Opinion on Revell ProModeler 69 Dodge Daytona kit
MrObsessive replied to shoopdog's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yours is the first explanation I've ever seen in spotting the box art differences when the body change was made! I've always thought that the box art hadn't changed, but that very subtle tip comes in handy for anyone not wanting to get stuck with a sealed "botched body" kit. I have the corrected kit one but have never built it. I can remember when this kit came out and the built up model was on the box sides. That chopped top stuck out to me like a sore thumb, and I wouldn't touch it till Revell changed the tooling which they did not long after. Thanks again for the tip! -
Opinion on Revell ProModeler 69 Dodge Daytona kit
MrObsessive replied to shoopdog's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I don't think they get as nice to build than either the Pro Modeler '69 Daytona, or the regular kit. You've all seen this here before, but this was my first (and so far only) attempt at one of these I built back in 2000. I did have a few nits with the kit though as presented. Even though there's a Hemi provided in the kit, it's the race one and you'll have to rob other kits to get the correct air cleaner and intake manifold. You'll need to also (if you're building the Hemi) add the torque boxes on the chassis floor in front of the leaf springs. Even though mine has a working suspension, I used the same locating points for the shackles and I found that the rear wheels could just be a teeny scooch more centered in the rear wheelwells------------a complaint I remember hearing about in the box stock '69 Charger kits. Other than that, it builds up nicely, details are spot on, and the body's proportions are to my sight 100% acccurate. To me this is no comparison to the AMT one as that one is just flat out ancient, but was great for the period of time it came out. -
Absolutely love this!! Perfect blue color, and I never would have thought to use chopsticks for my wire separators! I have that same book as you...........INVALUABLE for anyone wanting to really detail this out! I sure wish I had it back when I did my D Type back in 2000. I'll certainly be sure to use it if I ever get around to building an XKSS which is essentially the same car, just legalized for the street.

White decals going yellow fix??
MrObsessive replied to TeamBear's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Try putting them in direct sunlight for a couple days. That worked for me years ago when I had yellowed decals. ? -
Hobbico - BANKRUPT!

Yup! The '57 Corvette I did years ago had both scales in it. Not too hard, and if I said nothing no one would be the wiser. -
My Last Modelhaus order
MrObsessive replied to dimaxion's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
OK!! Had to check something in my bank account just now and I noticed that The Modelhaus has taken out the money for the things I ordered. YES!! Should be showing up to my door maybe sometime this week? I know one of the items was their 1976 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, but darn if I can remember what the other things were?? This also signifies that they must be close to getting all of the backlog done. My order was among one of the final ones, and it's still painful to see them go, but time marches on. -
1988 - 1991 Ford LTD Crown Victoria Scratchbuild
MrObsessive replied to DEL's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Greg, I swear that looks just like it came out of a plastic mold it looks so good! I can remember when these cars were new, and never gave them a second look (unless being pulled over by the local police! ), but I'm very seriously thinking about getting one of these, just to simply build it factory stock. Ain't it funny how time can change your perspective on things?? I had to chuckle at this pic! From the future of 2043?? I'll be in my early 80's at that point and I'm not so sure I'll be building models then! -
Wow...........Really?? Hmmm.....that gives me an idea about a certain Johan late '70's Cadillac Coupe DeVille.
-
Wow! VERY nice! And believe it or not, this is one of my favorite cars of the '80's! This was also Bill Mitchell's last hurrah as this was designed just before he retired in '77. I'm also curious what you started with as a base to make the body.

Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
MrObsessive replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bob, your email says it all as it's coming from the horses mouth. All we can do is wait and see what happens in the following months. -
That's pretty much how I'd do mine............sans the Connie kit of course. And IIRC, that was for '58 only. All '59 Edsels were pretty much based on the cheaper '59 Ford platform. I'm guessing by the end of '58 Ford had figured that the Edsel wasn't going to last past another model year as the '60 MY was cut very short. Ending at the end of November of '59 with not even 3000 cars built.

Hobbico - BANKRUPT!
MrObsessive replied to niteowl7710's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bill, your quote I highlighted can be a very good thread unto itself. I'm hoping that the "hope to be released" '69 Mustang can FINALLY have a correct front end on it. If a guy like me with bad eyesight and no extravagant tooling can correct body shapes and contours, I just don't get why a model company with 10's of thousands of dollars to spend on tooling can't get it right. With what's been happening to Revell lately, I'm just wanting to see the Mustang released in the first place........it's been pushed back twice now?? -

That would be great if he's able to come to NNL East, but sadly the huge "Wish List" he had up for the last several years probably won't be back. It's a shame as there were some very good suggestions I've seen in the past, but all we can do is hope that at least the company survives at this point. -
Welcome aboard Ethaniel! I'm just outside of the Harrisburg area, and in fact we have a model club that meets not only in Mechanicsburg (today), but also in York (CPMCC). You're a bit up there as far as distance, but it's definitely worth getting to our meetings sometime if you're able.

NNL East - - April 21st - - Are you going..???
MrObsessive replied to Ramfins59's topic in Contests and Shows
Rich! Ha...........I should have checked the board first as I just posted the same topic on another thread! Yup! I'm taking next Friday off so I'll leave here late that morning. Hope to be in Wayne early/mid afternoon barring any SNAFUS. I literally just booked a room just 15 minutes ago (not the main hotel), as I figured I'd better not try driving for long distances at night if I can avoid it with the way my eyesight has been. I'm sure it'll be yet ANOTHER PACKED SHOW! See ya! -
Just booked a room for Friday night (not at the main hotel). I took next Friday off, so I'll be leaving here late morning then, and should be in Jersey mid afternoon. I might leave a tad earlier so I can avoid (for the most part) NJ traffic on a Friday. My how time flies! At first I was planning on going just for the day, but then the thought of night driving doesn't thrill me the way my eyesight is these days. So I figured......bite the bullet, pay the money for the room, and get there the day before avoiding the very early morning night driving, and then leave after the show when it's still nice and bright out. So....................who's all planning on going??

More on Molotow pens
MrObsessive replied to smhardesty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorry it's taken a bit to get back to you James. Don't hold me to this as what I got came to me in a reusable container, but that looks just like the stuff I got. My friend that gave it to me swears by it, and others in a Facebook group were raving over it. As I mention before, it's very important that you let the paint dry thoroughly----as Bob mentioned at least overnight. One thing I've learned is if you touch it too soon and try to touch it up...........it won't work. Just makes it worse. Better to strip it and start over, and I found that alcohol works very well in stripping it. -
This is the money shot here! I had to look twice as I thought for a second this was the actual concept car! Very nice save on this old build and yes, rescuing old models and restoring them is a nice alternative sometimes as opposed to starting something brand new.

keep stopping at the end of my builds
MrObsessive replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You said it! I was bogged down for the longest time with my Shelby build as far as detail on the chassis. Biggest thing was getting the exhaust to "attach" correctly by making some sort of hangers. Well, I decided that since the model will be displayed 99% of the time roof up, I'm not going to worry about it any longer and just build the exhaust with a few clamps and call it a day. I guess my handle on this board says it all...............I'm at a point in life though where I don't get too much into crazy working features as much.........at least in the smaller scales. As time goes on, and my eyesight doesn't cooperate as well as years gone by, I may do that to the larger scale or simply stick to out of the box builds and be satisfied with a nice shelf model. It's also one of the reasons I've taken up to doing something "easy" for a build right after I get done with something difficult. Brings some of the fun back into building, and I can be satisfied that I got something else done. -
STOP THE PRESS! All new 1977 Oldsmobile NASCAR kit
MrObsessive replied to DanR's topic in WIP: NASCAR
Interesting comments about the side body creases on the '77 Olds. I couldn't help but notice that's one of the first things I'd have to change if I ever wanted to build an accurate 1976-'77 Olds Cutlass Supreme. I'm not as familiar with the NASCAR version, but I'm VERY familiar with the street car as that was one of our Driver's Ed cars that I had to live with for a semester in High School when they were new. Yeah, brand new start-up companies have to get all the details pretty much nailed down before their products hit the streets. You know how it goes...................."First Impressions Are The Most Memorable". If they get something wrong out of the gate, the market may not be so kind if there's a second and third impression. Trumpeter car kits anyone?? -
I want to add that I'm definitely watching this thread! Many years ago, I thought about using the Revell '69 Dart for a chassis donor, but using the '71 Duster looks to be a much better fit! It looks like you didn't have to do any hacking which is a major plus, and the floor pan looks to be very close to the 1:1 as far as the stampings go. Keep up the excellent work!

Ha! Just late last evening, I was looking over models for possible future projects. I forgot I had bought decals from Fred Cady a while back for the '69 Firebird TA. A model that's NEVER been done correctly. Soooo......being my compulsive self, I dug out a Revell '69 Camaro kit that I have, and was comparing that to the hoary MPC '69 Firebird. Looks VERY doable to me, but once I get rolling on it (I have no timeline), I'm not so sure I want to stop midstream and have it cast. That would take the wind out of my sails to get it done. That was also one of the kits I strongly advised to Ed Sexton at last years NNL East that could be done. He said that he thought that was done before, but I told him that it's woefully inaccurate, and they already have the "bones" for the kit via their '69 Camaro, and '68 Firebird models. Sadly, the shape that Revell's in these days, I don't expect them to ever do that model so it's gonna have to come out of my mind and my own two hands.

SOME CURRENT ROUND 2 INFO TODAY...
MrObsessive replied to AC Norton's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Hmmm..................mighty interesting that '69 Oldsmobile! -
Bill, you just pretty much nailed the reason I build the way I do. At this late date, and with the shape a certain model company is in, I've pretty much ruled out any more hopes of "wish kits" that might have been. This is one of the reasons I've jumped on the 3D printing bandwagon in the last year or so. There's no limits as to what can be created with that, and I can only see that tech getting bigger as the years wear on.
-
Sigh.........yeah Ron, you know that saying------"You snooze, you lose". My better sense kept telling me to pick it up when I saw it, but with you know with the NNL East's MANY distractions by the time I wanted it, POOF it was gone. Later, I'll drop Tapani a line to see if he's still making it since he won't be there this year.
