I was looking at two bodies that I had, the Revell 1968 Mustang and the AMT 1967. They were both the same scale and yet not much was interchangeable. The roof heights and widths were off, and some other things were slightly different too. They measure a real car, so you would think the models would turn out virtually the same. Is it just the designer's interpretation or artistic license? I noticed the same thing a while back between older kits like AMTs Pacer and Pinto and MPCs versions. Either way, I like the cars, it just made me wonder. I'm not criticizing either, it just seems odd that they can vary by a fairly good amount and yet still be good representations of the same car.

I've got the Gälendewagen Paris Dakar, Land Rover, two versions of the Renault 5 Alpine rally, the VW Golf rally and somewhere the Ranger Rover Paris Dakar.

Anyone know if the rumor that they have ESCIs old tools is true? I have one Gelandewagen to build, but I would love to have another. Also the Range Rover and their really cool 70s-80s rally cars...

I'm looking for inspiration. I plan to build a model of one of my uncle's old racers. This is the only picture I have. It was built and raced around 1960 or so. He was involved with racing from the 50s into the early 70s. He mostly built Chevrolet's, but with the occasional Ford and even the odd Pinto or Volkswagen Beetle mini-stock. Anyone have pictures from that time period they care to share?

It's been a good while since I've done this kind of math, but if I did it correctly, it turns out to be 1/7.57th scale. 18' 22" is 18.92' X 12 = 227.04. Divide that by 30" and it comes out to 7.57.

This is amazing work. I love seeing this kind of thing, seeing how you go about converting and all that. It's funny, I just emailed Greg yesterday about ordering one of his products.

My hometown of Ingleside, Texas was too small for a hobby shop. We had Stewart's pharmacy. They had an aisle of model kits. The Kroger's grocery and the 5&10 had an aisle of them too. I would wander up and down it while my mom shopped and dream that she would let me get something.

How about some nice plush shag carpeting? It works well to hold parts! Lol

That should work. I wonder if the 67 Fairlane chassis would work as well? I can't remember for sure, but I think that the 64 Fairlane may have slightly tubbed rear wheel wells. Probably not tubbed enough to worry about though. But something to check out.

To me, it's more of a curiosity as to why they are doing this. I haven't bought a Ferrari kit in years. Not since the early 2000s any way. The 1980s 288 GTO is still my favorite.

Last summer I asked the local store to stock this magazine and they said they couldn't. Today I finished canvasing the B&Ns in the Austin area today. None of them had an issue in stock, though they all said it was on the list of things they could carry. They all said to check in weekly, that they never knew what magazines would come in when. I did mention that I had been asking B&N corporate to follow up on availability for me, so maybe they will be more likely to carry it regularly. If they can carry 15 different RC plane magazines, tons of model train magazines and all the wood working stuff, I think that a few model car magazines is not too much to ask! We'll see. I do know that bugging corporate tends to yield results, so I'll keep up with that.

Since Moebius has released one of my choices, I would now love to see a new tool of the various 1957-1966 Ford trucks. I would also love to see the MPC annuals gradually backdated with interchangeable tooling inserts so that they could be released periodically in different year models not just the last one that it was changed to. Some of the Malaise-era cars would be nice too. Pintos, Vegas and Monzas, Oh My! Maybe a nice Cordoba or Ford Fairmont? Yes I know this just proves I am old.

You might try this for the stars.... Hobby Lobby sells an Alumilite two part mold putty that you can use like Silly Putty and then it hardens out into a silicone mold that makes a good mold for surface details. I use it whenever I need to copy a piece of trim or a nameplate or something.

I just remembered I bought the two different kit versions with the idea to build a copy of my 1:1 US market 1989 Escort GT. I decided it was beyond my skills to convert it and then not too long after I was behind a Semi truck that lost the entire rear wheel set that holds up the trailer. It bounced and squished my poor little car. Kind of lost the will to try.

I went to the Mother In Law's, She Who Must Not Be Named! over the holidays and I do indeed have the AMT and the Revell US versions of this car. I was going to bring them back and grabbed the wrong box. It wasn't all bad though. The box I brought had two of the Revell BRE 510s and two Revell Golfs (Golves? Nah), one the street custom and the other the Valvoline racer. I'll see what I can do with those.

I was thinking how it would be cool to a Chevy Dually with the yuuuuge gas tank in the bed! I used to do fantasy Cannonball type cars as a kid. I really loved my 1980 MPC Trans Am with the driving lights on the front and the gas tank in place of the back seat. It's now been re-released. I need to recreate that one of these days!
