Clearing with duplicolor over plasti kote
Steven Zimmerman replied to Kaleb's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If it is a solid color, I don't clear - it will polish out just as well as with clear. And when i do clear, i never cross - mix paints, even if they both are lacquer, or both enamel. For me, ALWAYS Duplicolor over duplicolor, krylon over Krylon, etc. You may try other mixes, but why take a chance ?....Follow the manufacturer's reccommendations ALWAYS, IMHO....Even if it works NOW, you may get a reaction months or years down the road ( speaking from 40 plus years experience....)...'Z' -
You're gonna take some heat over this un, I'm thinkin......

Yep, I missed my fix too. I like both this magazine and Scale Auto, I think the competition keeps both mags on their toes and gives us as customers a better product. However, I TOO find Scale Auto's online site hard tonavigate, so this site and the Message Board of Tom's are my coffee companions first thing every morning.....'Z'

Actually, statistics show that accidents PER MILE DRIVEN have gone down for several years. And there were a lot fewer drivers on the road then, the speed limits were a LOT lower and today's vehicles are about a thousand percent safer. -
Great model, and great job, but is it a Vista Cruiser, without the 'Vista' roof ?

R&R Resin still pulling bodies?
Steven Zimmerman replied to JDS Racing's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I have heard from a reliable source that Ruth is in ill health, and Ray is SERIOUSL talking about retirement. Ruth, his wife, pours most of the resin, while Ray handles most of the rest. I had the opportunity to visit his shop for several hours, a couple years ago It's sorta like that 'American Picker's program, only all model car or pre 32 Ford related......just plain amazing ! -
Replicating my 1:1 Chevy HHR (using RMR's new resin)

Google Race Motor Replicas..... -
Google Race Motor Replicas; should pop right up.

Excuse me . 'AN HHR'...not 'A HHR'....it's early.....'Z'

Flintstone and RMR both do a HHR. RMR has the windows cut out, seperate headlight inserts, grille, and rear bumper. Jimi's is a pop of the toy, as far as I can tell. They both offer a panel.

Why do people do these things?
Steven Zimmerman replied to mnwildpunk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
On the 15th of December, the Post office claimed they delivered a package of model car 'stuff' to my mailbox. Now, I was home that day, saw the mail delivered from my front window(10 feet from my mailbox) and immediately went out and got the mail, within 20 seconds of it being delivered. Their 'investigation'claimed it was stolen from my mailbox, case closed, not their problem.....So, someone hid around the corner of my home, sprinted to my mailbox, stole a model car size box from my closed mailbox, and got out of sight in the 10 second window of time between when I saw the mail delivered, and the mailbox was in my sight again....yeah;.......RIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT ! -
2015 Chevelle Concept now Under Glass
Steven Zimmerman replied to customsrus's topic in WIP: Model Cars
It's funny how having the glass mocked up makes such a visual differance. That and the door line change work (IMHO)...Still interested in seeing it with the side window shape changed, bit it works well 'as is'....'Z' -
2015 Chevelle Concept now Under Glass
Steven Zimmerman replied to customsrus's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I think you've done a great job, but no matter how many times I look at it, I come to the conclusion that the roof is to low and too long.changing the shape of the side window may make a differance, and i think if we could see it with the front glass in the look would change. I like where you're going on the tail lights,...'mimics' the 70, but differant. Will be interesting to see the grille finished. -
This is as much a mid winter" come outta hibernation' B.S. session as it is a swap meet. Probably the most low key, laid back event i have ever had the pleasure of attending...Hope to see a bunch of old friends, come....on....DOWN !....'Z'

First time at Resin molding ...
Steven Zimmerman replied to GeeBee's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Take a small cheap paintbrush and 'smoosh' it down around andc on the lug nuts after you fill the mold with resin; helps get rid of air bubbles (arch nemesis of lug nuts)....'Z' -
How to make wire screens for intake systems
Steven Zimmerman replied to curt raitz's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I alsouse a magic marker on my photo etched seat belt buckles, emblems, radio faces, etc...cover the whole photo etched piece with magic marker (dries quicker / thinner than paint) then polich with the BACK of a piece of wet or dry sand paper. Then clearcoat with acrylic paint, like Polly S or something similar. Don't use clear lacquer or enamel; it willlift the magic marker. I have done the same thing to hub caps with emblems or words(specifically 30's FORD caps)fill in with marker, then GENTLY polish off the excess marker. If you're carefull, you won't affect the chrome....then wax the cap with 1/1 car wax to protect it.... Works for me.... -
How to make wire screens for intake systems
Steven Zimmerman replied to curt raitz's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Storm door mesh works, but is a little too big(IMHO, buy the real fine mesh available at hobby shops, works better / looks more in scale Try to stay away from copper or brass, by the time you paint it, it clogs up. Magic marker works better than paint....'Z' -
How to make wire screens for intake systems
Steven Zimmerman replied to curt raitz's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I did this by taking a drill bit the size I needed, drilling a hole in a quarter inch piece of steel, placing the screen over the hole, then reversing the drill bit and lightly tapping it into the hole to cut the screen. Most drill bits are chamfered on the non drilling end, and put a nice convex(or concave) shape to the screen. I place the steel piece on a block of wood when making these; you can make mulitples of the screen pieces, all exactly the same, and then slowly force them out of the steel piece with the back of the drill bit. I have about 50 stored in a small film cartridge ...CAUTION....they have a tendency to take flight....'Z'
