nascar race / Demolition Derby
peter31a replied to clavender17's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not a big Brad fan either but I think if JJ wins a 6th championship in 7 years it won't help Nascar whatsoever. Boring!!!... I think though, Brad is the closest to the Intimidator that we've seen in over 10 years. He races hard, he's smart and he will play tricks on the competition Like coming out from pit road in front of JJ immediately as soon as he passed the line to allow him to go up into the racing groove Threw JJ right off (this was a few races ago - forget where) He will be champion if not this year then soon. Danica was having a great race until Burton tagged her. She was in 13th place. I believe she still finished better than her boss. -
VW Drag Car Info
peter31a replied to FASTBACK340's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
John, I wonder if you started at hotvws.com and go from there. I think they're the leading VW mag in the U.S. so maybe you can find useful info there. -

Magazine. Had one in the SA Contest Annual a few years ago and dragged that puppy around to show to anyone who would look. I've won a couple of awards but while special it just wasn't the same thrill as seeing the truck first on SA website and then in the Annual. Ummm..... Harry, unmarked bills or Paypal?...... -
It's cute whatever it is. Barbie's first sportscar?

Beautiful! Hope my 48 Fords can look near as good when I get around to them.

is the new issue out with buds builds?
peter31a replied to Tom Kren's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good question, Tom. I believe I saw referrence to it a few weeks back. I've had a subscription for a few years but this year it has gone off the rails. I never received issue 167. I had to call Golden Bell Press to get my copy. I received 168 no problem then a long while late I received 170. It was then I realized I did not receive 169. Had to call GBP again to get 169. Now 171 is MIA. I'm afraid if I call again they'll think I'm running some kind of scam. Not to mention the cost to make the phone call as the 1-800 is U.S. only so it's a long distance phone call. If this keeps up I may have to drop the subs. Sorry to hijack your thread. -
Hi Sam and son! Welcome to the forum. Lots to learn here from a great bunch of people. Hope you both enjoy your return to the hobby.

Sweet! Love the lime green suede! Job well done. -
Sticking another 2 cents into this discussion. I think the amount of effort/scratchbuilding/3Dprinted parts thing would only start factoring in when the judges have narrowed the field down and are trying to decide the top three. For example let's pick custom category: You have 5 vehicles that have flawless paint, no glue smears, no fingerprints, great bare metal foil, all 4 wheels are touching the ground, etc - you can't find fault with any of the basics of model building. That's when they then have to start looking at what else has been done to the model. Is this custom basically box stock versus a one that's chopped, chanelled, fabbed parts etc. That's when level of effort comes into play. That's why when entering a contest it's important to fill out the form and point out the extra's you've done to a model. Because as much as you would like every model judge to be a walking data bank of every model kit ever produced and of every real car produced, it's just not possible. They are human and are doing the best they can to come up with fair results.
