  1. Thanks for the answer guys. I used to have a couple that I used to make castings off. I'll try to dig them up.
  2. Ooooh! I got a yellow Pisano Vega kit for Christmas one year. I loved that model! You do amazing work!
  3. I recently bought the MPC Dodge Van release ad now find myself in need of some Minilites. I have a 4 lug one that I can cast, but I really would prefer the 5 lug. The last time I bought the Studebaker, many years ago it had some 5 lug Minilites. It doesn't show them on the box and I am reluctant to buy the kit just on the chance they are still in there. Anyone able to shed some light?
  4. That is so cool!
  5. That's tough. I bet they are off Santa's good list.
  6. I have been ambivalent about him for a long time. While indeed talented, he always seemed all too ready to claim other people's work as his own.
  7. A guy can always hope!! lol
  8. When I build, I tend to keep several projects going at the same time. When I get frustrated or am waiting on paint or something, then I switch to another for a while.
  9. I understand that the manufacturers keep an eye on forums like this in order to get feedback.I wanted to thank the guys who made the decision to release the old van models. I would like to see tons of brand new issues every year just like the old days, but I realize that that is not feasible in the current market. That being said, I appreciate the chance to go back and buy new issues of kits that I butchered as a child. I just bought the MPC Dodge Van today. I'll get another couple when they restock. I'm like a model kit Prepper. I buy kits and then store them away for when the modeling Armageddon strikes. It looks just like the one I bought at Woolworth's when I was in school. I already have 3 of the AMT Chevys and several of the 1976 Fords as well. Since the tooling seems in good condition I would ask them to look into reissuing the window versions of these kits. Dare I hope that the 1976 Datsun pickup tooling might still be usable? I built and destroyed more than 5 of these over the years. I would love to have one with the stock building option. How about the Dodge pickup restored to its 1972 configuration? That's just the pickup and vans not to even go into the cars such as MPC's Camaro and Firebirds in all their mid 70s glory or the Caprice in its original 1971 version. Sorry, I was getting greedy. Anyway I really do appreciate what the companies are doing.
  10. The Courier version is on that website.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMT-2703-1-25-Ford-Courier-Firestone-Super-Stones-Mini-Pickup-/272027301248?hash=item3f56173580:g:eucAAOSwwbdWLaXn
  11. Should you decide to mold these engines, I would buy a couple. I have been looking to make a 4BT Cummins for a Jeep project. It is a 4 cylinder version of this engine. It is used in delivery vans and is a popular transplant into Jeeps and light trucks and such.
  12. Wow, that is really nice!
  13. It was not the best cheap V8, but it was the first cheap V8. While the Chevy small block was a good engine, it had many issues that made it less than ideal. What it did have were relatively narrow proportions allowing it to fit into Model T frames without a lot of work, a whole lot of corporate support to get it into the hot rod community and to get aftermarket support. The Duntov letter really gave Chevrolet a lead on everyone else. http://www.hotrod.com/features/history/the-duntov-letter/
  14. Just got the AMT 72 Gran Torino. I really would like the #15 George Follmer decals. Fred Cady's set is gone. Any other options??
  15. I know some of you on here have experience in the business side of our hobby. I was thinking of the '57 Chevy 150 kit the other day and it made me think of others. I have seen how in the days of old, model companies would release several versions of the same car, a coupe, a wagon, and convertible for instance. How come when a kit comes out, they only produce one body style? I love the ones that come out and buy them, but I would love to have, say a Chevy Biscayne or a Ford Custom or maybe a wagon version of some car without having to do a kit bash. It would seem like a logical extension and probably most of the research would already have been done. Is it simply that they won't sell enough? Couldn't they have just cut molds for the other body styles at the same time? Many of the other parts would be the same. Do they get a license for just the one body style or is it a blanket release that would allow them to do the other versions? This is probably an oversimplification. Just curious.
  16. I've gotten some of these and I'll get a couple of the coupes when they come along. I would really love to see a '27 T roadster as well, especially with both stock and hot rod versions, either as a 2-n-1 or separate kits.
  17. I always have used the cheapo Walmart flat tans and greys for base interiors and used military flats for details. Speaking of that you can find a lot of military colors in the hobby shop in both sprays and brush type that look good as interior colors. For interiors that are body color you can spray them with the body paint and then put a dull coat on them. Just my .02...
  18. It is still a great kit and has been re-released a few times. I think the last was a Revell Germany release that they called simply the Offshore Power Boat. I had the original version back when they first came out and somewhere along the line I lost it. The kit is easy to build, seems pretty accurate and turns out a nice shelf model. It measures about 13 inches. The engines are molded into a bucket that comprises the engine room. With a little detail painting they look good. I really can't think of anything bad to say about it except I wish there was a 1/24 scale version to go with the MV Testarossa and Daytona! It practically falls together as they say. Plus it gave me the chance to research all the cool boats on the internets. Now if I could just find my old white linen sit and pastel T-shirt!
  19. I came across this a while back and saved it to favorites. Some of yo may have seen it. It is the restoration of a 1970 Chevelle race car from a rust bucket to original. I was at Hobby Lobby and they had the Pepsi Nascar model on clearance for 8 bucks. I bought the last two they had and a snap kit 1970 Chevelle. Don't know when I'll get to it, but I hope it will be soon. http://www.dirtfans.com/RebirthofaGIANT.html
  20. I finally got something to the point were I can call it done for now. Still a few details left, but good enough. It is the original MIami VIce boat that was released in the mid 80s. Found it in a consignment shop here in Austin along with the followup non MV German release. Bought both for 20 bucks. The Vice boat's decals were to dried out so I had a sign shop scan them and print them on vinyl. The paint is Tamiya. Could have done better on it but I just wanted to get something done.
  21. Now that I think about it someone used to offer a 58 wagon of some sort. Either Modelhaus or Jimmy Flintstone.
  22. The good thing about luggage is that it is easy to scratchbuild. Even a fumblefingers like me can do it. i have used a piece of balsa or bass wood of the right thickness and cut it to shape and covered it with contact paper, with a little detailing, it came out okay. Some of the Tamiya 1/35 accessory packs for military figures will have duffle bags and such that can be used as well. Also Hobbylinc has this, though it shows out of stock, you might search by stock # and find some. http://www.hobbylinc.com/preiser-assorted-luggage-model-railroad-building-accessory-g-scale-45218
