DESERT SCALE CLASSIC 2015 - NEW LOCATION & DATE
Art Laski replied to Danno's topic in Contests and Shows
I’m going to be a vendor at the DSC this year selling Pro Tech aftermarket parts and some other accessories and am issuing a special challenge. I’m calling it the Laski Scale Specialties Kart Challenge and here’s the deal: Anyone who purchases an item from me during the event will be eligible to race me in a kart race following the show. (I plan to run two) Any qualifying racer who beats me by logging a faster time in the same race I am in will receive a Pro Tech product of equal or lesser value than what they purchased. If the winner purchased more than one product, the amount of the offer will apply to the item of higher value. Qualifying purchases must take place prior to the kart race. If you send your kid to buy something because he’s lighter and faster, that’s OK too! Any takers? Also, if you are looking to buy any particular Pro Tech item and would like me to bring it, let me know in advance so I can make sure I have it in inventory for you. You can check Charlie’s web site for available model car products at http://www.ProtechModelParts.com . I don’t necessarily have everything in stock, so be sure to let me know if you need something. See you there! Art Laski Laski Scale Specialties Pro Tech Show Dealer -

Fantastic stuff, Randy! Your updates never fail to impress. -
Thanks for the inspiration, fellas, but I'm going to have to take a break on this one for just a little bit while I ready some projects for GSL. It became clear to me that this one isn't going to make it. But keep it on the brain- I'll get back to it as soon as possible!

Great updates, Tim. I'm at a loss for words. The shocks are just gorgeous -
Thanks, Danno! Tim- yeah, I needed a good "foundation"! Haha... Brad- you're right, it is pretty heavy. That tail is solid metal, and with the brass chassis, metal hood and tail, this baby is going to be stout. Chris, thanks so much for looking in. Your comments already inspired me on a solution to the birdcages. Funny how that works... Here are a couple more photos of the hood I forgot to add.
-
It turned out great, Jim!
-
I also started to modify the hood a little. I have big mods planned for the area that covers the engine, but the nose needed a little reshaping first to match the shape of the real car. I added some styrene to help guide the shaping process. More to follow... thanks for looking!
-
Made mounts on the chassis with some studs. Looks like a simple addition, but man, for some reason getting those deals lined up just right was quite an ordeal. Probably two or three times for each spud having to make sure Primed the tail with self-etching primer and drilled it for the mounts.
-
Stripped the paint off... Added some styrene to the underside to replicate the real tank a little better. Also filled in the screw hole with plastic...

I've got a bit of a block on how to accomplish building the birdcages for the rear suspension. I have both Dirt Modeler pieces they offer, but they're a little different than what I need where the pickup points are. So until I figure out how I'm going to handle that, I thought I would try something else. I reshaped the tail a little, as the diecast piece has some material in the front that a real tail doesn't have and it prevents it from mounting up against the cage as it should. So I ground it down with a bench grinder and filled it in with filler.

Thank you, Joe! Glad you found me...

Brad, I don' know what rock I've been under for the last year and a half, but this is the first time I'm seeing this! It's been my loss, because this WIP is awesome. Incredible scratch-building, as always. These types of subjects are definitely in your wheelhouse! Will we get to see the WIP at the DSC? -Art
