  1. In the New York Times article cited above, there was one woman who was offended by the term "haboob" just because of its Arabic origin. I find that kind of thinking offensive. She expressed a concern that our returning military service personnel may become distressed and upset if they hear an Arabic word uttered in public. I'd like to think that the men and women who serve in our military are a bit tougher than that. In fact, it's quite possible that some of them brought the term back with them and helped to introduce it into common usage. Isn't that how foreign phrases like "Banzai!" and "Gung-Ho" came into common usage in English? "Toilet paper" is now called "bathroom tissue", "stewardesses" are now "flight attendants", "shell-shock" has become "PTSD", "plain" M&Ms are now labeled as "milk chocolate" and "prunes" are now "dried plums". All languages continue to grow and evolve, the changes occur whether we want them to, or not. So I guess the question should be, "Why not?". David G.
  2. Given that the Arabic language predates English by thousands of years, isn't "dust storm" just a new term for haboob? Should we also avoid the use of the term "tsunami"? Besides, "haboob" is fun to say; I use the term any chance I get. David G.
  3. I can't decide whether or not I like it... seems a bit over the top. David G.
  4. Awesome work! In that shot of the front-end, it has a menacing predatory look, like some kind of vicious animal. David G.
  5. I don't usually post progress pics these days- not enough time. Besides, just about everybody here knows I can build, so I don't need to bore them with all the details. I'll post a few pics when I get it finished. The body's painted, just needs some foil work before assembly. I also masked and shot the second color on the interior tonight. It came out kind of sloppy and will need some clean-up. It's tricky work masking these tub-type interiors. Do you have any pics that show the front of yours better? There are so many different options possible, I'm curious to have a better view of what you combination you chose. David G.
  6. There must be something in the air. This is the second or third AMT 62 225 I've seen built. I'm also working on one that I started a couple of months ago- I hope to have it finished in the next few weeks. Yours looks great! David G.
  7. Beautiful build, everything looks great! David G.
  8. Looks Great! David G.
  9. Detail is top-knotch- excellent build! David G.
  10. I've tried it. It works but the adhesive is thick and stringy like rubber cement and is very difficult to remove cleanly. The thickness of the adhesive can also prevent the foil from laying down smoothly. I'd avoid it. David G.
  11. Looks great! You can bet I'll be referring to your build when I crack into mine. Thanks for posting the pics. David G.
  12. Congratulations on your feature Manny. True, Harry did a great job, but so did you. I really enjoyed learning some of the techniques you use to build your excellent wrecked orphans. David G.
  13. Love the hood graphics, great cut-n-paste work! David G.
  14. No matter the size, it's an excellent build! David G.
  15. I fixed it. I went down the filter list and selected each option in turn, logged out then logged back in. That seems to have reset something. All appears to be back to normal- thanks for the input. David G.
  16. I just tried that to no effect, thanks though. David G.
  17. Smooth and Deadly! Nice clean build, great work! David G.
  18. These past couple of days I've had an annoying issue and I don't know if it's a problem with the forum or my IE 64 bit browser. When viewing Forum topics, I usually use the "View New Content" feature. Lately, whenever I use it to access the forum, it automatically selects the "Only Topics I Follow" option in the bottom "Options" section of the filters area. I can deselect this option and get the topics that I haven't read yet, but when I try to advance to any other page than the first one displayed, the "Only Topics I Follow" filter option reloads itself again. This also happens if I manually refresh the page using the browser's refresh button. I've looked at both my browser settings and the profile and content settings on the forum and I can't find anything that seems to address this issue. It's rather annoying to only be able to see the first of the more than twenty pages of new content that I haven't read yet. Is there any body who's experienced this and can share a solution? Help is, of course, appreciated. Thanks, David G.
