Thanks! Yes Future and food coloring...but there is more to it.....!!! Step 1: Clean the plastic with soap and water and dry well (to remove oily fingerprints, contaminants, etc) Step 2: Dip the windshield into clear Future with no coloring and let dry for at least a few hours. Step 3: Add food coloring to the Future to your desired color and depth. ** Food coloring will fade with time and light exposure, try RIT dye as well** Step 4: Dip the windshield into the colored Future (best to submerge it completely! Step 5: As the future gathers near the edges, slightly dab at the pools with a corner of a paper towel till it stops pooling. Set it on a paper towel to dry for a few hours. Step 6: Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you get the desired color depth. Step 7: To clear away portions of the colored areas, I used Q-tips dipped in clear Future till I removed what i needed. You might want to experiment with clear plastic spoons until you feel you have the hang of it before you try to tint the windshield. I have NOT tried this process with an airbrush! Good Luck!

Both Starbirds eh? Cool...Star Ship and Cosma Ray......sound like his type of creations, Thanks!! -
I wish I could see a pic of that kit!! Sounds right up my alley!

again, Thanks! Why they couldn't make the frame a one or two piece affair is beyond my reasoning. I am thinking of doing a tutorial on tinting the windscreens soon. I think that it is worth taking the time to do.

Here is a car that I would love to know more about. It's not the "Predicta" in the photo, but the one circled in red in the background. I found this other one on the bay, said it might be a IMC Mako vette? It doesn't look like the first one except for the canopies.... any ideas on either of these cars guys?

I've been to Puerto Rico seven times......loved the place, especially out in Ariceibo, Moca, Aguadilla, Ponce and away from the touristy places. Used to have a clergy friend that went there every year for his birthday..... -
Beautiful job, nice paint! But you got that other guy parked in, he'll never get out the drivers side door!
-
Any specific parts stores you can think of? We got most of em down here,,,,,,,,,,, I love the candy blue paint job he did on this one........looks flawless!
-
Awww shucks! Y'all are too kind!

Nice Job!! I am digging the tach bubble and I love the Candy Blue!! Where do they sell Duplicolor paint? Is it a rattlecan? I live out in the middle of nowhere, tried Testors and it sucked!

Thanks but I already built mine. Check out my Fotki site! These are the bubble tops I have done: Silhouette and trailer, Beatnik Bandit, Road Agent, Mysterion These are the bubble tops left to do: Beatnik Bandit II, Predicta, Cherry Bomb (technically not a bubble top, but a clear canopy nonetheless) These are the others that I can't afford due to the scarcity of the kits: MPC Magnum GT II, Monogram Orange Hauler. Know of any others??
-
Very Sweet looking Willys, love the look of the total package, Great Job!! I gotta try one o them kits....and some o that de-blinging one day.....was gonna try Alclad but don't have the patience for all that...guess it's gotta be.

I have finished the Mysterion....whew...what a complex kit for an out of the box build! I would have to say the most difficult part was tinting the canopy (part is clear, part is aquagreen). It seems that the Roth models always have a chassis that is a multipart affair. This was no different, but I am pleased with the completed car. Now I have one more bubble top of his left. Beatnik Bandit II. Then I have the Predicta and the Cherry Bomb......that covers the bubble tops that I am aware of.

one word Beautiful ! -
You might be correct about the spraying ..........I always just brush mine on!

as far as Future is concerned...you cannot add successive coats as it dissolves the previous coat when coated over with itself. I know this because I tinted a windshield with Future and food dye. I had to clear out a small area of the screen and just used a q tip dipped in future to take off the old coat. Although one coat should be sufficient for your surface and I don't think you need to thin it with anything, it will fill the scratches, but I am not sure on the clouding.

Well, here is my take on it.....get a fine tip acrylic white paint pen from your LHS or craft store, use a "magic bigifier" while doing this...... Apply the paint as best you can ...then to get off the overflow, I use the tip of a toothpick right against the side of the raised edge that has been painted. OR.... you can apply the white acrylic paint to the side of the tip of a toothpick and roll the edge of the toothpick along the top of the raised area of the whitewall line. Again this is with using a magnifying glass and some patience. USE ONLY ACRYLIC PAINT,DO NOT USE ENAMEL AS IT WILL NOT DRY!! I prefer not to use a template....but that is just personal preference. There are many techniques to apply whitewall and tire lettering.....if one don't work for ya try another till you get one you prefer and let us know how it goes!
