Had a mate say the same thing. Old Skylines and Datsuns were notorious for rust, so the build is a good reflection of the 1:1's 🤣 Thanks Stu, would have preferred the shiney clean look, but still happy with the end result. Its a fun technique with no stressing about the paint work.

Always enjoy building these kits from Aoshima. I chose to build my own version using some of the optional parts from the kit and used these wheels. I had some issues with paint work and after stripping the paint decided to go a different route and do a rusty styled build for a change. So I dedicate this build to Dr Cranky an old forum friend who loved his rust. Also some ideas and inspiration came from Low Standards Jay Skyline Work in progress Opened up the molded in grill detail and replaced with photo etch mesh. I 3D printed the engine and scratch built the bay building upon the chassis plate inner guards. As per usual on my over fender builds, Top Studio rivets were used. Hopefully the professor approves of the amount of pictures and the angles they were taken.🤣

C110 Skyline is nearly complete. Just need to install the radiator and hoses and do a final once over check and prep for under glass pictures.

Thanks Mathias. Interesting idea with the beach sand, might have to go down to the local swamp and grab a small container of sand. I have a mixture of table, ground, rock salt and baking powder. But I will need to take out some of rock salt, Before I try again. Thanks Brian. Its a very effective technique. Going to be fun with further experimenting to see whats achievable and if it can be improved. Thanks Bob, was very interesting to see the result once the salt was removed. Definitely will be trying again on another build. Thanks Anton, as ive mentioned it was interesting and good fun to try something different for a change. I used rust colours from this set, its an older version. But im sure it is still available, just with new box art.

BMF Glue Residue Removal
Cool Hand replied to Horrorshow's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Enamel thinner or polishing wax. Have seen others recommend lighter fluid. -
Well done tribute. Interesting to see the FnF R34 styling applied to the R35. Excellent idea and it looks great.

Something I seen recently was a Japanese Magazine that has build offs with a particular make or manufacturer eg Nissan Skylines. Was incredible to see all the different ways people built the various makes.

Thanks Les. -
After the salt dried out. The lesson I learnt, dont apply as much. But use more of the fine grain table salt. Paint stages. Not bad for a first attempt, was a good learning experience and a foundation to build upon.

Thanks Stu, Webers are so much cooler than Su's 😄 Thanks Bob, the triples certainly fill out that side of the engine bay. Thanks again Bob. I love building model cars, I have so many kits and idea's its hopeless for me to stay focused on one at a time 🤣

Thats what caught my attention was the larger center hole as I have some wheels with larger than normal hubs and I have yet to find some rotors to suit. -

Always excellent quality products. I can print my own stuff, but I like Texas 3D Customs designs and the print quality is some of the best I have purchased. Thanks Charles.

Order from @Texas_3D_Customs x3 SBC, Blown FE, Blown Pontiac, 8 and 6 cyl distributors and some shifters.

Well thats the thing isnt Pete, we all use different products, equipment and techniques. So results will vary from our own experiences. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is we as individuals are satisfied with the outcome of our own paint work.

Probably because in most circumstances the first coat is light and very thin and might not get full complete coverage, so a second coat medium wet coat is applied for full coverage and being a wet coat it will level out to a smooth finish. No product formulations are the same, so 2 coats would be desirable for peace of mind to achieve full coverage. 🤷♂️

Yep, another vote for titanium silver centers. -
Update for the Nissan C110 Skyline. Decided to take a different route. And try something different that I havent done before. Bit of rust modulation done with the airbrush. Realized when I started spraying I forgot to tape the rear spoiler and front turn signal 🤦♂️ Sealed with a couple light coats of Mr Colour GX 114 flat clear. Next up will be the salt technique🤞
