  1. In my opinion, the best detail is that which you add yourself And I don't mean that as a smart alec answer....
  2. Interesting. What I read here, seems to be the same thing I heard my parents say about the Beatles, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, et al.And the same thing our grand parents said about our parent's music in the 40's and 50's. Same thing with the 'saggy butt' pants....Don't like em, but i remember how MY parents reacted to bell bottoms, suede boots, and long hair - And my grand parents reaction to engineer boots, tight blue jeans, white t-shirts with the cigs rolled up in the sleeve, sideburns andslicked hair....shall I go on? And our grand parents had their zoot suits, flappers, 'honky tonk' music......
  3. Welcome! I'm about 90 miles north of yez, in Meadville Pa......Steve Zimmerman aka the'Z'man
  4. Race motor replicas offers cowl hoods for both of those trucks.
  5. I'm with Harry on this one, do it all the time. May not be quite as strong, but if you scuff both parts, it works.
  6. Monogram made a 39 woodie?
  7. I have a bottle, seems to work well. I prefer the line of Meguiar's products, myself.
  8. Meat loaf. Pizza....twice baked potatoes...I've cooked everything on the grille I do in the oven in the kitchen...'Z'
  9. Modelhaus offers a 65 Chevelle sedan delivery, originally done by Mikes Miniature Motors and based on the AMT 65 Elky. F&F offered a 64 Chevelle 2 door wagon based on the AMT Elky, and a 65 Chevelle wagon based on an AMT 65 Chevelle roof, upper quarters and tailgate from an Elky and a Revell 65 Chevelle Z/16 body.....'Z'
  10. Black, when thinned and airbrushed, covers VERY WELL, without obscuring detail. I would try barefoiling the whole panel, masking, airbrushing, then carefully buffing the paint off the lettering....
  11. For an engine, as a starting point you might think about thnon stock Hemi that came in some of the AMT 'Prp Street' kits, with a scratchbuilt / kitbashed injection system for 'eye candy' appeal.... (Also, fuel injection is a better choice, and fits the 'Pro Touring' thing....'Z'
  12. Harry, you have made a 'career' about correcting the rest of us. You 'might be' wrong. Take your medicine, and be a good boy. Seriously, get over it (EVERYBODY !).....'Z'
  13. Can it be done?...yup. Would I do it ?....NOPE !
  14. Nothing I say can take the pain away. Ray was a good friend for 20 years, and I will miss him. Good bye, Ray....
  15. If you actually think about it, a model is reduced to (for sake of comparisom) 1 /25 the size of a real car.Now think about paint. When you use clearcoat, and / or polishing compound or pads, you are reducing the size of the orange peel. I'm not saying you should / should NOT clearcoat or polish, but a finish reduced in scale, will shine more than the 1/1 paint it's supposed to represent, am I correct ?
  16. I cast a resin piece so thin once, it only had one side !....Dropped it on the carpet, landed with that side down....never COULD find it again.........
  17. Also check out braided elastic cord, in various sizes at your local craft or sewing supply stores, color it with a silver sharpie....or, look at your (and be - uh, DISCREET here)venetian blinds - they have a cord you use to adjust the angle of the blind, and usually have 2 or 3 feet you can trim and use for braided line....Having said that,Pro Tech is the most realistic and easiest to use of the aftermarket stuff I have seen....'Z'
  18. Sometimes you can test fit forever, but when you hit final assembly, you get the dreaded 'one wheel in the air' syndrome....get out the shim stock and fix it !I have also found a 'slightly warped' frame can be glued in place and sits on all 4 wheels...Bottom line, there's no one single sure fire way to fix this, just trial and error.
  19. Chris is in the hospital ?....I hope the hospital recovers......(GRIN)
  20. I have a project like this on the bench, using carbon fiber decals....yours looks pretty interesting !
  21. I have mastered somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 model car and truck bodies that have been cast and offered for sale to the public, and probably another hundred seats, interiors, frames, dashes, hoods....etc. In most cases the master was placed in the hands of a caster, and I was compensated, either in resin copies, or cash. Once those masters were out of my hands, they were no longer my property....Someone else casts a copy, it's really not something I worry about. Now, I'm casting and marketing my own series of wheels - someone buys a set and casts them, I really have no recourse...Do I like it?....no. Am I going to lose sleep over it ? Hardly, that's just life. As an aside, I have personally heard some of the biggest names in the casting business scream bloody murder at someone possibly casting versions of their product, while quietly casting someone elses 'stuff' themselves.....I sorry it happens, get over it, go on with your life....Steve Zimmerman
