Revell Land Rover Series 3 109 inch
Phildaupho replied to GeeBee's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Right you are. The Land Rover had been restored to exactly how it looked during the trip and it is very cool. -
Thanks Chris Thanks Matthew. The 1/1 still exists as a hot rod but is now black with different wheels, engine and interior. It apparently does not get driven much because the seat is too high !!

Revell Land Rover Series 3 109 inch

This is great news . I have been wanting a Land Rover kit for a very long time. It probably is overly ambitious but I would like to attempt a replica of this particular Land Rover 2 Canadians, 14 months, 4 continents, and 60,000 km in a Land Rover in 1957 -
Thanks Lee Thanks Sam Thanks Oliver. I had some great photos to work from Thanks Scott. I have to saw like them chopped too. Thanks Larry Thanks Howard

This is a model I built over 10 years ago as a replica of a car a friend owned back in the early 1960’s. It recently had a fall so was returned to me for repairs. Fortunately it was not badly damaged and essentially just had to be put back together but it was interesting for me to be reacquainted with an old build. I started with the AMT 5-Window Street Rod kit. The roof was replaced with a 3-Window roof section from the Dirtrack Racecars AMT ‘34 Ford Slammer. Although it said on the box that it was chopped, you obviously cannot believe everything you read. Installing the roof of course required re-scribing the trailing edges of the doors. The hinges were chiselled off the five-window body and not installed until after painting. The roof insert is painted masking tape. Some of the features of the real car that I replicated are - The engine was an Oldsmobile with a J2 intake manifold. The model’s engine uses the block from the ’34 Street Rod kit with heads, intake manifold, carbs and exhaust system from the AMT ’49 Ford’s option Cadillac engine because I thought they looked better than the Olds in the AMT ’40 Ford Sedan although I did use front assembly from that kit. Replicas & Miniatures supplied the flame arrestors. The firewall was recessed. - The rear end is from the ’49 Ford complete with parallel leaf springs and traction bars. The front end is the stock ’34 beam axle but has tubular shocks - The wheels are also from the ’49 Ford. The from baby-moons were cut from the AMT ’49 Mercury chrome reversed wheels while the flatter style rear hubcaps were cut from the AMT ’51 Chev Fleetline custom wheels. The rear tires are cheater slicks from a Polar Lights ’64 Pontiac GTO with acrylic narrow white walls. - The main part of the interior is from the ’34 Street Rod but has ’61 Thunderbird bucket seats and steering wheel. The dash is from the Revell ’32 Ford Coupe with a Model Car Garage gauge insert. - The paint is decanted and airbrushed Testor’s Candy-Apple Red enamel over Tamiya Pearl White. When the real car was first painted, the headlight buckets were inadvertently left pearl white. At the Portland Roadster Show the car actually won a trophy in the two-tone class! The car was later painted Pearlescent Burgundy.

Really nice Deuce Dennis. -
Excellent build of a very interesting car.

Very well done conversion. The 49/50/51 Ford Woodies are one of my favourite body styles of all time. I fabed one up over 25 years ago which was no where as nice as yours.

AMT/Lindberg '34 pick up Question ?
Phildaupho replied to Greg Myers's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The 32 chassis is 6 inches shorter than the 34. The fenders are pretty darn close so if you are not trying for a totally accurate build you can get away with shortening the 34 frame and fenders. The bed is easy to modify to fit. You will of course have to use a 32 grill shell and hood. -
Fantastic build of a state of the art model car kit of a state of the art racing car.

This might be the nicest ever build of this classic kit Deuce. It is a real bit of model car history

Looking forward to your Under Glass photos and post

Thanks Hector. Sharing was part of the whole idea. Thanks Bob - The spectators at the model car show really enjoyed this display as it put what they were seeing at the outdoor car show into context Thanks Geoff. It was a fun and rewarding project.

I am privileged that Tom Gloy liked the model enough that he offered to buy it and is now driving home with the model boxed up in his tiny trunk

At the Deuce Days in Scale Model Car Show in Victoria BC Canada which took place the same day as the largest outdoor Deuce car show ever, local modellers had a display of all 15 varieties of Fords available in 1932. At the outdoor car show the only variety not present was a genuine Woody. The only criteria for the models was that they had to be full fendered and not chopped. The roadster was built by Gord Bradley when the kit was new without any paint. It may not have been dusted since. The Phaeton was built by Bart Barker in stock configuration. The 5W was the first Deuce model completed just before the show by Bob Bartrum. The 3W was built box stock by Don More. The Todor was built box stock by Mike Pearson. Russ Ferguson built the Fordor using a Star Models resin body. Dave Shepherd built the AMT Victoria and it has a Cadillac engine. The Sports Coupe was built by Gord Bradley based on a 5W and parts from a Monogram Model A Sports Coupe. Brian Kent used a Jimmy Flintstone resin body on AMT fenders and chassis to create this B400. Mark Rush cut the roof of a 5W to make a Cabriolet. Phil Dauphinee modified Lindberg/AMT 34 Ford Pickups to make these two Deuces. Oly Moilanen converted a Sedan into a Sedan Delivery. Gord Enquist started with a 37 Ford Panel to create this very accurate 32 Panel. Phil Dauphinee coverted a 31 Woody into a 1932 Station Wagon using real birch paneling.

The incredible, fabulous, amazing, awesome, over whelming Deuces Days in Victoria BC Canada is over. I am not sure of the final count but maybe half of the almost 1400 pre-1952 cars in town for the outdoor car shows were 32 Fords. I have also made posts in the contest section regarding the model car show and Under Glass on the model display of the 15 varieties of 32 Fords. This a link to two fotki albums of the full scale cars over four days and the Sunday show. https://public.fotki.com/phildaupho/2019-deuce-days-ful/ This shot was taken at 7AM before the tens of thousand spectators arrived

Deuce Days in Scale - July 21/19 - Victoria BC Canada
Phildaupho replied to Phildaupho's topic in Contests and Shows
The four fabulous days of Northwest Deuces are now over with the huge outdoor car show and Deuce Days in Scale taking place on Sunday. Both shows could not have been more successful. There were over 1300 pre-1952 cars with maybe half being Deuces under the sunshine and over 270 models inside in air conditioned comfort. I have made a post under general with a link to two albums of the full scale cars and will be posting Under Glass of the scale 15 varieties of 32 Fords. The model show had tables for Deuces, pre-1952 non Deuces, the 15 varieties display with model display boxes, large scale and other display models. These three models are of the same car - an outstanding Vancouver BC custom of the early 1960's and still exists today. The model on the left was recently completed by the original owner Cort Elliot. The two models to the right were built and cast in resin by Gerry Chevalier formerly of Mini-Exotics. The model on the far right is how the car currently looks still in very good condition. Resin model kits are available as a fundraiser for the current owner who has health issues. -

An exceptional build of an obscure vehicle. I guess the person who ordered the car your model depicts only had enough extra cash for the full wheel covers and white walls !!?? -
Deuce Days in Scale - July 21/19 - Victoria BC Canada
Phildaupho replied to Phildaupho's topic in Contests and Shows
Hey Andy and David - I will be taking model photos at Deuce Days in Scale but for now have posted a bunch of photos on fotki of the great cars seen around Victoria the last few days https://public.fotki.com/phildaupho/2019-deuce-days-ful/ -
Great looking Deuce. Too bad you are not here in Victoria for Deuce Days and Deuce Days in Scale. Of the 15 varieties of 32 Fords the B400 is one of three I have not seen the last few days along with a Woody and a Panel.
