  1. Thanks all. Dave and Mike thanks for chiming in with your thoughts/observations. I can lose perspective working on something and need another pair of eyes. Granted this ones built but there are more to work on! G PS Jim, How about lunch at Carnegie's Deli right there in the Mirage? Or dinner, or breakfast or.....???? LoL
  2. This is way too cool. 5th E is one of my faves. G
  3. Hmmm, how'd you like to be the one that tossed the butt right now? Sad. Danno we had a saying it was either careless smoking by a pidgeon, or mice playing with matches. Sometimes it's friction, two insurance policies rubbing together. G
  4. About an hour after posting here, a nut walked into a casino saying he had a bomb. After responding to that, we took a trip over to Jean Nevada and made two arrests. 12 hour day right there. Serves me right G
  5. An arson investigation is one of the most difficult to bring home. You essentially have two sides to the case. One is proving the origin and cause of the fire, the other is proving who set the fire. The first can sometimes take a while. Without getting into specifics, first imagine walking into a structure completely destroyed by fire. Look around and tell me what you see. Show me how the fire progressed, where it started, and how. I was very fortunate in that some of the best fire investigators I have ever known were my mentors. On my first scene I was asked, "What do you see?" I responded with "A bunch of burned up stuff". My partner/mentor said "With an answer like that, I know I can make an arson investigator out of you." An additional hurdle sometimes is the DA's office. Fire science isn't taught in law school. When the DA says "What does all this mean? How do I make a jury understand it?" my response was always "Put me on the stand, if I can figure it out anybody can." I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the squad, and if I hadn't screwed up and got promoted I'd still be there. G
  6. Brian, sorry for the late reply, thank you. After building this I began "what iffing" it to death. I liked how the top came out but to me the body now required sectioning. I look at the side shot and think it's all out of proportion based on the classic 1/3 to 2/3's ratio. Pray tell, what would you have done? G
  7. Thanks guys, this was a brief glimmer of brilliance in what is normally a dull existence. I saw photos of USMC vehicles from that time period, and felt this kit would work. I think it really did. G
  8. Thanks all. After building it, I went back and realized the truck on the album had the wire wheels/wider tires from about '34 or so. I liked what I had done and said fhugettaboutit. G
  9. Now I know I retired way too soon............ G
  10. Ditto the wake up time, ditto the coffee, ditto the computer. Only problem for me is, I'm at work! What's the treatment for that??? G
  11. Oh heck yeah it is! I'd be looking hard if I were an Arson investigator in Phoenix right now. I did two years in the Bomb and Arson section in St Louis, '92-'94. Per the protocals we had then, these two fires would have been an "all hands" investigation. ATF would surely have been called, and the district coppers would all be on the alert. G
  12. That's referred to as a "clue" detective This is so sad, I'm thankful no one was injured or killed. This goes way beyond the loss of just the autos themselves. Then maybe we think this is just a random act of a fire starter? God forgive me for the thoughts I'm having at this moment. G
  13. My daily driver: The "other woman": Long long ago, in a galaxy far far away, this was my work car. G
  14. Yes they are. It reminds me of the time my neighbor got to dorking around and tossed his Ducati 916 down the street. I just went inside. G
  15. Go in peace my brother. Wayne Gray Sergeant of Police-Retired St Louis Metropolitan Police Department AKA "G"
  16. So was my reply! We need a tounge in cheek smiley. :') G
  17. Ditto, good people there. G
  18. Ferrari is a name however,"ferrare" roughly translates as "horsepower". Pronunciation wise they are nearly identical. Thus Enzo's use of a cavallo, or horse. So sayeth my universal translator, i.e. my 23 year old son. The big dummy paid attention in that Jesuit school. On topic, how in the heck do you design a high end car such as this with flammable heat shields?? G
  19. I got so excited about this I ran out and grabbed a bunch. I got in trouble for leaving the clothes piled up in the aisle though.............................. G
  20. Good stuff. Ditto on the rollback! G
  21. When I informed Mrs G this was a model, all she said, in her thick Chicago accent, was "Get the &&&& out of here." That says it all. G
  22. Freakin' IT Nazis clamped down on the old work computer system. Seems Photobucket is a banned site now. With the 'bucket banned and Fotki down I didn't have a way to screw off in the office. I actually had to write a report, and send the darn thing to the DA! Sheeeesh, I'm supposed to be semi-retired. G
  23. Pre WWII all the branches of the military used civilian pick ups, and cars. This is my take on what would be a very early war stateside USMC truck. Engine wiring, dents and the correct color for that "period look". G
  24. I had the kit for years and finally manned up and began cutting. Dropped the top three scale inches, smoothed everything, and molded the fenders to the bed. Used the kit hemi and fabbed exhaust pipes from aluminum tube. I found the paint on sale at Kmart, in the sporting goods section no less. Green to purple was a good look for this one even if I do say so myself. Not a lot of detail but I was just happy to pull off my first chop. G
  25. Here's one I did years ago. Revells '29 Ford, scratch built surf board, board rack, bulb horn, and blanket. Doors are slivers of a real hula skirt. It had a Hawaii plate on it that disappeared when I moved. G
