  1. I've always assumed you all know about this, so I never mentioned it. If so please feel free to mock. For years I have been using the plastic For Sale and Keep Out signs as stock for scratchbuilding. They come in a couple of sizes and some times you can find different thicknesses. They have printing on one side, so you have to work with that, but to me it's no biggie. The best part is they are pretty cheap and the 18x24 size are great for doing siding on a trailer or a building front. I even used one sheet for a vacuum form project. I've also found some signs in a really thin steel that is pretty flexible. Plus if like me you live in an area without a lot of hobby stores, you can find these at any hardware store or Walmart. Anyway, there you go.
  2. Wild Bill's Hobbies carries it in the Dallas area. Unfortunately, I can't drive 3 hours very often...
  3. So glad to ear this. I will check tomorrow. They haven't had it before. I really hope they have it now. The closest hobby store that stocks it to me is 3 hours away in Dallas.
  4. I've managed to get some. The 75 Firebird Formula, the Manx Dune Buggy and the 76 Datsun Truck and most of the ones that have been reissued in the last few years. I still want to find most of the 70s era MPC annuals, especially the Pintos and Vegas. If MPC/AMT were to reissue the old annuals, I would be sure to pick up all of them.
  5. You might look at one of these. I bought one years ago and turned it into a stock 2-door wagon. The body is accurate, needing only a repaint and with the wheels and some other parts from the parts box it ll pass for a stock wagon. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SLAMMED-JESSE-JAMES-1957-57-CHEVY-NOMAD-STRAIGHT-6-WEST-COAST-CHOPPERS-/201442783349?hash=item2ee6ecf075:g:EG0AAOSw42JWEal-
  6. This is really cool! Nice work! Is that a kit?
  7. Looks good!
  8. I didn't finish anything this year. I did start a bunch of kits and I made a huge mess of my work area. I actually thought I would have the Dajiban and the Datsun truck finished well before Christmas. Then I messed up the van paint and had to redo it and lost the front suspension and radiator for the Datsun. The Outlaw Boxter is waiting on mirrors and inspiration for the taillights. The Jaws Blazer is stalled and the Jaws 2 Jimmy is not cooperating. On the plus side, I have a good start for 2016! LOL!
  9. I have noticed that it can weaken the joints on old tube glue. Haven't noticed any effect on epoxy and not much on super glue types, though it does seem to weaken it a little.
  10. You can go for a safari look. I can't seem to post pictures right now, but you could do one up in a Camel Trophy look.
  11. Not many Hummer H2 models I guess. When looking for inspiration, I always do an image search on Google for ideas. https://www.google.com/search?q=hummer+h2&biw=1525&bih=709&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwiPvp63xvrJAhXzjYMKHfsAAXQQ_AUIBigB&dpr=0.9 Lots of them out there in 1:1. Most are kind of cheesy with rubber band tires, but there are some cool ones too. It just depends on what you are looking for. You might also look at the stuff done to other vehicles like the Rovers or Gelandewagens for ideas.
  12. I look forward to seeing more. I love local short track and Sportsman type cars so much more than the Nascar type! I just wish there was a website specializing in photos of local short track type cars.
  13. S.C.o.T Flathead V8 or Ardun Ford would be great, as would be an early Cadillac or Olds option if they are determined to push a GM powerplant.
  14. I would still like the option of a street stock version. The other thing I would really like is a 40s-50s Bonneville/Lakes style car with vintage speed parts. A Doane Spencer building option would be great as well!
  15. No kits as such, but I did get $50 dollars to buy what I wanted. Plus I got to go through my kit stash which is at my MIL's house. There are a whole bunch of kits put away in boxes that I had forgotten I ever bought, so it was almost the same thing! LOL
  16. It does indeed have a good 6 cylinder in it. I used some leftover hubcaps from the Black Widow 57 Chevy.
  17. I would love it if they would/could do a census on all the molds. Take them out and see just what is there. Maybe they already have, I don't know. The other thing I wish they could explore is doing what Polar Lights did years ago with the old Universal Monsters and retool molds based on an original copy.
  18. I plan to purchase a couple of copies of this kit. Are there pictures of other racers who used this platform? I haven't found any yet. Also, I am thinking of using one as the basis for a Nova sportsman on the order of Dale Earnhart's old racer. Suspension and engine would probably be different, but would it otherwise be viable?
  19. First model? Great job!
  20. I'll be following this. I just saw this kit in the hobby store and almost got it. Now I'll have to go back!
  21. I recently found an eBay built-up of a kit that I had as a child. It is the MPC Datsun Pickup. It had been built poorly and painted with what seems to have been automotive touch up paint over the bare plastic which scarred the plastic. I've been sanding and priming for days and just got it smooth enough to repaint. With any luck I'll soon have an inexpensive recreation of a kit that I destroyed long ago. Hopefully, I'll take better care of this one!
  22. Ten or so years ago, one of the die-cast companies made a series of cheesy Walmart/Jesse James customs to tie in with the Monster Garage fad. Most of them were pretty bad, but at least with a little kit bashing, I got a 1/25th 1957 Chevy wagon out of it. Just wish I had bought a few more now!
  23. The model companies have to do what they have to do to in order to survive. They need money to produce kits to sell in order to make money to put out kits. It's the whole circle of corporate life. While I would love to see them be able to partner with GM, Ford, or Chrysler and release a whole string of new models every year, that doesn't seem likely at the moment. Let's face it, the model kit target market is aging and a younger group of builders doesn't seem to be knocking down the door to get in. Kit manufacturers are becoming, in effect, a niche market. One that I really love, but there you are..... They have to break out of that. Revell is trying a different direction to see what happens. We need to support them by buying kits and also support their efforts to widen the market. Just my humble opinion.
  24. I really love these! What scale are they?
