I finally got something to the point were I can call it done for now. Still a few details left, but good enough. It is the original MIami VIce boat that was released in the mid 80s. Found it in a consignment shop here in Austin along with the followup non MV German release. Bought both for 20 bucks. The Vice boat's decals were to dried out so I had a sign shop scan them and print them on vinyl. The paint is Tamiya. Could have done better on it but I just wanted to get something done.

Miniature luggage for model cars
oldcarfan replied to khier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The good thing about luggage is that it is easy to scratchbuild. Even a fumblefingers like me can do it. i have used a piece of balsa or bass wood of the right thickness and cut it to shape and covered it with contact paper, with a little detailing, it came out okay. Some of the Tamiya 1/35 accessory packs for military figures will have duffle bags and such that can be used as well. Also Hobbylinc has this, though it shows out of stock, you might search by stock # and find some. http://www.hobbylinc.com/preiser-assorted-luggage-model-railroad-building-accessory-g-scale-45218 -
Help, I've Gone Off The Wagon!
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually the Del Rio was another of my purchases. I have a weakness for wagons! I have also been working (slowly) on a Miami Vice Scarab boat that I got at a consignment sale. I found and bought one of the non-Miami Vice versions they had as well. I paid a lot to have a local sign shop to duplicate the decals since the originals are not usable. Ahhh, reliving my youth! -
Stock Model A Wheels Ideas?
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for all the comments. I can see how these would be hard to copy in resin! Alan if you PM me an address, I would be happy to send a money order for whatever the expense would be. -

I wonder if Styrene Addiction Center has a hot line? It probably redirects your call to Model Expo or someplace like that. LOL -
Stock Model A Wheels Ideas?

For what it is worth, I also did the 1934 Ford pickups the same way. -
Stock Model A Wheels Ideas?
oldcarfan replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the interest. I like to build two models at the same time. I built two of the Revell 29 A Pickup closed tops as stock and hot rod variants. Now I want to do the open top in the same way. -
Help, I've Gone Off The Wagon!
oldcarfan posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It has been a while since I have bought any kits. Living in an apartment, we just don't have the storage room, much less building room. That being said, we went to Dallas a few weeks ago and I stopped by Wild Bill's Hobby. It is one of the old line hobby shops, the kind you just don't see anymore. I got a couple of kits and then when I got home, I found the reissued F150 Ranger kit at King's here in Austin. Later I found another at Hobby Lobby and since then I've gotten the 1972 Blazer and a couple of others. My wife hasn't noticed the kits starting to stack up yet. -
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here goes. I would really like a few sets of stock wire wheels and tires of the type that comes in AMT's and Revell's Model A Woodie kits. I have searched but can't come up with any other than buying complete kits. Does anyone make such a thing or would it be cheaper to just buy a full kit? Any ideas would be welcome!

I love it! Wonder how much work it would be to make a stock version? -
Here are the ones I have finished. The orange one was patterned from a picture of the one that came with the AMT 63 Nova. The red and white one was going to be a teardrop cargo trailer and the one in front is a regular teardrop camper. The purple one's body came from the 38? Ford by Monogram so it is only partially scratch built.

This is funny, we just saw a pair of Challengers in Plum Crazy yesterday in Austin traffic.. -
3D printing quality
oldcarfan replied to 59 Buick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The printers will likely become as commonplace and inexpensive as desktop paper inkjet printers are today. I think the delay may come from the other end at least until some form of quick 3d scanner or other easy way of designing the prototype becomes available to those of us lacking design skills. -

I like to build in pairs, so I did these two... One stock and the other a shop truck. Nothing fancy, just curbsides..
