Chuck that's lookin' mighty nice! LOVE that engine! I remember seeing a burgundy '64(?) done similar with TWIN turbos! Talk about tearing your head off! Keep up the good work!

Harry, that may be a pre-production photo in which Ford may have come close to making the sedans pillarless. Somewhere along the line a change was made to give the car a B pillar. Everyone I've ever seen had a full post when the doors are opened. (not my usual style of posting as I'm doing this from my iPhone.)
-
Curt, those '61-'68 Continentals did indeed have a B pillar albeit a very slender one. Now of course, the convertibles have no B pillar but the sedans certainly did................ Ford may have felt the car was a bit better structurally with a pillar.........which is puzzling 'cuz the convertible was also a four door, yet obviously pillarless.

Niko, I can't help you on the truck wheels, but on the PE wheels-------Detail Master did make a very nice set of Borrani wire wheels. If you click here it will take you to a site that carries them. Unfortunately, they are out of stock at the moment............but I would bookmark the site, and keep checking as they're still in production. BTW, here is a pic of those very wheels on a Cougar II build I did a couple years ago.............. They're some other companies that make PE wheels, but they can be hard to get and/or expensive. If you check hlj.com, they have a whole list of PE wheels to choose from. Once again, a lot of them are backordered, or simply out of stock. Hope this helps!

Now that is nice and clean! Quite an unusual subject--------and that's what makes 43rd's so neat! I build them from time to time...........in fact it's about time for another one! Excellent work Mark!
-
I'm a big believer in making do with whatcha got-----as well as adding with some PE if needed. Here's a few of mine............... The Ferrari engine (from Norm Veber) on top came with parts to build the linkage, but I remember adding some of my own as well. Also, getting an actual shop manual helps in a lot of cases.............a little "obsessive" for sure, but it helps get the job done.

Candy sprays
MrObsessive replied to Pastor Plastic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As the others have mentioned, It would be a GREAT idea to practice on a junk body. Candies take a special technique to do--------one of the things you'll want to do is to count your strokes. Also, you'll want to paint in a criss-cross way on the body to avoid "tiger stripes". You can spray diagonally one way say across the body, and then go diagonally the other way to make full coverage. Counting your strokes for each side can also minimize one side being darker than the other and vice-versa. As they say "Practice Makes Perfect! " -
Another one outta the ballpark Cruz! Yes, those Fujimi Enthusiast series kits can be a real pain in the tush to build------but well worth it when done! ...............Those decals would have sent me over the edge as I'm not a big fan of putting them on! Yours look great!

Making Door & Hood Hinges
MrObsessive replied to Fullauto-1966's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
You ain't kiddin'! And well said! Those pics are from my stillborn '64 GTO..............The last pic I had yet to add a door catch. Yes, it can be time consuming to get the correct looking structure for door jambs-------but in the end it's worth it! -
Making Door & Hood Hinges
MrObsessive replied to Fullauto-1966's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
One reason is not every car uses the same type/style of hinges. Not to mention the different radii of various and sundry hinges to get them to work properly. A lot of what I do when making hinges is trial and error. I also like to have either a shop manual, or actual pics of the car I'm working on. Some cars like street rods for instance have the same type of hinges (piano style), so they can be used pretty much universally. IIRC, the aftermarket makes piano hinges in various sizes for such builds. But more modern cars vary so much from door shape to hinge type-----it would be hard for an aftermarket guy to make one size fits all, and look correct in scale. -
Highly Detailed GENERAL LEE.... finally done...!1yr and 6 days
MrObsessive replied to mopar01lee's topic in WIP: Model Cars
From what I can see on Davin's build, the retainer for the hinge is glued (Super Glued?) inside the fender, and the door swivels on the "collar" that swings on the outside "loop" of the hinge. Very clever as this is a simple way to do inward turning doors, which is correct for this era Charger. In fact, most cars built after '66--------the doors opened this way. I do my hinges a bit differently (if not a bit more complex), but it all looks good to me Davin! -

Ha! Don't I know it?? Keep up the great work! That's not an easy car to do with the opening doors because of the differing contours, but you're off to a great start! I've used those working springs on a '55 T-Bird build years ago, and while they were not super-duper Ford correct------they worked well for what I wanted........in fact they still do. -
2011 Revell-Monogram fall releases
MrObsessive replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Whoops! I stand corrected! I went to take a look at the kit as I have a couple in the stash (both original issues) and you're right, it's not a 2 'n' 1! Although it's just as well as I'm not a custom kinda guy-------and I have those kits to perhaps take one of 'em and turn it into a Impala Sport Sedan, with a roof section I got from The Modelhaus. -
2011 Revell-Monogram fall releases
MrObsessive replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The early '90's first release of the '59 Impala convertible kit had all of those parts that will be in the reissue. I built one back then, but I couldn't stand the Connie kit, so I built mine with the regular rear bumper. -
Testors Chrysler engine red
MrObsessive replied to Modlbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I was building up the engine for my '06 Magnum, I used Krylon Safety Orange (OSHA).................... It looks to be a VERY close if not exact match for what you want. -

Maybe Cruz BUT--------What happens when the system crashes and you CAN'T buy with your credit/debit card? It's not a matter of if but when it will happen! I always try to keep cash on me just in case. Not a lot, but just enough in case of an emergency such as that. -
Actually Terry, I have to stand corrected as far as the roof vents--------'64's DID have those vents........What they didn't have (yet) were the functional fender vents that started with the '65. I should have known as I can remember seeing these when I was a kid (does that make me old too? ), also I have a Corvette book right in the house which details every single nut and bolt from '53 to '82.

Back after many many years
MrObsessive replied to Davola's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Acrylics clean up well with water when wet. However if you mess up a paint job, Windex (or any ammonia based product) will clean it up as well especially after it's dry. Water based acrylics shine up just as well as enamels..........they just don't have the horrendously long drying times that enamels have. If you get the Tamiya acrylics, you'll want to use their thinner, as it can be a bit thick out of the jar. Some have suggested using isopropyl alcohol, but in my experience, I've always found this can lead to fisheyes--------------not a good thing! -
Promolite 2000 '61 Plymouth Fury Hardtop
MrObsessive replied to Chuck Most's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Of the total '61 lineup from the Big Three, that's got to be the strangest one of all! In a cool kinda way though looking back! Anyone ever notice the tiny dorsal fin right down the middle of the trunk lid on Fury's?? -
Tamiya jar paints
MrObsessive replied to BOSWELL891's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To add to that.........stir the paint slowly. Don't shake them up or whip them mightily, as this will make air bubbles that will show up on your surface. HTH!
