  1. Duplicolor markets primer in both lacquer base and enamel base. If you get the wrong one, you will get a big surprise when you paint over it......
  2. There are a couple ways to simulate this. One is to use "Faux Fabric" paint, and then paint over it with your chosen color. Another is to prime, then paint it with 'overspray', holding the can of paint at arms length and 'spritzing' the part with short bursts of paint until you get your desired result, then painting your color of choice. Another is to use hairspray, using the spritz method. I know there are other techniques, but these have worked for me.....'Z'
  3. Yep, did a radical chopped top, windshield laid back, body sides re - sculpted, wheel well modified, 72 Chevelle and sent it to the resin caster, wher it 'languished' for a year...And then a similar vehicle pops up on this forum, as a '2014' Chevelle ? And I KNOW he didn't copy it, sometimes things just happen !
  4. I paint everything....nothing like having bare plastic show up where you least expect it, it CAN ruin your day.....'Z'
  5. RMR is in business and going strong ! Ray Parsons just passed away. Ray and his wonderful wife Ruth, were the R and R in R&R; No word on where Ruth is going with the business yet....'Z'
  6. This is a great out of the box kit, and is a good example of a 'back halved ' car. Only thing that's not representative ( IMHO) are the cast iron exhaust manifolds, Should have had tubular headers. And while there IS a seam on the exhaust cross over, that pipe SHOULD BE THERE !....I'm planning on building this right out of the box, with the exception of flipping the front spindles.....'Z'
  7. I'm not knocking your modeling skills, but if you painted it without test fitting everything first, maybe you should re think your technique. My son Charles built this kit in the middle 90's when he was about 14, all 'Dad' did was advice on paint - his 2nd or 3rd model, still got it tucked away for posterity...14 years old, 3rd model and he had no problems, just sayin.......
  8. I have owned maybe 20 of these, along with their companion panel ( sedan?) delivery, but I cannot think of ANY reason, other then fond memory, to buy this instead of any of the Revell 40 Ford kits....which are superior in every way to this kit. If you're building for other reasons, that's OK....but if you want an accurate 40 Ford IMHO go with the Revell kit / kits....'Z'......
  9. Oops....forgot to mention the body is a Ron Cash casting, and it's pretty nice !
  10. This is one you don't see built too often. Good job !...Did you run into any problems in fit while assembling ? I have this kit with a resin chopped body, never got around to starting it....maybe you've motivated me....
  11. I would be interested in this with the AUTOMATIC trans ! Headers or exhaust manifolds too, even though I know they may be application specific....If I'm going to put this engine in an older Chevy, the exhaust port spacing does not match up to the older manifolds or tubing headers....'Z'
  12. Most aftermarket products suppliers I have dealt with estimate 3 or 4 weeks turn around on an order. Any thing sooner is a plus. I have dealt with Rick since before he opened Scale Dreams. From what I have seen, he has ALWAYS gone the extra mile to make the customer happy. I had a hundred dollar wheel order from him lost by the Post Office( allegedly stolen from my mailbox) He had no responsibility to cover it, and he did out of his own pocket. In my book, he id tops.....'Z'
  13. I have found that the slots in my miter box had too much play, with as much as 15 thousandths variance in length of cut pieces. Bought a new box and saw; same thing. I corrected it by sliding a steel mechanic's rule down between the blade and the box, and everything was cut the same length. Make a habit of always placing the rule on the SAME SIDE of the blade....Works fer me !
  14. Tom, you sure those who approached you weren't from Homeland Security ?....'Z'
  15. Rick has posted in some forums on facebook that he doesn't know what direction the business is going - all current orders will be filled, but at this point, Scale dreams is, for all intents and purposes, shut down.
  16. Not only did I buy a lot of his product, I consider him a really - really- good friend. I remember the first time he was vending, at the Detroit NNL, we talked a LONG time....'Z'
  17. This is one of my favorite sites. Having said that, I am plain getting TIRED of seeing someone post a question and getting CRUCIFIED by all you self righteouus poop heads on here. Can't you just be.....NICE ?
  18. Oh, cme on, give it a break....There were a LOT of vehicles on the show circuit looked like this in the 70's - just like bell bottoms, shirts open 3 or 4 buttons, with W-I-D-E lapels, puffy sleeves, and high heeled boots....And a lot of you were THERE, bro !......DON'T try to deny it....'Z'
  19. Sam, i would be interested in seeing a complete pic of that custom stude....
  20. I had a Paypal account, we kept a minimal amount in the bank to keep it active, and would deposit enough to cover our purchases. We got hijacked several years ago, and Paypal has never resolved the issue - kept giving us passwords that never worked....Therefore, I won't use it.
  21. Oldest of eight, I'm a PK (preacher's kid). My father is Henry Charles Zimmerman the 17th, going all the way back to Baron Heinrich von Simmerman, 17 generations ago. I was supposed to be the 18th, Dad didn't like the name. Said I would be named after him ONLY if I was born on my grandfather's birthday......missed it by 9 hours.
  22. My first models i bought myself at the local hardware store, a 2 in 1 kit with a small ( maybe 2" long ) PT boat and a cabin cruiser and a small 'egg' of glue , cost me 49cents. Didn't know how to open the glue, so I held them together with vaseline. About 1958. I built planes, but graduated to cars when my 6th grade sundat school teacher bought me the AMT 32 ford 5 window for having perfect attendance....Maybe 1962....'Z'
