  1. Hello Everybody! The push toward the finish line continues! I continue with the application of more BMF! It usually takes me several one to two hour build sessions to complete the foil work on an average American car. This most recent batch of BMF is much better than the last batch I ordered several years ago. This stuff actually sticks! The other batch did not. It would literally fall off the model like a tree leaf in Autumn. The only trouble with this batch is the adhesive it leaves behind after the excess foil is trimmed and removed. The residual adhesive is easily removed with some mineral spirits and cotton buds... But that's an entire build session or two being used for something that shouldn't need to be done. And there's always a chance of damaging the paint. That's it for this round! As always, thanks for looking and please feel free to share your comments. David G.
  2. Ya know? I'm actually considering that suggestion Jim. More people would be likely notice presence of a feature of marginal quality than notice the lack thereof. Thank you Will. David G.
  3. Excellent work on this Jason! It's really cool seeing how the 3D printed items supplement the kit. David G.
  4. A fabulous looking Chevelle, well done! David G.
  5. You've made a great start on this Robert! The engine weathering and rust look right so far. David G.
  6. I did a WIP for the Polar Lights issue back in 2017 which shows the basic interior and some of the upgrades I made. There's a world of difference between the Aoshima and Polar Lights versions. Let me know what you think Bill. David G.
  7. In either case, no they didn't.
  8. Hello Everybody! I realized the other day that I started this build back in May and I'm beginning to feel the need to have it completed. So I'm going to focus my next few build sessions on accomplishing that. I started applying some BMF to the side spears and drip rails. I find it's often best to do the foiling in stages. Most cars of this era had a tint strip across the top of the windshield. I often try to replicate this with varying degrees of success. This time I brush painted some Tamiya X-23 Clear Blue. It dried a little frosty. I may try to fix that... or I mat decide to live with it. As always, thanks for taking a look and please feel free to comment if one so desires. David G.
  9. Nicely done! I really like the personal touches you added. David G.
  10. Thanks for posting this WIP Bill. It's very helpful knowing what's in the kit and a pleasure to see what you do with it. Thanks, David G.
  11. Beautifully done Bill! I like Aoshima's version better than Polar Lights, lots more of the interior detail represented. David G.
  12. Thank you Jim! And no, Monogram didn't provide a plate. I usually "register" most of my builds but this is a concept car I think I can forgo that on this one. Thanks Len, I appreciate that. David G.
  13. Hello Everybody! It seems that the more things I do on this build the more things I discover that need to be done! Here's the next one of those. Getting back to the rear bumper, there's one feature not represented in the model. The two finned openings which I presume are exhaust ports. In the model, the ports are there but the fins are not. After sanding away the ejector pin marks, I did some quick eyeball measurements and marked out the locations for the future fins. Taking some scrap styrene sheet, I fashioned some fins and glued them in place with Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. With a few quick snips and a coat of primer we're good to go! I'll just need to get a stiff brush and clean up the little bits of debris but other than that, on to the next step! As always, thanks for looking. Please feel free to post any comments you may have. David G.
  14. Thank you Will! David G.
  15. Thanks for sharing your fabulous Mercury here Scott! Such a great example of what can be done with this beautiful car. David G.
  16. Holy cow, that's some crazy detail! I'm going to have to try this sometime, thanks for sharing it. David G.
  17. Awesome, thank you! David G.
  18. James2, I really like the custom work did and color you chose for this build. Thanks for taking the time to share with us what you've done so far. If you choose not to share more of your delightful build, I understand. Posting in-progress updates of any art form can be an intensely personal form of expression that leaves one feeling a bit exposed to unsolicited advice. Most folks mean well but they may not understand how personally some others may be effected by their suggestions. If you feel bothered by others offering what they see as positive feedback and suggestions then not sharing works-in-progress may be a good decision. Whatever you decide, please know that I did enjoy the photos you've posted so far and would like to see more if you feel comfortable sharing them. Thanks, David G.
  19. Wow! Absolutely stunning work on this one Jason! ? Everything looks as one would expect it to for such a barn find. Thanks for taking the time to share your techniques with us too. I can't wait to see more. David G.
  20. Nicely done, I love the color combination. David G.
  21. Fabulous looking paint with a very well done and subtle color fade, beautifully done custom work and a very well detailed engine and interior! Holy cow Scott, that's one gorgeous Merc! I would be honored if you chose to post some pics in my thread dedicated to the venerable '49 Mercury. Thanks, David G.
  22. Hello Everybody! I'm getting back in the groove (rut?) of my normal life with more bench time! Here's the next update on the Ford Galaxie. After allowing some cure time for the purple paint, it's time to mask and shoot the flat black for the hood scoop. Success! Finally! The paint for the hood is done. At least until it comes time to detail paint the script on the front. As always, thanks for taking the time to stop by for a look and please feel free to post any comments you may have. David G.
  23. Nice decal application! David G.
  24. I love the spider leg headers! David G.
  25. It's not a hijack Tim, I invited you to post some photos. I always enjoy seeing what other builders are doing with the same kit. It's where I get some of my best ideas... I steal them! Seriously though, you have some good detail painting going on there, no thanks to your faithful and fluffy assistants. Thanks for posting the photos Tim, I truly did enjoy seeing them. Thank you James2. They're a challenge for me too, which is why I'm building this one. Once a year I like to step outside of my modelbuilding comfort zone and challenge myself by building something other than a typical model car. It's been nearly half a century since I built a model plane and this is only the third or fourth one that I remember building. So yeah, it's a good challenge. Thanks again, David G.
