You're welcome David. I'm currently working on several builds. I believe you may have seen one or two of them already. This one is stalled at the moment. I just needed a break from it. I occasionally like to challenge myself with a build that's outside of the world of model cars. Hello Everybody! I finally finished the 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 XL. That means it's time to start another build, since it seems that my current MO is to have three builds going at once. The kit is nicely but simply rendered. Though it has a decent amount of detail. This should be a rather quick build, my first build session yielded these results. As near as I can tell, this kit represents the 1968 Austin FX-4 London Taxi. Though the kit is cast in black styrene, I decided it would be better to paint it black. If nothing else, I want to hone my skills at doing a good black paintjob. The interior is Tamiya Red-Brown for the seats and dark gray primer and flocking for the floor. The chassis plate is painted basic flat black and will receive some detail painting. There is an unsightly gap at the top of the partition that divides the passenger and driver compartments. I trimmed some styrene stock to fill it in. That's all for now. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to post any comments you may have. David G.

The grille works quite well with the theme of the car, good choice. That fuel tank... wow! ? David G.

Thank you Larry. Thanks Carl. Thank you Mozzi. Tamiya's name for this color is TS-37 Lavender, though I always thought of it as purple. Tamiya does have a TS-24 Purple which to me actually looks more like violet. The final answer, I'll have to leave up to the two of you. Thanks again, David G.

Hello Everybody! The work on Revell's Northrop P-61 continues. The seam in the top of the fuselage is a bad joint in a bad location. I just can't let that stand. Let the sanding begin! After sanding, there's filling... Then more sanding, more primer and more filling... After another round of sanding and primer, I felt confident putting some color on it. Hello Everybody! Here is AMT's 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 XL. This kit can be built a couple of different ways. It comes with a nice set of Cragar SS wheels and some racing slicks. Also provided is a dual quad high-rise intake manifold with a cold air system. I decided to build this one as a mostly factory mild custom. Kind of a COPO build for a young guy with more money than time who likes to spend weekends at the strip. This was kind of a difficult build. It's an old kit that in some ways is really showing its age. Due to the age and amount of wear on the molds, many of smaller parts are roughly cast and require some reshaping to fit properly. This really became evident when it came to getting the opening hood and trunk to operate properly There were a number of adjustments and compromises that I had to make as I went through the build. I did a whole build thread. For those who may be interested in seeing the journey, here's a link to that. Now, on with the show! AMT's 1965 Ford Galaxie XL. I built and added some rear quarter windows to help hide the convertible top mechanism enclosures in the rear seat. I lowered the ride height in the front just a little. I think this gave it a pretty good stance. I got the trunk lid to line up well enough but the hood has given me nothing but problems. There will be more later. Hello Everybody! This will be the final update to the WIP section for this build. I'm currently editing the final photos and hope to post them in the "Under Glass" section soon. Thanks to all of you who followed along and offered your comments, suggestions and support. I appreciate you being there. A few months ago when I was prepping this build by stripping all the undesirable chrome, I stripped and refinished the air cleaner. I repainted it in aluminum and used some BMF on the center fins and colored the foil with a purple Sharpie. Just to add some zing. Unsurprisingly, there are clearance issues with the air cleaner. It sits a little too high on the carburetors and is keeping the hood from closing completely. So I'm using my little grinder to grind away some material from the inside of the air cleaner. Success! ...mostly. One of the times I was using a tiny blade to clean the styrene dust out the locator holes, I accidentally poked through them. ? Now I have a little more work to do. Because the air cleaner sits about 2mm lower on the carbs, I had to grind away some of the bottom portion on the front to clear the distributor. The engine bay is done! There was no radiator hose (upper or lower) provided by AMT and I didn't feel like making one. With that, the 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 XL is complete!
