The Gumball Rally- GUMBALL HAS STARTED
slantasaurus replied to Nick Winter's topic in Community Builds
Let me give you guys an idea of where this Shelby Charger is going.....I cut up the chassis of the kit years ago, I also started scratchbuilding a new frame for it. I think what I'm gonna do now is something halfway inbetween the two. In the first pic you can see the cut up chassis' front subframe and the old scratchbuilt frame. In this pic I placed a stock chassis from a different kit just for compairison. What could he have in mind ???? -
The resculped nose looks like its coming along Patrik. The grille on the 1:1 Ace looks a little taller than the Cobra maybe you could open up the bottom a little more to make it look a little closer. Other than that it looks like the sanding it smooth should finish it off.

5 model cars or trucks you wish were made.

1) 1935/36 Auburn 851 Speedster. One of the most beautiful cars ever built and all we have is the old Pyro/Lindberg tooling, one of the worst ever. 2) 1975-77 Chrysler Cordoba. OK, this one is personal, I had one, my best friend has one, my grandparents had one. 3) 1960\61 Chrysler 300 F/G. The last cars with fins that looked good. 4) 1968 Barracuda. Make 1 version as a 340 Formula S and 1 as a S/S Hemi 5) 1956 Lincoln Continentel Mark II. One of the cleanest designs of the 50's, luxury without the usual 50's excess (except size). -
"Big Drag" could pretty much sum up any Palmer based kit.
-
Basic is being kind to it. It was originally a Palmer tooling and if you know anything about Palmer, thats all you need to know. The body is ok, although the Shaker hood scoop is all wrong. I bought one hoping to use a AMT Challenger to kitbash the rest.....never have bothered doing anything with it though.

Question for the Mopar crew
slantasaurus replied to imatt88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Challenger SE package also included an overhead "information center" which had a low fuel light, seat belt warning, and something else....The rear window was also smaller on the SE, they used a fiberglass plug in the regular window opening to mount the smaller glass. A vinyl top was required on all Challenger SE's becaus of the window plug. -
I got some work started on the Dart, I was expecting the 64 chassis to drop right in but when I fitted it I found a few places where the 2 kits don't match up well. So a little cutting at the front and rear and it did fall into place. The front is going to need some more work but this time I'm going to have to cut into the body, the radiator core support is going to have to go. Thats not a bad thing as I didn't like the round posts molded in place, but the depth of the grille surround is also going to have to be shortened. I've already checked and it won't cause any problems with the grille and will probably make the underhood area look better anyway.

The Gumball Rally- GUMBALL HAS STARTED
slantasaurus replied to Nick Winter's topic in Community Builds
OK guys, count me in. Even though I'm running the Cannonball Run I figured I could build something else at the same time for the Gumball Rally. I've had the idea for this build for a long time and this is the perfect place for it. Here is my Dodge Shelby Charger, I thought it was an 85 but when I pulled it out I have 84 written on the box. I'll be combinding parts from 2 kits. Plans call for use of the 2.2L engine, though I will probably add a larger turbo and an intercooler.....and maybe a few surprises. -
K-Mart has lost another customer.

It is pretty common, here in IL I think you have to be 18 to buy spray paint and in Chicago they outlawed selling spray paing at least 15 years ago. If I want to buy paint I have to go to a suburb to get it.....and from where I live that is only 4 blocks away, but those are the laws here.
-
"Pie crust" slicks would be correct for a early to mid 60's dragster, by the late 60's early 70's the wrinkle wall slicks had become the norm.
-
Just happened to me about a half hour ago....
-
Does anybody know if the stock Gremlin X srtipes are included in white ???
-
The chassis of the 62 would be identical to the 64, the Lindberg kit just has better detail.
-
Actually, its a later reissue Dart in an original box so I don't have the custom parts and I'll be building it in all its Exner glory.
-
I have to dissagree with you, the first "modern" AMT/Ertl kit to feature a platform style interior was the 66 Nova SS which came out in 1988. Also, I just finished building a mid 70's Ford Carpi II a few weeks ago, also an AMT kit that featured a platorm interior although I will atmit it was not the norm at the time.

Here is my ride for the 2012 Cannonball..... I'll be using this as a chassis/engine donar.... and I'll be using these resin pieces I've been holding on to for just a project like this....
-
I think I've found my Cannonball car.....I had to resort to Plan B already. As I was thinking about this build I kind of had my 62 Chrysler 300 in mind for this build. I pulled the kit out a few days ago and realized that the person I got the kit from had started sanding the "Chrysler" trim off the front fenders and I wanted a stock look for the car. I can't really complain, I did get the kit for free......but now I'll need another when I'm ready to build it cause that one is gonna be a mild custom. I need to get the desk cleared off and dig out a donar kit but I'll post up some pics soon...
-
I'll say OK on the tires but like I said, you might want to turn the lettering toward the inside so they look closer to vintage, white letter tires were still a few years off.
-
We can have more than 1 62 Chevy here, there sure were a lot of them on the streets in 62....
-
I would hate to steal an entry from another CBP, but its your call.
-
I don't have a list put together right now but I have a little of everything in my stash, I'm sure you'd find something you'd like.
-
Sure Andy, that isn't to far along to join in. Just post a pic of what you have and you're in.

Its almost time guys, so lets get the Cannonball Run 2012 started. Some of you already know, but nobody seemed to understand my clue yesterday....Wolfman Jack was a big part of the movie American Graffiti and that will be the theme of this years Cannonball. The advertizing for the movie asked the question "Where were you in 62 ?", since 2012 is the 50th annaversery of 1962 it makes sense to go with it. I didn't want to do the whole apoccolipse thing and besides there seem to be a lot of kits that fit the build era for this that are out right now. You don't need to build a car from the movie, just any car/truck built to a 1962 styles. Here are the list of rules for this build. 1) First rule, as per Jantrix, this is all about having fun. 2) All cars/trucks, equiptment, and build styles must be circa 1962. Period correct Street Rods, Finned 50's iron, Kustoms, solid axle Corvettes, or anything else you can think of that might have been on the roads in 1962. 3) No Rat Rods, please. Rat Rods are actually a modern creation if you ask people who were around back then they will tell you that things weren't done like that. Primered, unfinished Kustom and Street Rods are OK for this build if you choose but leave the rusty, crusty stuff for another build. 4) Build starts January 1st, 2012 at Midnight EST and ends November 30, 2012 at Midnight EST. I know there are a few Austrailian and maybe Europian builders, you'll have to do your own math on that....lol. I am also going to institute a cut off date of October 1 2012 so that it makes things fair to everyone. This will give people at least 2 months to build and keeps anyone from joining at the last minute to try and steal the show. 5) You must show a picture of the kit, collection of parts, or rebuilder that you are starting with. If possible try to post at least 1 update per month even if it just says "I haven't finished any work, but I'm still here...".I won't disqualify anyone for not posting enough updates, but it keeps people motivated and helps everyones projects move along. 6) On December 1, 2012 I will start a new thread in the "Under Glass" section for everyone to post their finished entrys, you must post their to be included in the voting. On December 8, 2012 I will start a new poll thread in the "General" section of the forum to let everyone on the forum to vote for their favorite builds of the American Graffiti Cannonball Run 2012. For the first time ever there will be prizes for the Top 3 vote getters. I have a large stash of kits that I know I'll never build and I think I can afford to give a few away for all the great work of our forum members who take the time to compete in this years Cannonball. I will send out a list of kits I have available to the winners and you will be able to choose a kit that you like best. 7) I may make a few exceptions to rules regarding tires on some builds. Obviously, no modern 20+" low profile wheels/tires will be allowed but I might let a few Radial tires slip through if someone uses a GT Radial because it is the right size or fits the wheel of your build. Whenever possible, please turn the lettering of these tires to the inside or use the versions without lettering to make things less obvious. Another exception would be any upgrades of older cars to 12Volt electrical systems, this modification would have been done on some cars in 1962, so if you put a 12V battery on your Hundon Hornet its fine. Not everyone has a parts box with 6V batterys and lots of tires to choose from, I don't expect somebody to have to place an order with a resin caster just to get period correct tires. I think that just about covers the rules, if you have any questions you can post them here or PM me anytime durring the build. Have fun, put on some Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Booker T & the MG's, or whatever oldies you like and lets go back to 1962.
