Jason, that turned out really, really NICE! As I might have mentioned before, I'm glad you used the Revell kit as I still think between this and the AMT, the Revell has a more accurate body and is just better detailed considering it's much newer. Very nicely done interior, and I like the use of the champagne colored embossing powder for the carpet. MUCH more realistic in this instance than flocking!

A Better Grill
MrObsessive replied to bill lanfear's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Bill, I got the grille yesterday and all I can say is WOW! This is one of the nicest open grille castings I've seen! Here's a quick pic............ Just a very small, tiny bit of clean up in the grille slots...............that's it! Thanks so much and please keep up the TERRIFIC work! -
Great video Bill! You can best believe that Jay Leno will get one if not one of THE first to get a C8. Oh no doubt! It would be a sin if they did NOT make this car into a full detail glue kit. Painting it would be a real bear though with all those creases and such.........gonna be using a LOT of Parafilm and Tamiya tape!

If the economy was better and GM was more willing to take the risk back then, we could have very well seen this car on the streets! Yes, I like this one a lot too! I've got the kit of this car, but have never touched it. This is one of Bill Mitchell's best designs IMO and this car for a mid engine has better proportions than the new C8. If I had the bucks though, I'd have that C8 parked at my house!

I do like the looks of that, especially without that spoiler! I'd settle for a more traditional looking spoiler such as more of a ducktail shape. 60K for the kind of performance this car's going to give? I'd say that is a SUPER bargain! I'm hearing performance numbers of zero to 60 in LESS than 3 seconds! YIKES!

Thanks for the link! I have a number of paint references bookmarked, but not this one. They show the paint codes along with the color matches, so this'll come in handy for my paint guy who has sometimes had trouble looking up certain colors in the past.

Thanks Charlie! Check your PM's here..........

Charlie, I'm trying to send you a PM...........check your inbox as it may need cleaned out.

Charlie! Wow, it HAS been a long time! Glad to see you here again, and I'm sorry that happened with your place. I remember you telling me about it a while back at the NNL. As Dave said, I would definitely come after them. A LOT of that is going on these days, and it's worth trying to see if you and your parents can be compensated. Hope to see you here more often!

A Better Grill
MrObsessive replied to bill lanfear's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I ordered the grille today Bill as I'm very impressed! As I mentioned to you and I'll tell others, I'm not much of a truck guy as cars are mostly my thing. I bought two of the Moebius trucks ('69 and the '70), and I paid no attention to the grille and that went past me. Now that it's been pointed out what's wrong with it, I can't unsee it. There's some other things about the cab itself I'd like to change when the time comes, but the grille looks terrific and I put in an order for one not long ago. Thanks! -
Same here. You KNOW the dealers are gonna mark them up waaaay higher than that. They know that too many people want to be "first" to own one, so they'll feed on that and laugh all the way to the bank. I'll reserve judgement on the car till I can see one on the street. Pics and video may not do it justice and there's always the chance Chevy could slip us a red herring and the car be TOTALLY different than what we've been shown and speculating.

The Missing Corvette
MrObsessive replied to NOBLNG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No, I don't like that at all. Some designs are just "meant" for certain cars and the split window for the '63 'Vette was just meant for it. Like the '71 Boat tail Riviera, that design looks correct for it. . Personally, I liked the C4 'Vettes especially the later ones with the rounded tail. Unfortunately, I have a hell of time getting in and out of one with those horrendously high door sills due to the chassis design. I'll take a C6 as that to me was a nice looking evolution from the C5. I've sat and driven one of those and to me it's MUCH more user friendly than the C4. I never quite got used to the C7's.....just a bit too over the top for me. Nice cars, but it bordered on being overstyled IMO. Then there's the upcoming C8 which seems to have the automotive press on its ear. It'll remain to be seen how that one will work out against the relatively short lived C7. I'll take a 2013 Corvette Grand Sport if you please! -
And here is that terrific thread of his D-Type!

That's funny, I like the '57's better WITH the porthole hardtop than without. To me it looks better I guess because of the longer back end, it breaks up some of the 'mass'. I can always tell if there's a '"restored" '55 with an incorrect top on it if it has the portholes. Yeah, that was a '56 option as there were probably complaints about visibility not long after the '55's were intro'd.

Tom, a while back I tried to cram the chassis of AMT's '56 under their '57 and it was 'bout impossible to get in without a lot of fuss. One could convert the '56 into a '55, but the following would need to be done.......... Fill in the fender vents (as was mentioned by Steve) Fill in the portholes on the hardtop Change the rear bumper (use the front as a starting point) New taillight bezels New seat pattern New steering wheel Slightly different exhaust New emblems front and rear.
-
Here's the '55 I converted from Monogram's '56 for those that have not seen it. Let's hope I'm out of 404 Error hell and this posts................
-
I have like three of those Scott! Two built ones and a never touched kit. Yes, it would be GREAT to have those back but I hope in MUCH sturdier boxes. Each time I see one of those turn up in the 'Bay, the windshield frame is severely bent. I'd like to restore the one built-up one of these days with some better detail than what AMT originally put in the kit. It just screams for some superdetailing! EDIT: OK, I thought I had these pics on Fotki somewhere........here are a couple pics of one of the 1/16's I have that needs restoring.

Testing.......getting TERRIBLE 404 errors trying to answers Elvin's question! EDIT: OK, those posted and I had a LOT more to add, but the 404 errors on this site are getting to the point I no longer want to post anything. Here you can see the differences and the changes one would need to make it correct. Top is '55, lower is '56.

That interior is SUPER slick! And I see you used embossing powder for the carpet which looks very nice in that shade!

In need of help repairing a car badge
MrObsessive replied to Hotrod 97's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You too! I just commented about a good friend of mine that had one back in the late '80's. He thought my car was interesting (I had my '69 AMX then) and I thought HIS was interesting as that was the first I ever saw a Granada like that. -

You're the only other person I've run into that knew of a car of that type! Years ago I had a good friend that had a '75-'76 Granada four door and that had a four speed OD on the floor. I thought it was weird as heck for that type of car, but it was definitely factory built. -
'59 Chevy Impala Covertible
MrObsessive replied to r60man's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
David were not the convertibles interiors vinyl though? Seems like most '50's convertible interiors I've seen the seats were vinyl. Wouldn't want to ruin that nice cloth in case the top was left down! On the matter of the color, I went to my local paint guy who mixed up a touch-up amount of '59 Roman Red for me. Now granted one would need an airbrush for this, but since I was doing a detailed build, I figured might as well go all out and get the factory color for it. I do wish Revell however offered other colors for their seats besides red or blue decals. -
Of the Tri-Five T-Birds, I like them in this order: 1) 1955 2) 1957 3) 1956 I don't thoroughly dislike the '56's, I just never cared for that Continental spare hanging out the back. The '55's I like the best as to me of the three years, it's the trimmest of them all. Model Car Garage was to have a PE set of the '55-'57 T-Birds. It's interesting that I see the PE set on the site, but it's not listed anywhere as being available yet for sale.

To echo what Tim said, while I haven't built one yet I do have their '57 Maserati 450S kit and yes, it does need some cleanup of the parts as you go along. For the price I don't think they're bad at all compared to the price of Model Factory Hiro's kits for instance which as you know, can be hundreds of dollars. Here's a pic of Vince LoBosco's Maserati 450S......this model has to be seen in person to be really appreciated! Fantastic job he did on it!
