As far as I'm aware the MPC Dusters/Dart Sports/Demon all use the same chassis. The Volare does have its own correct transverse torsion bar chassis.

Andy, you do realize the the Chevy big block didn't come out until 1965. Maybe you ought to do like Nick and watch the movie.

OK, more Mopar questions....
slantasaurus replied to imatt88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually its the Lindberg 64 Plymouth kit that has the 3 speed manual trans, the 64 Dodge and Deora kits both have automatics. Another note on Slant engines, 1960-69 engines were painted red, 1970 and later are painted Chrysler light blue. -
Looks cool, but not practical for street use in 1962. With modern EFI a Hilborn style injection can be used in a street aplication, in 1962 with a mechanical fuel pump, someone would need to prime the injectors everytime you were to start the car.

If you are going to use a Slant 6 from the 64 Dodge or Plymouth kits update the valve cover to the post 1969 smooth style rather than the ribbed valve cover in the kit. A closer to correct valve cover can be found in the Deora kit although it is chromed, problem is it doesn't fit the Lindberg Slant very well. -
Andy, I hate to tell you this but I think we have our first rules violation. Tunnel ram intakes weren't available until at least the laste 60's. Chrysler engeneers had just begun experimenting with ram tuned intakes in 1960 (long rams) and the aftermarket didn't start making that style intake for several more years. Do you have a 6-71 blower or another intake that would work for you ?

Another option that hasn't been mentioned yet is Pine Sol or other "pine" based cleaners, I used that for several years before switching to the purple stuff. Some of the newer laquer paints and pre-painted kits can be stripped with 90% alcohol. Bleach is also good for stripping chrome but doesn't work on most paints.

The New NASCAR

Everyone complaining about "foreign" cars in Nascar should go back to my post on page one and reread it. -
The New NASCAR
slantasaurus replied to Patrick2005's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
While there are things about Nascar I don't like, EFI isn't one of them. When was the last time a new car was sold with a carburetor on it ??? 20, 25 years ??? And Toyota ??? I'm not a fan of Toyota by any streach but there has never been anything in Nascar's rule book to exclude any make of car. In 1952 Jaguar was the first foreign make to win a Nascar race, yes, it was a road course. In 1961 Volvo competed in the then new Compact class, so don't complain about Toyota ( just root against them....lol). Comon templates would be my biggest complaint as that goes against the spirt of compition but I understand why they went that direction. There is always talk about going to comon engines but it never comes from Nascar themselves. As long as its racing, its still better than football to me. -
Mark, your 55 Gulwing would be fine, I was just waiting for you to post a pic of your kit before adding you to the list.

New kits of old rigs?
slantasaurus replied to Chuck Most's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Gotta love a big Dodge with swing-away fenders. An old Jimmy would be nice too. Or maybe an experimental IH for the truely bizare.... -
Jim, I have the same problem to tackle with my 62 Dart, the shallow interior would only be more noticeable on a convertible. As old as these JoHan kits are it makes me question when exactly people began to evolve legs.

Do you remember "BIG AL" ?
slantasaurus replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nope, don't remember it at all........just saw it a few weeks ago in Garlits Museum. -
Go for it Jim. I'm building an old JoHan 62 Dart and that kit seems to be a lot harder to find than the 60 Plymouth wagon. I was also considering the wagon for my build (kinda fits with my name...) but went with the Dart. Its only plastic after all.
