  1. The problem I have with most of these techniques?...While some really good ideas, would not SCALE salt be more on the consistency of talcum powder?...Or not...(grin)...'Z'
  2. Possibly the primer is not totally cured. I always let my primer dry several days before sanding and painting. And I use the same paints- Duplicolor lacquer primer (stay AWAY from Duplicolor enamel primer, avoid it like the PLAGUE !) Now, having said that, someone will say their enamel primer is god's gift to mankind, however I stand by my statement. Krylon seems to change their paint formula every time you turn around, so be aware of that, too.........'Z'
  3. Did you sand the resin?
  4. Your statement is a perfect example, and - to the best of my ability, as my eighth grade English class taught me, some 50 years ago , this is how you might have typed it..... "Okay, I have a question for those complaining about how do people write stuff ? Do you spell everything you write correctly, use the correct version of certain words; use correct punctuation, capitalize everything anytime you write, spell, or email someone or post something?"...Sorry, in spelling, correct punctuation and capitalization ALONE, I have come up with10 incorrect uses of those in this paragraph, and I didn't even address other issues, such as sentence structure. And I will be the first to tell you, I make mistakes....but I do proof read before I post, and there IS an autocorrect, and I use it.
  5. Where did you get those rear tires?
  6. Most of my builds aren't stock; so I build wire hinges and have a hood that tilts toward the front. One other trick I do, is to 'bury' small magnets in the top of the firewall and the radiator supports, and embed small pieces of wire in corresponding grooves in the hood, so it stays shut when you want it to.
  7. Hmmmm....Lotta people didn't like the 63 split window when it came out either. OR the 68 styling....or the new Camaro....life goes on.
  8. Toss that idea, save up and get a compressor. You will thank us later by showering us with large amounts of gifts ..........'Z'
  9. I asked Carol this at NNL East, during one of those rare moments when she wasn't running her keyster off, filling orders ( and while I was dropping about 250 bucks there myself. Her answer? She said she and Don both work 60 to 80 hours a week " on the job', DON'T HAVE TIME for pictures....And I understand her point....'Z'
  10. On the exhaust, look long and hard at the 'vette system; it has possibilities....'Z'
  11. Apparently my attempt at humor fell fell flat. Let me be blunt. This is my favorite forum. Are there better out there ? Maybe...Are there worse?....Definitely....Do I care ?...Nope. I think everyone of us owes Gregg a BIG thanks for what he does for this hobby - AND us -And if you don't like the way things are done, don't let the door hit you in your....kiester. Frankly, I'm tired of hearing some of you whine, bitch, and just plain BULLY people when you think things aren't being run to your satisfaction.....GO !....LEAVE!...Start your OWN cottin pickin forum, maybe you might - MAYBE- find out how much time, effort and skill is involved. 'Nuff said..Steven Zimmerman
  12. um....I don't GET any 'pop - up' ads here; should I feel slighted?......And James, glad to see yez; I've been here for years, and on the other forums too...'Z'
  13. My second car was a really nice 65 Galaxie 500, with a 352 4 bbl dual exhaust and auto trans. I have fond memories of that car.
  14. Also, keep / store the master, so that you can pour another mold when one goes south. I have drawers full of masters, already affixed to their boxes , ready to pour. I know that some of your major casters just spray the mold with release, and the molds last a long, long time.
  15. For 90 % of my needs, I use superglue; either the thin stuff, or the thick stuff, depending on application.....'Z'
  16. Those wheels are cast, assembled and marketed by me, through Race Motor Replicas, Glad you like them! I hope to have 250 sets of wheels available at the RMR tables in Toledo at the NNL this fall, in about 25 different styles....Steven Zimmerman aka the'Z'man
  17. Thanks, Bill ! I have figured out most of these things myself, but you delved into it a little more deeply than I did. Obviously, there are a lot more things we can do with this kit, even it it's a 'dinosaur" (grin) You can pick these up at swap meets for a song, and they are a treasure trove ! Also, the Beach Boys / Rockin Rods version has a 'Vette IRS, while out dated now, this rear axle found it way under HUNDREDS of street rods in it's time....This is what this hobby is all about !..'Z'
  18. If you are going to ridicule my command of the English language, you could at least use correct grammar yourself; 1.e. the word 'of'. Also, I would respectfully look up the word 'should' and see how the use of it applies to your comment. And, again...I stand by my comment. Build the way you want; don't castigate ( is that word to big for you?; to use your phrase) Don't out others down for building how they want - not how you think they SHOULD. I'm done with this....you want to continue, go join IPMS.
  19. Matthew, you said" if one wants to take the time to add extra detail, then the builder should at least take the extra time to research the project and get it CORRECT ! " I rest my case.
  20. Actually, I think the ISSUE here.... Is WHY do people think they have a right to tell someone else HOW TO BUILD ? Some here have said they won't build something halfbleeped....fine....but it's not your business to decide whether someone who wants to build using some detail has to meet your exacting standards! You want to be "your own worst critic"....fine, but that doesn't give you the right to be everyone else's worst critic too?
  21. I want SEVERAL of the Vegas....'Z'
  22. As per Art's observation, I scribe my door lines more deeply, and I carefully drag a folded piece of 600 grit wet or dry through the lines, to soften , or 'round' the edges....Been doing this for 20 years !...'Z'
  23. As far as firing order, you can purchase distributor caps (1-1) now that have 4 wires on the left, and 4 on the right. I actually used to carry a magazine ad with a picture, because people would point out the 'incorrect' firing order on my models. And most of the newer cares don't even HAVE a distributor, but 8 separate coils and 8 short plug wires...and then there are the crank driven trigger distributors....'Z'
  24. The one in Sharon, Pa. does, but limited selection. I buy a lot of other hobby related stuff, tho and I think there's one in Pittsburgh, off the Mars exit....'Z'
