Stanton was the best around, great selection of aftermarket stuff and always lots of kits. I also used to like Zeinth hobby that was on Irving Park near Austin but they've been gone since about 94 or so. Do you guys know about the super secret hobby shop over on Belmont ?? I almost hate to mention it because I don't want everyone going there, talk about a selection of kits !!!

Rob, I kinda like it as it sits but if I was going to lower the rear I'd add spacers in 1mm increments until it looked "just right".

No major work finished, just a lot of little things I've done in the last few weeks... When I cut out the stock radiator support there was still some plastic under the fenders, last night I was talking to a friend who asked me how the inner fenders from the 64 kit fit the 62 body so I decided to mock them up today. It looks like some more cutting/grinding is in order... Basic engine block/heads/intake are assembled and painted, it is painted Hemi Orange it just looks red in the pic... The 64 Dodge kit has a narrowed Dana 60 rearend, that won't do for a 62 Max Wedge car so I raided a 71 Duster kit for an 8 3/4 rear (I can always build a Duster drag car with a Dana...). I already filled the notches in the Duster rear, the width seems to be just right for the car too so that will save me some work. Finally, I cut out the floor from the shallow interior bucket, Like Jim's 60 Plymouth wagon it seems to be 1/4 - 3/16" too shallow. I still haven't decided if I want to cut the front seat away from the door panels (more work) or if I'm just going to extend the door panels down to a more correct depth. I think I've decided on a color for the car, Testors Copenhagen Blue looks as close to the factory color as I have on hand. The only downside is that limits my interior color choices, I don't want to go with black, and I'm not crazy about white either.....that leaves me with a matching blue as my only real choice. At least a dark color will hide the lack of detail inside the car.

I'm guessing you must live near Ram and Chicagoland hobby then. I'm not too far from you.

What's the story behind your user name/avatar?
slantasaurus replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
My screnename came about after a night hanging out in my garage with some friends. I own (owned as I'm about to sell it...) a 74 Plymouth Duster with a 225 Slant 6. A friend of my was giving me a hard time about keeping the Slant engine in the car instead of swapping in a V-8, among the comments he made that night was something to the affect, " Get rid of that Slant, its a dinosaur...". After hearing that comment and variations of it several times I responded by saying, "Yeah, it is a dinosaur....a Slantasaurus Six" kind of a play on Tyranasaurs Rex. I also have another friend who drag races a Slant 6 car and he calls his car Slantzilla. When I finally got on the internet, I needed a screnename and Slantasaurus just seemed to work. The avitar I got from one of the platemaker websites, Illinois, as I live in Chicago. -
What year is this car?
slantasaurus replied to Rick Schmidt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rick, I just built that exact kit last year for the Cannonball, the grille on it is the optional "custom" piece from the kit. From what I was able to figure out from the kit box, instructions, and decal sheet I believe it was a 1975 Capri II. Its a very nice kit considering its age, stands up well compaired to modern kits. -
Not too late to join yet, I'm still hoping we get some more builders involved. I'll add your T-bird to the list, Matti.

New Ferrari Unveiled Today
slantasaurus replied to Len Colombo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe its just me.....but did you ever think you'd see a Ferrari in a thong ??? -
About 15 years ago I was visiting the Museum in Auburn, IN before it was remodeled. There were only a few other people at the museum that day so I waited upstairs for a family to finish looking at the cars then crawled under a 37 Cord 812 to take pictures of the chassis. I still have the pics and one of these days I'll build some of the 1/12 AMT kits I have and detail the chassis correctly.

HEADERS BIG BLOCK MOPARS
slantasaurus replied to LURCH426's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Its pretty safe to say that Landy didn't run that style header on his Dart in 68 or 69 seeing as it was the mid-90's before TTI was the first company to make anything other than fenderwell headers for a 383/440 A body Mopar. -
HEADERS BIG BLOCK MOPARS
slantasaurus replied to LURCH426's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The Lindberg Color Me Gone 64 Max Wedge kit has the only set of Mopar headers that are close to correct that I know of. The Landy Dart has headers but they don't have the right bends to them, if you've ever seen BB Mopar headers you know they look different than other makes. The front ports (cylinders #1 & 2) make a turn and go rearward before dropping down. -
Exelent job !!! I might have to try converting one of these kits into a Dodge.

Good question, the drag cars that used cam driven fuel pumps didn't use water pumps because they usually ran on nitromethane or methenol and didn't need cooling systems because they were only driven 1/4 mile at a time or sometimes a little longer on the dry lakes or salt flats.
-
Zen as always you thought of almost everything......except a roll of dimes for pay phones.....no cell phones in 62.

Let's see your geegaws!
slantasaurus replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't have pics but the reciently reissued Revell/Monogram 40 Ford Pick Up has a nice set of tools, wrenches, pliers, screwdriver, and 4way lug wrench. -
Andy, Andy, Andy......do you really think they had billet alluminum belt driven fuel pumps in 1962 ?? There were camshaft drive mechanical pumps but they were made for Hilborn style injection. You would need some sort of alternator or generator to keep from draining the battery, a magneto or distributor could be used. Also, when you scratchbuild your CB radio remember it would have been powered with vacuum tubes so its gotta be BIG and heavy, it will suck a lot of juice, and it won't have much range. Oh, and only a handfull of truckers even used them in 62 so there won't be many people to talk to..........and you'll need an FCC license.

So, just a normal week on MCM.... -
Ummmmm...yeah, sure.

Carroll is like George Barris, he'll sign anything you put in front of him.... -
But larger cars don't have the same size brakes or engines as small cars.......they're larger too. Do you really think a 1500 Porsche is gonna out accellerate a 413 cubic inch Max Wedge ?? The Dodge might weigh 1000# more than the Porsche but it also has more than double the horsepower.

Where are you going to find an early 60's 23 channel CB radio ??

When I was planning this Cannonball I figured there would be several Tri-Five Chevys, maybe a few 32 Fords but never did I consider that there would be 2 356 Porsches entered. Nobody has entered any pre-war cars yet, how can we have an American Graffiti Cannonball without any Street Rods ? Keep surprising me guys, we have an interesting group of cars and builders.

Yet another Mopar question
slantasaurus replied to imatt88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just be sure to use the air cleaner from the 71 GTX kit, the 69 Super Bee air cleaner wouldn't be correct with the rectangular pan. I remember someone on this site saying they were mastering a set of steelie wheels to cast in resin in 1/24 for the 69 Super Bee, maybe they will speak up again and sell or trade you a set.
