Dude! That is a pretty sweet looking "Monzamino"! Came out really nice! You stayed pretty true to both of the original cars looks and stance wise, good job!
-
Thanks! That is exactly the idea!........removing the chrome from a small area for gluing....instead of scraping it which can be very tedious on very small contact points.
-
Arrrgggghhhhh! A Chrome tree with so much Flash that you almost have to remove the chrome, clean up the flash and re-chrome the parts, not to mention attachments at the worst places (so true Mr. Lombardo!). OR...the company puts sooo many chrome parts on one tree that you end up accidentally cutting into one part to remove another!
-
No scrubbing with the Soft Scrub, just a bit of rubbing. Chrome comes off literally in seconds. You can really pinpoint what you want to remove as well! Why wait a day and a half.
-
cheap way to get them dimples....... drive through a heavy hail storm (then replace the windshields) sorta worth it? I dunno..........

Well since joining the forum I have seen many tips on how to remove chrome from parts....the best being bleach...but I only want to remove enough so that the glue will hold....hmmmm.....bleach....small and specific areas.......... "SOFT SCRUB with BLEACH" and a q-tip, toothpick or other small applicator that you can rub the chrome off with. Rinse well with water! WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!! Especially on parts like tie rod ends, strut support ends etc. Won't harm the plastic! I guess i just got soooo tired of scraping it off with a #11 blade that something had to give..

Your funny car looks TOTALLY WICKED!! -
Sweet Build on the LRW! It took a lot to just get that kit to OOB status but you went above and beyond! Kudos!
-
Well if ya start it and it's a Lindberg, get ready to trim LOTS of flash!! Lemme know if I can give ya any advice on this kit.
-
OK ALRIGHT ALREADY! (lowdowngoodfornothintoolazytogototheunderglassandlookforyourselves justtomakemepostitallhereagaingrumblegrumble!) Awwwwwww.......sorry can't race now....still designing my Deora wheelstander....maybe later? (cluck, cluck!) BTW, LOVE the Corvair!! Awesome! ...hey, there any modeling clubs around these parts, or are we it??
-
OMG!! That engine looks familiar!! Could it be inspired by Carl Casper's "Galloping Ghost" ? I would love to put that type of engine into a custom build ! BRAVO!!
-
A while back there was someone building the Mysterion and they posted something with pics about the front fiberglass headlight cowl area....ya know....putting it together, etc. Can't seem to find it anywhere on here....little help?????
-
Thanks Walt! Wow! Looks like those two have seen better days....would love to see them back up 2 snuff though!
-
THANKS! I am gonna keep that one in mind!
-
Al, make sure you don't run over the dog with that car!!
-
Thanks Raul! Funny you should mention the Deora, as I have plans to make mine into a wheelstander and shorten the body by about an inch. Kinda make it realy wild looking. I gotta find an injected or blown engine and some fat slicks to make it happen, but it will be very cool!

Well, that I understand, however, I bought a Lindberg Jolly Roger ship to build and the instructions are so dark (printing looks like it was photocopied 10 generations ago) I may not be able to build it. I contacted Lindberg for some readable instructions and they emailed me back the same ones. They said that was all they had, yet they still produce the kit.....my mind is made up.

I gotta agree with the other guys... the plastic should be fine if primered....the only thing that old plastic sometimes becomes is brittle with age, just like my bones
-
I was gonna post pics here too but that would be redundant. Did the other one get finished for the "Lions" build yet?
-
Awesome paint! And...I'm really digging the grill!
-
I gotta agree with the rest of the guys...that kit looks too cool! I love the paint job in blue, it works Very well!
-
SWEEET!! I Love that black paint job! Smooth! How didja get it so nice?..... and the Plates are a cool touch!
-
I guess all there is to say is that the only things not stock are the aluminum stacks and aluminum headers. I wasn't supposed to cut the quotation marks off the LRW decal but I thought it looked better without them. It's sort of a mix of the very first one and the one at the Garlits museum....it's a Lindberg with TONs of flash. I will never buy another one of their kits, they have lot's to do about quality control over there.

Future....prior to or after decaling?
charlzrocks replied to charlzrocks's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I will test on the decal numbers first...good idea! Future is great as a clear coat...I just brush it on (as it is self leveling) but only one layer and let dry for 24 hours, then re-coat if you like. Successive layers will tend to want to combine with the first and can look goopy if the first is not cured yet. Excellent for scratched window plastic! -
I used RTV silicone to make a duplicate engine block about 2 weeks ago. I looked at the mold and it has a light oily residue on it (sorta looks like melted butter) that wasn't there before. What is it? Is it normal? How do I clean it off? Should I be frightened? NEVERMIND! I Went to the Alumilite site and found this: "The Quick Set RTV contains a slightly higher percentage of silicone oil (natural lubricant) than some other silicones and occasionally will sweat the oil out if it is even slightly over catalyzed. If the molds sit for awhile and the next time you go to use them they are a little greasy, simply put some rubbing alcohol on your paper towel and this will help pick up the extra oil that has sweat out of the rubber from sitting around. Then baby powder, preheat your mold and cast as Carol mentioned and you should haved a perfectly good cast piece on your first part. "
