  1. I grew on the Texas coast, so I remember the older guys driving around with the back jacked up with wide tires and mags on the back and stock wheels and hubcaps on the front. And being in a rust prone area, there were the obligatory spray can primer spots and Bondo. And the JC Whitney mail order or local Western Auto chrome parts.
  2. Great pictures.I like to uild pairs when I can, so I bought two of the Monogram '40 Ford pickups. I converted one of them back to stock using the parts from an AMT '40 Ford car. Not 100% correct, but close enough for me. Sorry, guys, wrong photo, guess I don't have one of '40s.
  3. I would love to see the '58 in any and all forms. It used the same chassis as the '57, so I would think it would be feasible. Not sure, but I think the '59 was completely different. I've bought several of the '57 and would certainly buy others.
  4. These are cool. I would love to see conversion kits to build one of these in a stock form. For that matter, it would be neat to have one for the Henry J, the Topolino and the other drag kits.
  5. I wonder if the Monogram 1/24 64 Mustang or the 1/25 Amt 67 Mustang would offer a better chassis or parts for this kit?
  6. I would soooooo like a 2n1 stock and hot rod version, however even just a body would be great. I really love that body style.
  7. Other than severely cut fingers, my only real mishap was at the age of 12 or so. I had gotten an MPC Vega kit from my parents and did a really good job on it, at least in my opinion. Anyway I was so proud of it that I took it with me when my mom went grocery shopping. I put it on the dash. I had painted it black, it was Texas, it was summer and the windows were closed. You can guess the rest.
  8. I could be wrong, but didn't Monogram's other Model A kits.. have the same chassis? If so you might be ale to mix and match.
  9. The AMT '58 and '59 Fords, any wagons, any and all of the MPC annuals from the '70s. And please, please re-release the MPC Datsun pickup truck with all the stock parts... Please?
  10. Let me be the first to say, good job!
  11. I can't post pics, but here is a link to a built-up Typhoon model. http://www.silentthundermodels.com/ship_models2/russian_typhoon.html . If you take away the tower and the fins, you are left with a pretty good shell about 9 inches long. Plus the models are cheap to experiment on!
  12. Correction; The Kursk I bought is actually the 1/700 scale Typhoon sold by HobbyBoss, not 1/350th. These subs are essentially two submarines linked side by side so the hull is wider than it is tall. I think it will just hold a VW or Corvair engine. Incidentally, there are several 1/350 scale subs made by HobbyBoss that make pretty decent tank bodies if you shorten the length a bit. Their LA class and the Soviet Alfa come to mind. They can be found at most hobby stores for $10-15. I would post a pic, but I still can't seem to conquer that technology!
  13. Thanks for the help. I found a 1/350th scale Kursk submarine and decided it would make a cool 1/25 lakester with a boxer engine.
  14. I want to build a VW flat four powered Lakester. Anyone know what class such a thing might run in? There used to be an online page that had the specs, But I lost all my favorites when I got a new laptop. Help? Anyone?
  15. Nice to see a standard workaday van coming along!
  16. Is this kit back in production? I love what you are doing!
  17. I'm torn, I prefer period-correct modifications, but I also like pro-touring. One thing that can be forgiven are modern parts that add to driveability and safety such as fuel injected egines that start and run everytime and disc brakes that stop everytime.
  18. For me it is both nostalgia and an outlet for creativity. If I had the money and skills I would be building the same things except with 1 to 1 cars.
  19. I have been wanting to build a couple of '32 Ford pickups, one stock and one hot rodded. I know that the Lindberg kit is not well detailed, but can the cab and bed be used with the Revell '32 Coupe or maybe the '34 pickup to get what I want? Any opinions?
  20. I just bought one of these. Didn't need it at the moment, but it was just so cool.
  21. Amazing!
  22. For 1/25 I used a fifth wheel from a 1/32 semi snap kit.
  23. Ok, I have to ask, where did the cargo boxes on the roof come from?
  24. Ralph Nader saw an opportunity for publicity and rode it into a career, for better or worse. Bad press aside, if any one thing can be said to have killed the Corvair, I think it would be the difference in platforms. The Chevy II, Falcon and Dart among others made the Corvair redundant. At the time GM, Ford and the others basically built front engine rwd cars. Compact or full size, the general layouts were basically the same which meant shared parts across several product lines, which in turn meant greater profits. The Corvair was essentially a standalone product requiring many unique parts which economy of scale couldn't justify. The Corvair was an attempt to copy VW, down to its suspension. Regarding its handling, in one of my dad's old Road and Track magazines of the time, I remember reading that a swaybar that would have cost very little at the time would have stopped the dreaded "tuck-under" which caused many accidents in Corvairs, VW's, Porsches and Triumph Spitfires.
  25. Another 2015 Mustang with manufacturer's plates and a 2015 F-150, the aluminum one. I still can't post pictures, sorry....
