Quentin, I realize that nobody wants to have to buy an additional product to make painting possible. Tamiya has a product called Paint Retarder (Acrylic). It come in a glass bottle the same as their Extra Thin Cement. The cap is turquoise in colour. It is an additive which slows down the drying time. It allows the paint to self level. Tamiya acrylics are great when airbrushing, but somewhat problematic when brush painted. Decant a small amount of paint to a separate container, and then ad a drop or two of the paint retarder. Hopefully this will help. Thinking of Snake's response, acrylic paint retarder could help with most craft acrylic paints. It may not even be necessary to buy Tamiya's product. Many art supply brands have their own acrylic paint retarder.

would this be tamiya camel yellow
Bill Eh? replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
TS-16, Yellow, is the closest to Lemon Yellow. TS-34, Camel Yellow, is much more of an orange-yellow. The Renault colour that you are looking for is definitely yellow, as opposed to orange-yellow. -

Splash Paints LLC Order
Bill Eh? replied to Bill Eh?'s topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Samuel, that is great information concerning how to achieve a semi-gloss finish. I had been thinking about that very issue! LOL -
I placed an order with Splash Paints LLC last Friday, March 23. It just arrived today. The order was contained in two USPS Priority Mail boxes attached together. The contents were protected inside with foam peanuts. Besides being extremely fast, the cost was more than reasonable at just over $15. All of the colors I purchased are flat, base-coat in nature. They come in 1 fl.oz. plastic bottles with metal ball agitator. They should be clear coated. They are airbrush ready and just require shaking the bottle before use. Here are is a list of the products that I purchased: Viking Blue SP-031 Green H*ll Magno SP-029 Racing Yellow SP-006 Rubystone Red SP-016 Grigio Titans SP-027 Solarbeam Yellow SP-026 Miami Blue SP-024 Ultra Violet Purple SP-021 Giallo Triplo Strato SP-022 Arancio Atlas SP-003 I also purchased Gloss Clear (2 fl.oz.) and Flat Clear (2 fl.oz.) The Gloss Clear comes with Activator (0.5 fl.oz.) and thinner (0.5 fl.oz.) Ratio 4:1:1 The Flat Clear comes with Activator (0.5 fl.oz.) Ratio 5:1 On top of all of this, a dozen pipettes were included free of charge! At this point, I am a very satisfied customer with the service that I received on this order.

Most Used Paint Color?
Bill Eh? replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Easily Tamiya Semi Gloss Black, both X-18 and TS-29. -
Scott, this looks great so far. The Mr. Metal Color Aluminum looks a lot less grainy than the Tamiya acrylic aluminum.

Andre, Wheels & Wings has the first few in this new Tamiya line of bottled lacquers. They will be adding to the range as it expands.

Agree, completely awesome!

Looking for tips on adding detail to a black interiors?
Bill Eh? replied to slusher's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Carl, I paint with acrylics for the most part. I have a variety of different black paints, which differ somewhat in tone but mostly in sheen/lustre. Many of my paints are Tamiya brand. I use their Gloss, Semi-gloss, Flat, Nato Black, Tire Black along with a few others. By using a variety, it seems to break up what be an entire semi-gloss black interior. It is more painting, as long as you don't mind that. LOL -
Quentin, curious as to which Tamiya NSX kit you are starting. There are many NSX kits from Tamiya. They are all great by the way!

Dann, thanks for your your recommendation and the confirmation of their durability. I bought a tube of Old Bronze at my lhs. They are a little expensive at $18 a tube after tax. It will be interesting to compare with Vallejo's Real Metal Color acrylic line.

Stock up on Humbrol Paints now!
Bill Eh? replied to Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Joe and Christian for the info. -
Dann, I recall seeing some sheets of mesh at a lhs that specialized in Gundam style kits. I believe that the mesh was made by the Japanese company Wave. This was a couple of years ago. Not sure if they have different opening configurations. I would suggest doing a search on either Hobby Link Japan or Hobby Search, looking at the Wave product line. I hope this helps a little.

Thanks Cameron for that information. Definitely correct in that pigment scale can have an impact. I have a few tubes of Winsor and Newton colours. I think I will buy some matched colours made by Abteilung to see if there is any discernible difference in pigment or consistency.

Cameron, I have looked at those Abteilung oil paints at a my LHS. They are far more expensive that getting a name brand oil paint such as Winsor and Newton. Even an art supply retailer might have their own house line of oil paints. Why did you opt for these? I am also curious as to the ease of use of those AK True Metals.

I have just had a great trading experience with Terry Schmalriede (Renegade). He was a great trader to deal with and provided me with a list of trading material that he would happy with. Excellent packing guaranteed the safe arrival of the contents from Texas! I would gladly trade with Terry again. Thank you very much!
