When I was restoring this '63 Porsche 356, I used the Molotow Chrome to redo the wheels and mirrors. One thing I remember is that I put the wheels in the dehydrator, but not right away. I think I waited a bit till the paint was dry to the touch, then put them in to fully cure. But..........like others have said, the paint is not that durable for excessive handling, so it's a good idea to make this one of the LAST things you do before calling it all done. And yes, I've found that the refills do seem to work better than the pens. The pens can be iffy after a point, but the refills if kept tightly sealed should last you quite a while.

That '57 Buick Century two door hardtop brings back some childhood memories for me as a close family friend had one of those except theirs was all white. I used to love sitting in the back seat of that and looking out those interesting triple rear windows. In fact, in my neighborhood in the later '60's, there were a number of '57 cars parked on the street. The Olds 98 pictured comes to mind......a neighbor who lived behind us had a '57 Plymouth (Belvedere?) that was always parked in the alley. Another neighbor had a '57 Chevy two door wagon-----rather plain so I'm guessing either a 150 or 210 model. Thanks for showing us what's in the book Matt.......those '57 cars (among other '50's stuff) were some of the first cars I saw when I first knew what a car was!

Super Beautiful Andy! Love the colors and your interior/engine details are top notch!

Looks terrific! Your color is also one of my favorites for a '57 Chevy!

Wow, that's a BEAUTIFUL Starliner! Interesting color though...........it looks yellow, but according to the color palette I'm seeing, Ford lists is as "Desert Gold". The lighting can play tricks on colors as well as any given monitor however. I have a VERY clean never painted builtup of this car and I'd love to paint it this very color. Well, they say "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"! While I'm not a big fan of this car............I thought they looked strange even when I was a kid. I wouldn't mind having a kit of this simply because it IS different and I do like this a bit better than the Dodge. Just a bit............. Come to think of it, I believe this car and its sibling along with the ill fated '62's, may have been the catalyst that caused Virgil Exner to be shown the door.

Gotta agree with you there Steve about GM’s ‘61’s. Of course, I AM a bit biased as those would have been brand new cars when I came along. ? GM (and Ford the year before) were “coming back down to earth” which much cleaner shapes and were shrinking the huge fins which were all the rage just a couple model years earlier.

Looks great! The resolution lines in the body are a little heavy, but nothing that sanding and some scratch filling primer can't fix. I keep saying the the sky's the limit when it comes to 3D printing. You can make practically anything you want! No wishing/hoping for one of the model makers to make something for you.

Just seen your post Jon! I like the idea of how to handle the bubbletop in the Pontiac Banshee. That's what's held me back from ever building that kit............I absolutely hate the severe distortion the kit glass has as with the actual car, that's the main focal point of that car. Crystal clear glass with a distortion free view. I could either vacuform it as you've shown, or cut the glass apart (carefully!) and sand and polish out the glass as the model would have opening doors. Much easier that way than trying to sand the inside of that bubble. Thanks for the tip! -
Anyone Up For A 1964 Valiant Convertible?

Great rescue so far Tom! I wonder how close a match that Duster chassis would be for a ‘62 Dodge Lancer? I’ve got a very restorable builtup of one of those and your WIP has given me an idea. Looks like they were all the same basic unibody floor stampings back then. ? -

I hear ya! A while back there was a seller trying to pass off a Revell '65 Chevelle as an original AMT annual. One look at it and I could tell it was the Revell as the roofline was a dead giveaway. I dropped him a line to say something and he wrote back to tell me.............."Well they're all under the same company anyway". I wrote in return.......they definitely are NOT! He then shot back in all caps and said "CEASE CONTACT!" The model did sell, but to be nosy I kept a watch on his auction page and it's interesting that there was never any feedback for it. So yeah, I just ignore those types UNLESS in the description they say they're not sure of the brand or model. That can be the case where someone is trying to sell things off an estate for instance. -
Oh, I GOTTA get that Schwinn bike! Make it just like the red one I had when those were new.

I totally hate that when a seller tries to pass off something that's not what they say it is. Then some of them get an attitude when you point it out............I guess they're ticked because their cover's been blown. -

Was the MPC body that wonky?? That roofline looks an awful lot like the Round 2 one. ? -
VERY nice indeed! I've always seen this kit as a MAJOR turning point for AMT. Just about perfect proportions, abundant details and not fiddly to put together in the least as I built one years ago. Still one of AMT's best and one I can see this kit stick around for many years to come.

Any one in the know with Hasegawa?

Kurt, you're right about that MFH Ferrari Lusso. That was one I wanted but at the time they were nowhere to be found. As a "consolation" I bought their 330 LMB from Ed Cervo (Ed427vette on eBay). When I was at NNL East last year I picked up a Lusso transkit from AirTrax, so I can work with that one as it's quite good. Pretty much most of those kits you're showing I have in my stash and very soon I'm about to bite the BIG bullet and go for MFH's 1/12 Ferrari 365 GTS Daytona Spyder. So yeah, it'll be a LOT of beans and rice for pretty much the rest of the year! -
1968 Chevy Corvette 427 L/88 Convertible resto Update! 2/2/19
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks All! Just a couple hours ago I got the body clear coated. So far so good as it's in the dehydrator right now. I put it in the dehydrator as I used an enamel clear. I didn't want to tempt fate with using another type of clear and have a possible reaction (bad) with the paint. Not to mention, enamel clears can be notoriously slow to dry, so this speeds things up just a bit. I hope to get this rubbed out fully by the weekend and then I can get this all buttoned up. -

Don't get me started with insurance! I see them as nothing more than social engineers. You can have the nice brown SUV/Minivan with 'reasonable' rates, but you can't have the red (name your sporty car) because WE think that's high risk. Never mind that in my over 40 years of driving, I've NEVER wrecked any car I've owned! -

MrObsessive replied to aurfalien's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It would be nice if Hasegawa would reissue that 250 TR.......eBay prices can be CRAZY! I have one fortunately with some detail stuff to build it. I'll hang on to it though as we don't know from one year to the next what the status will be for Ferrari kits. I was hoping like crazy that the Italeri Ferrari 250 GT SWB was making a comeback as it was hotly talked about a while back, but sadly that's not the case. That's another one that's about unobtainium, but interesting enough I went on a Japanese auction site to get the one I have now. It almost NEVER turns up on eBay! -

David I hear you on high impact colors on cars! When I had my '69 AMX it was a very bright yellow that couldn't be missed. More than a few times, I got pulled over for 'something' and one time a cop stopped me as he swore my car had no front bumper. Well, he looked mighty foolish as he couldn't see that the bumpers were painted black and since he was in FRONT of me initially, in his rear view mirror they appeared missing. He also thought I was a bit 'young' for a car like that! He had asked me how old I was (I was 27 at the time) and he said "Oh.......I think you can handle it!" So yeah, even with my Challenger which is white, I have to 'drive on eggshells' in certain places. I've already been stopped once and the cop (who was driving a Charger police car incidentally) just gave me a warning thank goodness! -
Just noticed this thread and I'm definitely watching! One of Revell's NICER kits with near perfect body lines. One flub-up I notice with these however is the front bumper fascia is a bit too long. This gives some builtups I've seen a 'battering ram' appearance. Real easy to trim that down maybe a couple scale inches to look better.
