OK, here's the finished trailer with the Merc on my Dad's Garage diorama. Trailer is scratch built from styrene sheets and channel for the spars. 34 Ford fenders with parts box wheels, lights, etc. The round window frames are slices of a cap from an insulin pen. Easy and fun build! It will go on a campground diorama (when I get to it!). I just noticed - the teardrop door handle isn't on these pics. I added it later, plus license plates. Sam

This model was going to be a sedan delivery, but I changed my mind. It's a resin body with an old AMT 49 Merc chassis and interior. Lots of parts box stuff was used. Lowered suspension with poseable front wheels. Paint is R/C car paint and wet look clear. The wood framing was hand painted with acrylic tan paint. The dark wood panels are paper, printed from online and glued in place. Taillights are 59 Chevy lenses. It's curbside - no engine. The hood doesn't fit well. I gave up trying to make it fit! It's far from perfect, but I like the overall look. I hope you guys like it too! My next project is a teardrop trailer to go with it.

I put the window panels back in but covered them with woodgrain for something different. Shot some wet look clear on the wood areas. It darkened the panels nicely! I'll soon be done! Sam

Tom, when I sprayed the second coat of orange, the paint wrinkled on the side window panels, so I knocked them out, sanded them down and re-primed them. I'll put them back in after I paint them.

Scott, you might consider thin (1/64") plywood, cut into scale size 4'x8' sheets (~2x4") for exterior sheeting. Then paint it. It will look like painted plywood sheeting because.....it is! The 1/64" ply cuts easily with scissors or an old-fashioned paper cutter. 1/32" ply would work, too. Sam

I started building model cars when I was 9 yrs. old in 1958 when AMT came out with their customizing kits, and I remember having a few model planes before that. I got hooked on the car models and built about 250 of them through my teen and college years. Got married and got into R/C planes in 1971, and gave away most of the model cars to a nephew and some local kids. I didn't build a model car for over 30 years after that. Then in 2003, I picked up a Revell 32 Ford three-window coupe model on a whim and built it. I discovered how much better the new kits were, and began building again. I'm still at it at 67 years old!
