Taillights and Blue Dots for taillights
Steven Zimmerman replied to unclescott58's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
At places like Michaels, Jo Annes, etc. Look for small bags of blue sequins, about 2 bucks a bag..... Check the bottom of the clear bag; in the packaging process the little 'punches will show in the bottom ( sometimes a LOT).....These make PERFECT scale blue dots; coat the tail light with clear, place your blue dot where you want it . The slow drying clear will let you move them around and adjust. Let dry, then coat the entire tail light, blue dot and all, with the clear again. I use 'acrylic' clear, because of it's slow drying time......'Z' -
It was brought to my attention
Steven Zimmerman replied to futurattraction's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I have been making masters for about 22 years, and have had some 60 plus car / truck bodies cast by reputable resin casters and offered to the public, along with 100 plus masters of seats, interior buckets, hoods, frames, etc. (Actually, I lost count years ago ) In almost all instances I am familiar with, the caster returns the master to the master builder, although not all. Most take a fresh casting from one of the first few produced, clean it up , and that becomes the 'new' master, thus starting with a freshly cast piece with no worries about deterioration of the original master. Therefore, a LOT of casters do NOT have the original master on hand. This has changed some, in the past few years, but a lot are still following that procedure, IMHO...........Steven Zimmerman -
The Flintstone body and the RMR body are based on the same toy. The Flintstone body is a direct cast off the to, no windshield, or glass cut outs, no headlight cut outs. RMR cut out the headlights, grille and the openings for body glass, cast the grille, side view mirrors and scratchbuilt the headlight housings and includes a promo type frame. It's all that is available, and I spent over 2 years searching to find the toy, (Thanks, Jeff) As to the scale, it looked pretty close, so it got cast. Feel free to buy two and fix the scale, if you so desire - I, for one, am just glad it's available...........'Z'

Dumb questions: CA glues
Steven Zimmerman replied to clovis's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I buy the 4 tubes /1.50 at Walmart, and I buy 4 packs at once. I probably use 2 tubes a week, in my model car hobby. Been doin this for probably at least 10 years, and have no problems, other then the same problems you get with any other. -

37 Chevy COE car hauler
Steven Zimmerman replied to crazyjim's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
RMR also offers two 37 Chevy conversions for the AMT kit -. a roadster with pancaked hood, prowler windshield, widened molded in fenders, running board 'delete' and a slightly laid back grille. Also a chopped 3 window coupe with the same features as the roadster.................'Z' Sorry - 'PIE CUT' hood.... -
65' Olds F-85 stuff
Steven Zimmerman replied to hedotwo's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Ray Parsons used to offer both a 64 and a 65 cutlass, and Bandit resin offers a 65, I believe. Ray's was rough, especially the bumpers ; Bandit is nice, but last time I talked to Kenny Shores, he said the mold was shot..........'Z' -
Such a bummer: Chinese-built Craftsman tools.
Steven Zimmerman replied to LDO's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Actually, until the mid 80's most Craftsman hand tools were made by Channellock, inc. I worked there for 32 years. Sockets and adjustable wrenches were produced elsewhere, but for years, only difference between Channellock and Craftsman pliers, lineman, wire cutters, etc....was the name stamped into the handle....... All that changed when they went almost exclusively to Chinese mfg tools. Channellock Inc. is the ONLY family owned manufacturer of hand tools left in the United States. -
Air bubbles in Alumilite resin

Jeremy, I fill the mold with resin, then work the areas I know might have bubbles with the brush. -
Home resin casting....
Steven Zimmerman replied to kitbash1's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Alumalite also markets a resin under the 'AMAZING RESIN' name, which (A) sets up white instead of tan ( has a longer pot life and © seems to be less prone to air pockets. Hobby Lobby carries both products; the 'AMAZING RESIN' can be found in the craft section with candle and soap making products.....'Z' -
I have found flat black resists fingerprints, and also is more durable, if you give it a flat clearcoat.....

My wife has dabbled in ceramics, paint by numbers, macramé,wreathes, and a bunch of other things, but mainly she makes jewelry( and does a dog gone good job of it, too ! She tried building models; built two mustangs and took a couple trophies, then quit (????).... We enjoy travelling to Hobby Lobby, Pat Catans, and a lot of the other hobby / fabric stores together.Otherwise, we would kill each other ( GRIN )......'Z'

Pull cords on those outdoor rattan blinds, and adjustable venetian blinds, both have anywhere from 6 to 20 feet of cord that looks exactly like braided line, and can be 'colored' with a silver sharpie. Even brand new (ahem) they have enough excess cord, you can swipe a couple feet, then re knot the cord.....'Z'
