Hey, guys, I just finished this Revell 56 Ford F-100 pickup kit. I found it on ebay for $13.00 shipped! It's built completely stock. I plan to use it in a diorama later. I remember building the original version of this kit in the 1960's and it was difficult. It hasn't changed. There were some fit issues with the doors and hood. Some of it was my fault. The right inner fender shifted downward while glue was drying, so I had to relocate the door hinge to make it fit. It all worked out, and I'm pleased with the results. Paint is Krylon with some clear over it. I still have to add some chains on the tailgate, and I might add a visor over the windshield to hide the glue smear I made - oops! Comments welcome. I know it's not perfect, but I like it! Sam

Great build, Chuck! If it was real, I would want it in my driveway! That would be a blast to drive with a 6 speed! That kit might be a good candidate for an El Camino type pickup conversion too. Your next project perhaps? Sam

Wow! That is nice! Great flame painting job! One question: to my 61 yr. old eyes it looks like the top of the front coils/shocks are not attached to anything. Are there pins that stick out behind the grille shell that I can't see? Excellent work! Sam

Thanks, all, for the compliments on the color scheme. My original plan was to paint it a bright yellow. In fact, I sprayed it yellow, but it looked like a giant lemon! So I painted the body black, but then it looked like a bumblebee! Finally I picked the orange for the fenders, and I liked it. If you turn the car over, you would see the chassis and engine still in bright yellow. I figured no one would see it, so I didn't repaint it. Yeah, I'm old and lazy sometimes! Sam

Hey, guys, I found this Revell 39 Chevy coupe on eBay for about $5.00. It was in worse shape than I expected, and I wasn't sure what to do with it until I saw a 39 Chevy panel truck kit minus its body and fenders on eBay cheap. I built the panel truck chassis and engine, and dropped the coupe body on it. I used the truck's hood and wheels with tires from the coupe. I replaced the ugly seats with a bench seat from my parts box, and made a cover with stereo speakers (some old headlight buckets and upside down wheels) behind the seat. Paint is Testors Fiery Orange and Gloss Black from spray cans. It's not the best model, but it was a cheap, quick, and fun build! I like saving old junkers. I would buy a few of them. I'm using G scale model train figures on my dioramas, and they're not very good. I had a couple of the original Ulrich Mini-men figures in the 1960's. I posed one to be the driver in a 1/25 scale go-kart that came with some pickup truck model, and another to ride a motorcycle model. They looked pretty good back then. Sam

I made a minor addition to this model. I added rear side windows to the uptop. I used clear plastic from packaging (I don't remember what it came with), and cut the windows from an area of the plastic where it makes a sharp 90* bend. This leaves a "lip" of about .020" on the front edge of the window that nicely simulates the chrome window frame. A little silver paint around the edges, glue it in, and it's done! Here's a pic.

I like to compliment the good and ignore the bad features of anyone's model. For example, If I see a nicely painted and detailed custom with a set of those ridiculous giant wheels on it, I don't say "those wheels ruin the model". I would say something like "great paint and detail work". Compliments encourage the builders to build more and better models. It's pretty simple. Sam
