  1. An exceptional build of an obscure vehicle. I guess the person who ordered the car your model depicts only had enough extra cash for the full wheel covers and white walls !!??
  2. Hey Andy and David - I will be taking model photos at Deuce Days in Scale but for now have posted a bunch of photos on fotki of the great cars seen around Victoria the last few days https://public.fotki.com/phildaupho/2019-deuce-days-ful/
  3. Great looking Deuce. Too bad you are not here in Victoria for Deuce Days and Deuce Days in Scale. Of the 15 varieties of 32 Fords the B400 is one of three I have not seen the last few days along with a Woody and a Panel.
  4. I love the lines of your chop
  5. Nice conversions on both which I like very much
  6. Thanks Tony Thanks Art - Sort of like your model car show at the LA Roadster Show, more people will know about it the second time around so I am confident it is going to be well attended. Be that as it may, its going to be fun.
  7. All boxes checked. I give it an A+
  8. Thanks Mattias. Deuce days is only a few days away so looking forward displaying this model.
  9. The count down has started. A full ferry load of hot rods from SoCal north are scheduled to arrive on Thursday afternoon. One of the BC mainland entrants is going to park his almost completed Deuce Roadster pickup overnight in my carport. The weather for the weekend is forecast to be fabulous. Its going to be an awesome event. Wish you could be here.
  10. Thanks Steve Thanks Curt
  11. Always great to see a classic posted. I really like your color selection. A Duesy is still on my list of want to builds.
  12. What is so cool about the Hot Rod cover photo is that the photo used on the Beach Boys album cover came from the same photo shoot by Hot Rod magazine stall photographer Eric Rickman. Big Daddy Roth was at this shoot and offered his red jacket to add more color. Most of the custom work was done by the Alexander Brothers in Detroit. After Chili moved to LA, the chop and final paint job where done at Barris Kustoms. The blower was added around this time. It is fantastic that the car was reacquired and restored by the Catallo family. Like the lyrics in the song - They got the pink slip daddy.
  13. Thanks Geoff Thanks Bill Thanks David Thanks Carl Thanks Mark Thanks Oliver
  14. Very sharp Deuce. Interesting configuration.
  15. Thanks Peter Thanks David Thanks Larry It was a real challenge but very interesting learning about such an incredible car.
  16. This is a replica of the car that appeared on the cover of the Beach Boys Little Deuce Coupe record album. It was also known as Chili Cataloo’s Silver Sapphire BODY The resin body and custom nose came from Hendrix Mfg. Co. I had to make up lower side wings from sheet styrene, make a firewall and create the rear tube “grill” and taillights. Paint is Tamiya TS-19 Metallic Blue. Barris photoetched crest from Replicas & Miniatures INTERIOR Interior tub is from the Revell 3-W Coupe and was sectioned. Foot boxes were recessed between the frame rails. [2nd owner made this medications] Made up the square button stuff pattern by scribing and filing styrene sheet. Buttons are pinheads. Dash was modified for extra gauges. Steering wheel came from AMT 32 Victoria Shifter sourced from AMT 25 T CHASSIS Frame from Revell Deuce with floor, front horns and fuel tank removed. Z’d in back frame height FRONT SUSPENSION 37 Ford tub axle from AMT 25 T using spring in front of axle so shocks needed to be reversed and swapped side to side Steering used pieces front Revell 29/30 Ford, AMT 25 T and Replicas & Miniatures REAR SUSPENSION Rearend from Revell Deuce with input housing and back cap from the Revell Beatnik Bandit kit to make it look Oldsmobile Transverse leaf spring, shocks and radius rods added [Only photo of rear suspension I could find was of Danbury Mint Diecast !!] FRONT BRAKES Kinmont front brakes from Replicas & Miniatures REAR BRAKES AMT Ala Kart FRONT AND REAR WHEELS AND TIRES White wall front tires and chrome wheels from AMT Ala Kart. Slicks from Revell Tire Set DRIVETRAIN Oldsmobile engine from the Revell Beatnik Bandit kit 6-71 Blower assembly from Revell Willys Street Rod [Beatnik Bandit had a 4-71] Carburetors Revell 29 Ford Headers are aluminum tube TRANSMISSION La Salle transmission from Replicas & Miniatures This is my final Deuce build leading up to Deuce Days in Scale July 21 in Victoria BC. Over the past year and half or so I have completed 8 new Deuce builds, redone 3 previous models and did the initial body modifications on two other Deuces for other modellers to complete.
  17. I am getting ready for the final paint job which will be Tamiya TS-19 Metallic Blue. I have primered the body parts with Tamiya Fine White Primer. After masking off the roof insert I then applied coats of Tamiya Pure White. After that I masked off what will be the white scallops with Bare-Metal-Foil. When the blue paint dries and I scrape off the BMF I am hoping I have a body that looks like the Silver Sapphire.
  18. Thanks Alan. I have always was always impressed with Danbury's 1/24 diecasts. They had some great model masters and assemblers working for them. It appears they only have five 1/18 car models currently available. Thanks Steve. I am hoping to have finished by the end of the week
  19. This is an update to a project in a thread I started back in January but because I could not edit the title I figured I would start a new thread. Here is a link to the previous thread. I am trying to finish this build for Deuce Days in Scale July 21. Because time is of the essence, I will be using some time saving methods like Tamiya fast drying paint directly from the spray cans. The engine, chassis and running gear went together pretty smoothly but I discovered the interior would not go into the body as a complete unit. The dash and steering wheel will go in first followed by the door panels and finally the floor and seats.0 I learnt that the foot boxes were installed after the original owner sold the car but they sure must make the interior more comfortable. The piping in the interior is the best I could come up with and certainly looks very amateurish in this photo but without opening doors it looks OK as it would be viewed on a display table. With the interior and rolling chassis completed I can move onto the body. I have fabricated the side fins, which hopefully will work OK and I have to wait until they are in place to bend the aluminum tube for the headers. I am a little concerned about the final paint job because of the distinctive scallops. My plan is to first paint the body white and then mask the scallops with Bare-Metal-Foil. I will have my fingers crossed that I will get acceptable results.
  20. Deuce Days in Scale is only three weeks away. I have completed the two models that are on the official poster for the full scale event.
  21. Thanks for asking Dennis. I did not try to fully replicate the rear torsion bar suspension because most of it would not be visible.
  22. Thanks Oliver Thanks Chris
  23. Very well crafted version of a kit that can really be a basis for creativity
  24. Very well done. I saw a nice 48 resto-rod today so I am in the zone !!
