  1. Kevin, the things being unearthed lately, 70 years after the end of the war, are truly fantastic. That find seriously points to the savagery of that battle. Thank you Dan, I try my best! Peter, I know enough german to get in trouble, or my face slapped, whatever. It probably should be "nicht offnen" , but hey it's in the ball park right? G
  2. ^What he said^ G
  3. Kursk is still the largest tank battle ever. July and August of 1943 decided the war in the east for sure. If I recall correctly about 200,000 Germans and 250,000 Russians were killed in total. Total tank and assault gun losses, both sides, was over 7000. 7000 tanks, that boggles the mind. G
  4. Is your mailbox full? I tried to PM the story but no joy. G
  5. Correct, they were named the 5th SS Panzer Division after Kursk. Prior to that they were just called the 5th SS Division. I'm trying to integrate some historical accuracy here! G
  6. The oval is the seal of the "Deutsches Ahnenerbe", a branch of the SS founded to "research the archaeological and cultural history of the Aryan race". They started trekking the globe in 1935 looking for artifacts such as the Holy Grail, Ark of the Covenant and the Spear of Destiny. The circular symbol that resembles a roulette wheel is the "Schwarze Sonne". That is an occult symbol adopted by the SS. The symbol is inlaid on the floor of Wewelsberg Castle, the official HQ for all things SS. The circular swastica is the emblem of the SS "Wiking" division. These bad azzes were Nordic types inducted into the Waffen SS. No better bunch available to guard your new found loot. Thus endeth the history lesson... G
  7. The state of Nevada froze salaries from 7-1-08 until 7-1-14. They implemented furlough days during this time as well. I couldn't complain as I have a pension, which received it's regular COLA's (2-3%), and my wife was doing well as a casino director. When MrsG was forced into retirement our furloughs decreased. Still couldn't complain. Fast forward to 7-1-14 when everything went back to normal and furloughs went away. I was the first up for a raise and the new administration maxed me out. Talk about sticker shock! I was promoted 2 months later and they maxed me out again at the higher pay. I was flat told I was "taken care of" because I hung in during the lean years and didn't go looking. Little did they know! The other thing is that out here in Nevada folks just got accustomed to being paid well. I, on the other hand, didn't really make squat back in St Louis as a policeman and was quite used to making do. It's all relative I suppose. G
  8. 6 Not by me though........ G
  9. Thank you Jonathan. Moving along, I painted the cast resin stowage crates to resemble wood. I used several colors of acrylic over an enamel primer. I finished off with an enamel wask, then gloss coated with some MM Clear Gloss enamel. Then I Googled some images and printed my own decals. Now I have crates containing secrets. And the biggest secret...... G
  10. The original Bigfoot was so over the top that back in the day they drove it up and down Lindbergh Blvd late at night. Seems it was the best time to test modifications and such. County cops in north county always talked about it after a stretch on nightwatch. I saw it once while heading home from a party. I'm glad I knew of the legend...... BTW, Missouri Bigfoots are called Momo, as in Momo the Monster. There's a good story about Momo and a St Louis city policeman having an early morning encounter ....................... I was personally involved in the aftermath of that one.......... G
