Nascar, ya like the new car?
slantasaurus replied to rel14's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know where you think any kind of connection between Ganassi and Evernham ever existed. Richard Petty Motorsports was what Evernham Racing merged with. Ganassi was one of several teams that did sign on with Dodge when they returned to Nascar in 2001. Dodge said last year when Penske signed with Ford that they wanted a top tier team to sign up, Ganassi is FAR from a top tier team. If Ganassi was the best they could do they would be better off leaving Nascar completely as they already have. -

The biggest problem is that the best looking Gen 6 car isn't even on the track....... -
I'll volunteer to be a biased judge........I can be bought. PM me for an address where you can send me kits or my Pay Pal info for bribes.

There were both ribbed and non-ribbed timing covers in 1:1 back in the day. Pretty much any Dragster or Funny Car kit will have the kind of timing cover you need. A ribbed on will be harder to find, I'm not sure of any kits that have one. The Ramchargers F/E dragster might have one (not sure mine is back in Chicago so I can't look) but the engine in that kit isn't the best.

From Round 2's Facebook page: The MPC767 1/16 Richard Petty 1973 Dodge Charger kit is molded with an opaque "Petty Blue" body as opposed to the clear body produced in the original release in the 1970’s. After several attempts using various types of p...lastics and injection tricks, we were not able to achieve the quality or durability we needed in order to produce the kit with a clear body. The reasons being, the age of the tooling in conjunction with the recent backdating work we had to do, to recreate the stock car body details. The difficult decision was made to mold the body in opaque Petty blue instead, which looks very attractive. The packaging has been updated accordingly and there is no mention of the body being molded in clear. The chassis/motor/interior parts are molded in grey, similar to the original kit.

The only thing that these associations really create is another licensing fee for Revell to pay for. I would rather see them spend that money cleaning up older tools and updating them or used on new tooling. Even better ask yourself, would you rather have Revell put more money in Chip Foose's pocket or spend that money on licensing Good Year so that we could have kit tires with sidewall detail again.

Isn't this the sixth Cannonball now ?? Check with Jantrix on that.
-
For modern Chrysler Hemi's you left out Revell's 2006 Magnum SRT which has the 6.1 Hemi. There is also the AMT 2005 Chrysler 300C with the 5.7 but that engine is VERY poorly done with the exhaust manifolds attaching to the side of the engine block instead of the cylinder heads. Another source for LT Chevy engines would be the 2005(?) Cadilac Esclade from AMT, but I've heard that engine is also poorly done like the 300C's Hemi. I've never seen one in person so I can't say for sure.

Nice build Niko. Since I wrapped up the Cannonball I've been working on the same kit. The Revell kit is based on the restored Chi Town Hustler which does use an alluminum KB Hemi, the original CTH used an iron block Hemi since the KB engines weren't introduced until the early 70's. I think the original car did have the iron block painted orange.

The results are in. For the third time Zenrat is our overall winner of the Cannonball with his 60 Chevy panel truck. (What can we do to stop the Blizzard from Oz ???) Second place goes to Lunajammer's beautiful Kustom 60 Corvette. Its been a long time since I've seen such a nice period kustom. Our third place finisher this year is first time Cannonballer W409 with his 57 Chrysler 300C. I think the numbers and flames on his car drew the attention of a few law enforcement officers slowing his cross country run. Congradulations to all the winners and everybody that was part of the Cannonball Run 2012. I probably won't be part of next years Cannonball, not because I haven't enjoyed it but because my building is somewhat limited right now and I'd like to focus on some other builds I would like to finish. If things change maybe I'll jump in with a late entry, we'll see how things go next year. I'll be contacting our three winners to give them a list of kits to choose from and working out detail of where and when I can send them out.

The votes have been coming in and while the polls aren't closed yet it seems we have a Landslide winner. Second and third places are still up for grabs though. I've sent out a few PMs to get some more votes and if anyone else would like to weigh in I'll put out a last call before closing the poll and announcing the winners tomorrow night. As for the winner.......can you say Three-peat ??

OK, I think I figgured out something that will work. I would like to have the 8 people who finished their builds PM me with their votes. I thought that BK Customs finished his 62 Impala but he PMed me back that he had problems with his paint and didn't actually finish. I will also chose a few other forum members to help in the voting. At this point that seems to be the most fair way of doing things since the public poll didn't work out the way I wanted it to. Thanks again for making the Cannonball Run 2012 fun.

anyone remember Gordon Shumway?

You might want to go to www.Cracked.com and read what they have to say about the show ALF, it will change your whole perspective of the show. http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/why-alf-most-tragic-fictional-character-ever/ -
Since the poll didn't work out the way I intended I've been thinking of another way to finish things off here. An announcement will be made soon.
-
Really, I didn't have to offer any prizes at all. Look at any of the other CBPs on this forum, are there any others that even offer even 1 prize ?? If the kid you know joined only because of the promice of prizes then he is building for the wrong reasons and is bound to be dissapointed at some point. I suppose I should have offered prizes for everyone who joined because they're all special snowflakes.

There seems to be a problem with the poll. When I was posting it, it would only allow me 5 options so I had to add the other entries as a second "question". It seems that the poll wants people to vote for 1 person in each section which isn't really fair. I'm going to lock it now and figure out what to do next.
-
Cool build John........The only thing I'd change is to make the engine tilt to the right a little.
-
The poll is posted. Here is the link: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=67514 Because of the difficulties of getting the prizes from home, I'm going to limit it to the top 2 vote getters instead of 3. Good luck to everyone. BTW, the Dart will get finished, hopefully in January when I get some stuff from home.... Thank fot the offer Rob, if I had realized I need them I would have asked before we met at the Pinellis swap. Or I would have bought a cheap built up to use as a donar. I didn't even think about the exhaust system until I was too close to the end.

This years Cannonball Run CBP moved from the other site to Model Cars this year and its time to pick the winners !!! Your vote counts. Everyone who finished their builds will be posting pics of their cars/truck here or you can look through the Cannonball Run 2012 CBP in the Comunity section of the forum.

OK, I've already sent out some PMs to people who have finished and will send out the rest soon. I will be starting a voting thread in the Under Glass section tomorrow (after I get home from work....). As I stated at the begining of the Cannonball, there will be some kits given away. I'll let all of you know right now that it will be a little while before I'm able to send them out though. When I took over the Cannonball for this year I was living in Chicago now I'm living in Florida.........but the kits I was planning to give away are still 1000 miles away in Chicago. Thats part of the reason my Dart didn't get finished in time, my parts box is also still at home and I forgot to bring a few things like.......mufflers for my build. I attempted to scratchbuild some but didn't like the results and decided it was better to delay finishing the model than build it and not be happy with the results. Anyway, in about a month my parents will be coming to Florida and I'll have them bring the kits that will be given away. Its just going to take a little longer than it would have if I had them at hand. Once the winners are decided by vote I will contact them and we'll work things out as to what kits to send, where, and when they will be sent. Thanks to everyone who has been involved in the Cannonball Run this year weather you finished your builds or not. I've enjoyed moderating it and my decision not to continue wasn't based on anything dealing with moderating it. After making the move this year I've found myself without a model workbench for the first time, I've improvised as best as I can but until I have a bench set up my modeling is going to be limited/compromised. Jim, I use a kitchen utensel "Lazy Susan" for all of my Evergreen, brass, and alluminum rod. My mom bought 2 and gave me one to use when I said I needed something for all of my stuff.

Ebay tonight

You didn't over pay for the kit, might be slightly under market value for the H&M version but it was reissued in a regular box in the last 10-15 years. The reissue would go for no more than $30 now. While it is a cool kit, from what I understand the fit is very bad. I have one of the reissues from a few years back but haven't started it yet. -
While there are still 2 hours until the deadline I thought I would chime in now. Well done gentlemen, there are some very nice entries for this years Cannonball, ALL of you have built some great models. My 62 Max Wedge Dart will not be among those competing for the title this year though. I guess I can still wave the green flag and hop on a DC-3 and head out west to wave the checkered flag. I'm still deciding on how I should wrap up this years Cannonball. One thing I do know is that I will not be in charge of a Cannonball for 2013. I really hope the Cannonball continues without me as you are a great group of builders and this CBP has been a lot of fun for everyone the past few years. I will let everyone who has a finished model know what the next step will be in a PM this weekend. Thank you again to everyone involved in the cannonball Run 2012, even if you didn't finish your model, I really enjoyed seeing all of the different ideas that have been posted in this CBP.
