INTERIOR – I removed the heater and radio detail from the dash, fabricated a big gas tank cover and made up the simple single brace roll bar. I also sanded off the carpet texture in the area behind the seats

I am building a model of the first Z06 Corvette. Chevrolet offered the first four Z06 Corvettes to prominent Corvette racers and sponsors. They were flown to St. Louis to pick up their cars. Dave MacDonald who had helped develop the Z06 got the first one built; for owner Don Steves Chevrolet. Dave and his wife drove the car back to California where it was race prepared for the October 12. 1962 Three Hour Endurance race at Riverside. BODY – I did most of the body modifications a number of years ago by grafting the distinctive 63 bits from the AMT kit onto the Revell 67 body. I also filled the reverse light housing and extended the bumper mounts to wrap around by trimming the dechromed bumpers. I opened up the grill area where I will mount a fabricated 6 bar grill. I am aware of the Harold Bradford Z06 Resin kit but I already had the body started before it became available. I do however have Harold’s Z06 resin engine to use with this project and compare to the AMT offering. CHASSIS – I had to narrow the chassis somewhat in the rear so I could use the wider Goodyear BlueStreak tires and deep-dish resin wheels. I also lowered the suspension a bit front and rear. I had to highly modify the kit inner wheels to mount to the suspension with the correct off-set but in the process was able to approximate the look of the special ventilated drum breaks used by the 63 Z06

Your detailing is absolutely outstanding. I hope you do not mind me mentioning but there is one distinctive feature of the R-Model you missed - the fabricated side window frames for the manually pull up plexiglass windows. A friend raced an R-Model so I have became very familiar with these cars.

I really like this T hot rod. I was not aware of the MPC 27 T kit. I have always wanted to build a 27 T Coupe and have a Jimmy Flintstone chopped Coupe but like the look of a stock height fendered Coupe.

Extremely well built and detailed. It was a great era of the Trans-Am series which appears to very strong again today. Too bad we will never get to build models of the cars currently racing in the series.

Thanks Chris Thanks Matthew. The 1/1 still exists as a hot rod but is now black with different wheels, engine and interior. It apparently does not get driven much because the seat is too high !!

This is great news . I have been wanting a Land Rover kit for a very long time. It probably is overly ambitious but I would like to attempt a replica of this particular Land Rover 2 Canadians, 14 months, 4 continents, and 60,000 km in a Land Rover in 1957 -

This is a model I built over 10 years ago as a replica of a car a friend owned back in the early 1960’s. It recently had a fall so was returned to me for repairs. Fortunately it was not badly damaged and essentially just had to be put back together but it was interesting for me to be reacquainted with an old build. I started with the AMT 5-Window Street Rod kit. The roof was replaced with a 3-Window roof section from the Dirtrack Racecars AMT ‘34 Ford Slammer. Although it said on the box that it was chopped, you obviously cannot believe everything you read. Installing the roof of course required re-scribing the trailing edges of the doors. The hinges were chiselled off the five-window body and not installed until after painting. The roof insert is painted masking tape. Some of the features of the real car that I replicated are - The engine was an Oldsmobile with a J2 intake manifold. The model’s engine uses the block from the ’34 Street Rod kit with heads, intake manifold, carbs and exhaust system from the AMT ’49 Ford’s option Cadillac engine because I thought they looked better than the Olds in the AMT ’40 Ford Sedan although I did use front assembly from that kit. Replicas & Miniatures supplied the flame arrestors. The firewall was recessed. - The rear end is from the ’49 Ford complete with parallel leaf springs and traction bars. The front end is the stock ’34 beam axle but has tubular shocks - The wheels are also from the ’49 Ford. The from baby-moons were cut from the AMT ’49 Mercury chrome reversed wheels while the flatter style rear hubcaps were cut from the AMT ’51 Chev Fleetline custom wheels. The rear tires are cheater slicks from a Polar Lights ’64 Pontiac GTO with acrylic narrow white walls. - The main part of the interior is from the ’34 Street Rod but has ’61 Thunderbird bucket seats and steering wheel. The dash is from the Revell ’32 Ford Coupe with a Model Car Garage gauge insert. - The paint is decanted and airbrushed Testor’s Candy-Apple Red enamel over Tamiya Pearl White. When the real car was first painted, the headlight buckets were inadvertently left pearl white. At the Portland Roadster Show the car actually won a trophy in the two-tone class! The car was later painted Pearlescent Burgundy.

Started getting ERROR 404 yesterday replying to Under Glass post. Both Microsoft laptops affected but not iPhone. Let's see if this post works. This obviously worked. Weird !! ?? Tried doing the Under Glass post again. The previous unsent reply was no longer there so things were longing good but got 404 ERROR again
