  1. it's a hobby. sit back and enjoy it!
  2. http://www.richiehavens.com/official_site/home.html always a fan. felt betrayed when he went to work for "the Man" aka McDonald's. forgave him, and continue to enjoy his music & politics.
  3. you'll put your eye out
  4. i loved those guys! http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gSB6JweP0CA/TueWcIXCXHI/AAAAAAABBjw/KAQwxBnV03I/s1600/smothers-brothers%2B%25281%2529.jpg
  5. that combination of body & frame is trick. keeping that in mind for the future; i have a couple of unbuilt kits in both flavors.
  6. you'll also need a bigger workbench
  7. this is the 'plausability engineering' which i think is so important yet sometimes lacking in an otherwise well built model.
  8. how would the computer climb the ladder to get the paint off the shelf? and why wasn't the company standing by waiting for me to call?
  9. well worth the read
  10. maybe here: http://www.archertransfers.com/AR88036.html i think 14" in 1/48 scale would make 7" in 1/24. or you could check out their other sizes. i don't know if you would lose the relief by going up in scale. may end up just like bumpy paint??? or you could try this: http://automodeler.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=features&file=view&artid=1240
  11. it doesn't "have" to be, but i think sometimes production time is hampered by periferal pursuits. also, a mini fridge with Hagen-Daz withing arm's reach is a bad idea, too.
  12. does common sense enter into the research column? if a scale driver couldn't, something is not right.
  13. there was mention* a while back about "gaskets". this is an example, in a small scale, where i think a head gasket adds a great degree of interest. we know it's not scale thinkness, but it does serve to identify and define two separate assemblies. nice touch. well, along with the other dozens ... any chance of getting a look at the driver's side? * don't remember the thread.
  14. that's going to be good looking. build thread?
  15. has anyone ever used silver paint as a barrier coat on odd colored plastic? years ago i sealed some bleeding cedar siding with silver radiator paint and then used conventional latex (years ago - no acrylics!) as a topcoat and it worked out fine. i didn't think of this; credit goes to Henry.
  16. definitely a labor of love
  17. there now seems to be bookends on the question, with the rest of us somewhere in between. creativity is certainly the key to any hobby. the amount of money spent on something is not always in proportion to the pleasure derived. but it sure is fun to get new stuff and learn new skills. i think the beauty of any hobby is that there are a myriad of interpretaions of the derivative "FUN" . or perhaps we're merely all just a bunch of frothers! http://frothersunite.com/wotsthat.html#frother
  18. why not start a R.I.P. Margaret Thatcher thread?
  19. killer mill
  20. isn't Photoshop a fairly cost prohibitive program for the occasional user?
  21. had no idea she was a Mouseketeer
