My bad, I was thinking of the old Revell tooling with opening doors that could be built as a 53 or 54 Chevy.
-
If you're looking for a Stovebolt Chevy with speed parts try to find a Monogram 53 Corvette, it has 2 different intake options.....2 or 3 carb intakes and it is in 1/24 scale unlike the Revell 53 Chevy.
-
The 39 Chevy SD would be a nice addition to the Cannonball, I was wondering why there haven't been more Street Rods entered. As far as an engine goes you would have to look for other Monogram based kits. If I remember right that 39 has a 427 big block which wouldn't fit the build. You might try the small block from the black 55 Chevy that Andy is building, you could always use the 427 in that so that you wouldn't just have a parts kit left over.

Halibrands are good for the build too, those started in the late 50's. I have a few old Hot Rod magazines from the early 60's and that's what I've based my decisions off. One of the issues I have has some drag raing coverage (which shows 5 slot and Torque-Thrust wheels) and also has Indy 500 coverage (which shows Halibrands).

Zen, from what I've been able to find in vintage photos the 5 slot mag wheels are fine by me. Astro may not have made them in 62 but other companies were for sure by then. Same with the other wheels in that pic, American Racing was making Torque Thrusts at least by 62. Wheels are one of the tougher parts of this CBP because there weren't many options in 1962. I'm glad many of you guys replied, I just wanted to see who was around. Don't worry if your project is stalled. I haven't been building much myself its still a long way from the end of November.

I've always heard that the 2 happiest days for a boat owner are the day he buys his boat....and the day he sells it. -
Your opinion wanted!

I have no problem with combining the Nascar and Drag sections into a Compition section. As it is there really is no correct place to post an Indy car or F1 build, Compition would solve that oversite. -
Hey, wait.........we can get paid to be here ???...........I must be doing it wrong.

Cotton Owens Passes
slantasaurus replied to DR JAY's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
While I agree that the pioneers of Nascar deserve to be inducted into the HoF Richard Petty brought up a great point while being inducted into the first class. He believed that many drivers that came before him should have been inducted before him but, if they had been inducted the media would have had nobody to interview and would have paid little attention to the event and the HoF would not have recieved much attention. No, it's not perfect but that is the main reason people like Richard Petty went in before Lee Petty and Darrell Waltrip, Rusty Wallace, and Bobby Allison are in and Herb Thomas, Fireball Roberts, and the Flock brothers are not. -
Big scale 60's kits

Vintage ads I've seen for the Revell 1/4 scale working Slant 6 engine list it at $10.95, which was rather expensive in 1961-3 dollars. -
Interesting 2 tone there Nick, I like it. I'm not craazy about the hood scoop but thats me. Is your Merc gonna have a hot Flattie under the hood or some OHV engine ??

MODS- what does "0 warning points" mean?
slantasaurus replied to Cato's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've seen the rules Harry still doesn't explain why I was given a warning. None of those rules were violated -

Why bother, you can get warnings for breaking rules that aren't posted anywhere on the forum and are just made up at the whim of a moderator. -

Where are they ever going to find a hearse fast enough to make him happy ??? -
I actually got a little bit of modeling done tonight. I was fitting the inner fenders, firewall and core support to the Dart body, which needed some work where I cut out the original core support. Now everything fits like it should, I just need to add a little bit of Evergreen to the top of the Lindberg kits core support to mate up with the Dart hood and every thing should be fine. I'm hoping I can get it in paint maybe next week or at least sometime soon before the humidity makes painting out of the question. Also, I still haven't gotten around to adding a few people to the entry list on page 1, I'm going to try to do that in the next day or so.

From matchbox to 1:24. What about a 1:1
slantasaurus replied to Kaleb's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Does anyone else see the irony here ?? It would seem like a vehicle with the name "Matchbox" on it would be more capible of starting fires than extinguishing them. -
Question about the Ford 9"
slantasaurus replied to Monty's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ford actually painted the center section which holds the ring and pinion gears in red oxide primer which is why you see them painted that way. -

What's under the Hood of this car?
slantasaurus replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The engine you most likely had in your 60 Dodge Matador was a 361 cu in. It was in the same engine family as the 350, 383, and 400 low deck B engines.
