Possible 1968-70 AMX from Moebius?
Sport Suburban replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
My guess is only 30% of the tool could be reused from 68-70 Javelin to AMX. The parts that would stay the same are all engine parts, radiator, all the separate front suspension parts, and all the separate rear suspension parts. The exhaust, driveshaft, and chassis plate would have to be different. The only parts of the interior that would stay the same is the dash, steering wheel, front bucket seats, console if offered and windshield. The main tub would be different as the AMX has no back seat and rear window is different. The only body parts that would interchange would be the bumpers. But if the front grill is molded to the front bumper it would be different. Hoods are different. Depending on how the taillights are molded they would be different also because of an emblem. Wheels would be the same but why not offer different wheels while you are at it. This does not account for year differences. 68 AMX vs 68 Javelin and 70 AMX vs 70 Javelin. If you go 68 AMX to 70 Javelin than everything body and interior will be different. -
I'm betting it is the same as this version released about 10 years ago when the remake movie came out. It did have a few different parts. It has a new two piece dash, front bumper without guards, a new hood (it was different than the yankee hood with the hole). The hood was the same style just more boxy looking. I prefer to fill the hole in the yankee hood. It also had rallye wheels and Hemi style valve covers for the 440. This kit was released after the Vanishing point kit and had all the new parts as well.

Historic Racing Miniatures Cobra Daytona Coupe
Sport Suburban replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That is them that is for sure! I have seen them in person. Is that the final display of them at the museum in Salt Lake? -
Since this thread started a few years back, I finished a 69 Javelin SST. I have almost completed a 70 Javelin Mark Donahue special. Plus I stared a pair of AMXs (69 and 70). I would love to see more!

The decal sheet is very nice and may be why this kit is so much. For a while nobody had Trans Am on the decal sheet. Even the Revell kit was missing them. My older kit of the 79 Trans Am anniversary kit, it had decals that had the entire alfabet in the font so you could make it say Trans Am on the car but it was the way they had gotten away from the licensing but still giving us the decals. Also remember GM paid licensing fees to the SCCA for every Trans Am they sold. GM never owned the rights to the name!

I built one many years ago. The Jimmy Flintstone body is an RT/SE with the small rear window and vinyl top. It is not the cleanest casting and will require some work and thinning. That is to be expected with a Flintstone body. I'm pretty sure the shaker hood does fit the body but I did not use it. I don't believe the rest of the body has any corrections that I can recall from the AMT body. I can post pics of mine after I get home.

I just bought one of these a few months ago. I must say it is an impressive kit and if you can afford it then it is worth it. I have wanted the kit for some time but it was really expensive at close to $400 at the time it came out. I just paid $245.00 buying it directly with shipping because the Japanese yen is so low right now. It took less than a week to arrive. I have not built it yet. The only other offering was from Mini Exotics and it has not been available for some time. They show up on ebay from time to time. I had one of those kits and it is not as nice as the MFH kit. It also is not complete and requires a donor Monogram 427 Cobra and no decals.

difference b/t '68 Dart and the '69 Dart bodies
Sport Suburban replied to fiatboy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The body's will interchange and all the 68 parts will fit it. The 69 kit is harder to find since it was not reissued. The 69 kit was the first issue of this tooling. It was modified into a 68 Mr Norms GSS Dart, then issued as a Dick Landy 68 GTS Dart and last the 68 Hemi Dart. So the 68 body should be easy to find. Keep in mind the first Mr Norms 68 had a vinyl top. Dartman is correct that the marker lights are different. But if I remember right the 68 Hemi Darts did not have front marker lights anyways since the used fiberglass fenders. -
Very nicely done! I have one of these MPC Cyclones kit bashed also with the Revell Torino. It has stalled because I just could not decide on a color. The green with the vinyl top is really cool.

Questions about AMT 67 Barracuda and MPC 68 & 69 Barracuda's
Sport Suburban replied to VW93's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I don't know the full story of the tooling, but the kits are from the same tooling. It would be difficult to backdate the 69 to a 67. The 69 has a peak on the hood that matches up the front grill mounting panel. The grills are different shapes and the rear tail light panel is completely different. Modelhaus offers the chrome and tail lights but not the rest. I know Modelhaus offers a conv 67 body. If you are looking for a 67 Barracuda. I may have one for sale. -
Yep. It had the Falcon dash with the long more rectangular looking speedometer, not the later round one. Friend had one in high school, another friend had a 67, and I had a 69. Those were the days. Russ That is correct. But the kit has a separate cluster that is on the chrome tree. The 64 convertible and the stock 65 GT350 use one style. The 66 GT350 has a different gauge cluster but is in that kit. Also the race 65 GT350 kits have a race only gauge pack!

I don't know why it has not been issued in kit form. All the parts exist. When I built mine the white stripes were hard to find. Mine are Fred Cady but one of the last 66 GT350 kits had white stripes in it. BTW. Only 4 original 66 GT350 convertibles made in 66. I plan to build another one in blue. Only parts the real cars had that the kits don't have is AC! All 4 converts had AC. Shelby did commission some continuation converts later on in the late 80's or early 90's. I have a list of the four original convert serial numbers, 6S2375 Green/gold side stripes, supercharged auto. 6S2376 Yellow/white side stripes, 10 spoke wheels, 4 speed. 6S237 Red/ white side stripes, 4speed, chrome wheels. 6S2378 Blue/ white side stripes, 10 spoke wheels auto?

Revell discontinued Del Rio wagon.
Sport Suburban replied to kingiguana's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My LHS sold out of the Del Rio in days along with the 71 Ranger. To my surprise and theirs, they still had 2 of the 69 F100s. So I got one of them. Same thing happened with the Revell 70 Hemi Cuda. I got one of the first ones and it was so hot I traded mine away for a vintage kit I could not pass up. Funny part was that when the 2nd batch came out I grabbed one right away. I noticed that Revell fixed the 7 cylinder distributor that the first batch had! -
ARRRRRGHHHHHHH.. Just Missed this!
Sport Suburban replied to impcon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One day we will be paying that price for that 68 El Camino kit and bragging about the deal we got! It could happen, look at what we were paying in 2010 verses the new kits today! On the second eBay add! You have to read the description! Apparently the last buyer thought it was a real hood! -
'70 Chevelle kit - Revell vs. AMT
Sport Suburban replied to atomicholiday's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I have only seen the street burner issue of the Baldwin Motion version. I don't think it has been issued a second time but may have had a second run of this tool with the same box. I know that is a modified reissue of the Monogram 70 Chevelle SS 454. I believe it was first issued in the early 80's. -
Also a little piece of trivia. Did you know that the Superbird is the only Mopar that the 426 Hemi was available in that did not have any engine badges anywhere on the outside? Every 2nd gen 426 Hemi car had either 426 or a HEMI badge somewhere outside except the Superbird!

Nice project! I have built two of these and they are good kits. I built my first one close to 30 years ago when this first came out. My only mod was changing the wheels for rallys from the TA Challenger kit. My second one I built recently and still added the rallys. I also cut the exhaust from the rear axle separating them and adding rear shocks.
