  1. It only took me 60 years to get around to building a model of the Beatnik Bandit. I venture to say there probably were not that many completed back in the day as the kit could be a challenge for a kid to build. There are some fiddley parts and getting the 5-piece decal applied to each fender is not exactly easy. I did not build my Bandit completely box-stock. I separated the floor pan from the fenders so the later could be molded to the body. A more realistic gauge was installed in the “dash”. The gold Bare-Metal-Foil was applied the circumference of the interior which is not correct but was the best solution I could come up with. I also added the transmission control lever which is not indicated in the instruction. A combination of kit and self-printed decals were used and I wrapped the decals over the perturbance above the headlights similar to the real Bandit. The paint is Tamiya Pearl White.
  2. Gorgeous and very well built model. I love the flat-top look and 4-door hardtops in general. Gene Winfield turned a flat-top cadillac into a 2-door which looked great. Also interesting how the flat-top style was used on the El Camino.
  3. Thanks Helmut. I did not take any photos of the 2D during the conversion but here is a link to more photos CHAPARRAL 2D album | Phildaupho | Fotki.com, photo and video sharing made easy.
  4. Thanks Charles - here is the link Thanks Chris
  5. Extremely well built. I recently read an article about the Henry J so really nice to see such a cool model car.
  6. Excellent job converting to a two door. I guess a Challenger essentially is a two door 300/Charger.
  7. Great looking A-Coupe especially the paint scheme and the big headlights
  8. Very impressive model of a very impressive racing car.
  9. Turned out fantastic Steve especially the interior and engine. It sure would be a blast to drive a full size version.
  10. It is Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend so thanks a lot guys.
  11. It is now over twenty years ago that Ferrari raced at the 2001 Italian Grand Prix at Monza with black noses and no livery to honour the victims of the 911 attacks only five days before. It was a strikingly memorable tribute at a very subdued Grand Prix. Ferraris did fairly well in the race that day finishing second and fourth while Juan Pablo Montoya took his first victory in a Williams-BMW from pole position. Earlier that same year I witnessed those same Ferraris race in full livery at the Canadian Grand Prix – a race also won by a Williams-BMW driven by Ralf Schumacher who finished third at Monza. Ten years after the 2001 F1 season, I attended 2011 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Sometime in the intervening years I acquired the Tamiya kit of the Ferrari F2001 always with the intention of building it as the black nose version. Now twenty years after it raced, I figured it was time to get it done. Because my primary objective was to represent the simplicity of the black nose and no livery, I decided to build it straight from the box with next to no extra detailing. Monza is a high-speed circuit so F-1 cars always race there in low drag configuration. As such the F-2001 did not use the center rear wing so it was left off and the upper wing had two elements which I simulated by scribing. Up front the two inner elements on the end plates were removed. The most involved and time-consuming aspect of this build was the painting. Almost all the red body parts had to be painted satin black on the undersides so a lot of masking was required. Tamiya spray can was used exclusively including Tamiya Pink Primer under the Bright Red. I have read that Ferrari uses pink primer on their red cars. While the white areas of the wings could have been done with decals, I decided to paint them. I have not built a Tamiya kit in awhile and even though this one is twenty years old it is an absolutely top-notch model kit and was a very enjoyable build. 12. Just arrived in Victoria BC Canada - October 6
  13. Hey Bill - You should plan a trip to Victoria next summer with your models for Deuce Days and Deuce Days in Scale - July 17 and the preceding three days.
  14. Very attractive especially the well done chop and peaked hood.
  15. I always enjoy seeing Duesenberg models and yours is one of the nicest I have seen. I think my dad and I built one of these crudely about 60 years ago. I have a couple of Monogram Duesys in my stash that I may never get around to building but will never get rid of.
  16. Incredible model and fantastic photos. It may be the most realistic model car I have ever seen.
  17. Great looking model. Bring back memories. My uncle had a new 56 Meteor although not top of the line like this one. I rode in the back seat with my cousins many time.
  18. Kustom d'Elegance
  19. Great looking Slant-Back. The Smoothster chassis and powertrain are sure a nice fit.
  20. Hi Steve - You asked for them so here are my two 300's built shortly after the kit came out. On the grey one I added front chin and trunk edge spoilers, a mesh backing to the grill, tube exhaust tips and some photo-etched emblems. On the green one for fun I added front and rear body parts from the '57 300.
  21. Great project. I always thought that kit had a lot of potential and built a couple myself.
  22. Good looking Hi-Boy. I really like the wheel/tire combo and SBC.
  23. Very attractive Lo-Boy. I hope you will be able to make it to Victoria next summer for Deuce Days and the model car show.
  24. Big Daddy would definitely approve. Far out man.
  25. Absolutely gorgeous !!
