I should have added, while the JD paints are great paints they are expensive. I think the last can I bought was around $14.00. I only buy the vintage green as that's about the only place to get it. The after markets are all the new green.

"Blueprint Replica" was just a trademark Ertl used in the late 70's through the 90's. It was used on just about all their toys like the trucks, farm toys and the kits. Most of these kit sell for in the $10.00 to 15.00 range but that one could go for $20.00-25.00. The Smokey and the Bandit look is always good..

1925 Model T Ford pick up truck bed info.
AzTom replied to misterNNL's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That sounds like an interesting build. It looks like there are some ribs in the front panel. This link shows about a hundred photos of a 26 Roadster pickup. http://www.leftcoastclassics.com/1926-model-t-pickup/extras/bodygallery/slides/1926-ford-model-t-pickup-8298.html -
The paints at tractor Supply are nowhere near the quality as the JD paint from the dealers. I was using Dupli-Color but picked up a can of Valspar Satin Black at Lowe's a few months ago and like it. It says with primer and Micromist spray. It does spray very fine, drys quick and looks smooth. I had also tried the Satin Black Latex Enamel in a pint can for airbrushing. I only used it a few times but it turned out nice as well.

Thanks Manny. I should have something else up this weekend.

Greg, I would love to have that Flathead made. Yes I do have all the Liberty engines in 1/6 scale and 1/18 scale. The 1/6 photos are the one i think I lost. I can re-shoot those. I also have a bunch of farm engines that I didn't even think of when I started this thread. John Deere Model E engine in 1/6 scale. This one has the handle on backwards. It was corrected on the next run.

Thanks Robert.

Testors bottle paint issues
AzTom replied to Travis T's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The hardener I have came from Tractor Supply Co about 15 years ago. It comes in a pint size can that I opened and poured some in a glass bottle so I didn't have to keep opening the can. Two drops with an eye dropper is about all you need for enough to paint a car body. Once you add the hardener you have to use the paint or pitch it. -
Ray, I'll have to look around. I have a few 1/64 customs from Ertl trucks handy.

Thanks David. Not like these. These are from the 50's but most can be found for a few dollars at most flea markets and yard sales.

Nice, Greenlight makes some nice diecast.

For the most part only when the originals were painted that way. When I do paint the details, I cut out a cardboard mask and spray the silver using it. That way you get the correct amount of over spray around the edges of the bumpers and grills. If you have seen nice original Tootsietoys you know what I'm talking about. That said I, I will do some custom cars once in a while. ,

Okay, finished up a few more of them. Here is the Midgetoy Wrecker done. This one is only 3 in long. This is the Jaguar made by Irwin It's 6 in long and painted with MM rattle can Acapulco blue. I would like to find some Pepsi decals for the beverage truck.

Thanks for all the compliments. I added a Renwall 1/4 engine to the 1/4 scale post. This brings up a question. Should I keep adding engines to the existing post of that scale or add the to the end of the thread?

What to do when masking tape peels off paint?
AzTom replied to Helper Monkey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ditto: A low tack tape may help. Me, I would use Dupli-Color primer or other solvent based. I have never had luck getting acrylics to stick real good to plastic. -
Testors bottle paint issues
AzTom replied to Travis T's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I can't remember when I thinned the last Testors square bottle. For the MM enamels I have been using Xylol Medium Strength Solvent to thin them for about ten years now. It has a slower evaporation rate than lacquer thinner. I have never had an issue of it not mixing. To add to Evil72gto's post. I use a drop of hardener in my enamels so what you don't use has to be pitched. Growing up around paint, we had a practice of not putting thinned paint back in with the original can of paint. Never thought about why but my dad must of had a reason. -
Thanks. glad you like the engines. Lance, the 1/18 engines do not have fan belts. I wrapped a thick black thread around them with dab of superglue on the bottom pulley to hold it. Space is an issue for me until I get my man cave set up. I plan on getting all the engines in one display. This weekend I'll do a photo shoot of some more engines.

Thanks guys. Greg you have me on the hunt for one of those Ford 4 bangers. Scott, I also have been fascinated by the early plane engines. I have a small kit of one here some place. I added 2 flathead 1/6 engines and 3 1/4 Hemi engines.

Has anyone used the Testors/Aztec paints?
AzTom replied to Monty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I sprayed mine over a light coat of self etching primer on the diecast corvette. The spoon was primed with Dupli-color white primer. I taped one side off so if you look close one side clear coated the other is not. I used cheap Krylon acrylic clear about two hours after spraying the color. I will be getting more of this paint. Glenn, Thanks for the tip on touch up. Your paint jobs look awesome. -
This is actually a display of the John Deere Triple Link Suspension system but has a nice engine so it counts to me. It was made for JD dealers to demonstrate the front axle and is made of diecast on a wood base in 1/16 scale.

If you are asking about the one in the Falcon, it is 1/18, like the third photo from the top. The photo above that one is the same engine on a stand. Thanks for sharing the link and the Model A engine. I had not seen that version before and having had a few 1:1 A's & T's I would sure like to find one. Thanks Mike, Looking at that again makes me want to dig my stash out and get started.
