  1. Magazine. Had one in the SA Contest Annual a few years ago and dragged that puppy around to show to anyone who would look. I've won a couple of awards but while special it just wasn't the same thrill as seeing the truck first on SA website and then in the Annual. Ummm..... Harry, unmarked bills or Paypal?......
  2. It's cute whatever it is. Barbie's first sportscar?
  3. Beautiful! Hope my 48 Fords can look near as good when I get around to them.
  4. Good question, Tom. I believe I saw referrence to it a few weeks back. I've had a subscription for a few years but this year it has gone off the rails. I never received issue 167. I had to call Golden Bell Press to get my copy. I received 168 no problem then a long while late I received 170. It was then I realized I did not receive 169. Had to call GBP again to get 169. Now 171 is MIA. I'm afraid if I call again they'll think I'm running some kind of scam. Not to mention the cost to make the phone call as the 1-800 is U.S. only so it's a long distance phone call. If this keeps up I may have to drop the subs. Sorry to hijack your thread.
  5. Hi Sam and son! Welcome to the forum. Lots to learn here from a great bunch of people. Hope you both enjoy your return to the hobby.
  6. Love 40 Fords! That one is really sweet, Dave!
  7. Sweet 50 Olds! Job well done sir.
  8. Sweet! Love the lime green suede! Job well done.
  9. Sticking another 2 cents into this discussion. I think the amount of effort/scratchbuilding/3Dprinted parts thing would only start factoring in when the judges have narrowed the field down and are trying to decide the top three. For example let's pick custom category: You have 5 vehicles that have flawless paint, no glue smears, no fingerprints, great bare metal foil, all 4 wheels are touching the ground, etc - you can't find fault with any of the basics of model building. That's when they then have to start looking at what else has been done to the model. Is this custom basically box stock versus a one that's chopped, chanelled, fabbed parts etc. That's when level of effort comes into play. That's why when entering a contest it's important to fill out the form and point out the extra's you've done to a model. Because as much as you would like every model judge to be a walking data bank of every model kit ever produced and of every real car produced, it's just not possible. They are human and are doing the best they can to come up with fair results.
  10. I think it's too soon to ask that question as contest judges probably haven't run up against that problem yet. My gut feeling is that the physically scratch built part would take precedence unless the builder could prove he actually designed the parts that were 3d printed....... I dunno really.....
  11. Saaweet! Love the satin look. Very well done model.
  12. Great build, Jason! Like the colour choice. Very sharp.
  13. Welcome back to model car building, Larry. You should check out NNL Detroit. Info should be available in the contest area here on the forum. Many great vendors there and some nice eye candy (model car builds) to check out too. Edit: Here is the flyer: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=63740
  14. Great work, Richard. Keep building those hot rods! And welcome to the forum.
  15. That was my reaction as well. We are inundated with sports channels (at least here in Canada we are). Speed was the only dedicated to automobiles. Perhaps it was far from perfect but I would rather Chop, Cut Rebuild and the like than another stupid hockey, baseball, football, socker or golf game! I have no use for traditional sports and like you pay extra to get Speed, now I'm stuck with another stupid sports channel.
  16. Was nursing assistant in Mental Health facility for 14 years. Worked my way down the ladder to become a driver in the transportation department of the same facility for the past 17 years. Drive a Freightliner box truck to move food, laundry, meds and other supplies throughout the campus.
  17. Sweet Ferrari! Great colour choice.
  18. Love it! Beautiful build. Great vintage hot rod.
  19. I love it when I actually know the answer for a change!
  20. Good luck guys! Not going to be there this year. Hope all goes well and everyone has a great time.
  21. Wow! Chuck! You did some realistic weathering to that Dodge truck.
  22. Everyone does it differently. Some guys drag the same models out year after year. Most shows won't accept them if they've won something the year before. The view I've heard most often is the model being on the 'circuit' for a year so in other words your 48 would retire in time for next year's Wing Nut con.
  23. Very nice. Great job on this road racer.
  24. Very cool rod! Like the choice of paint colours.
  25. Wowzers! That is very good Chuck. Definitely a basket case of a fixer upper.
