  1. This is fourth time I seem to have had this problem. On my laptop, sometimes, but not always, when I go to this website and try to reply to a post I find that the reply area is greyed out and I can't type anything. It seems to work alright on my phone. I've tried logging on and off and even turning the computer on and off to no avail. Anyone else had this happen or am I just that special?
  2. I've bought several of the reissues of the Monogram 1/24 1980 F-150 to do models of the trucks I've owned. I've done my brown 1981 F-100 Flareside and am working at my blue 82 F-100 Flareside. The problem with this is that the original truck was blue with the white-painted panels which has resulted in several ill fated attempts to paint the panels. The kit decals come in black only. Does/can anyone do a version of the originals in white or any of the other optional colors? Surely I'm not the only one wanting to do this kit in a two tone?
  3. There are so many possibilities with this Bronco. I am looking forward to this. It's like a Jeep but better! I want to do one showroom stock and then maybe another as a beach beater. The Icon Bronco from a few years ago would be a chance to use some modern bits in it as well.
  4. I love this site, but have to limit my access. I once spent 8 hours reading the 489 pages of one of their threads on vintage Bonneville. Granted, I had insomnia that night anyway, but still. Also, the guy that runs that site also has one called Garage Journal and its forum has some of the most amazing home garages you could imagine. Some good ideas in there for dioramas, I would think. Again, it is a rabbit hole that you can fall in and lose track of time.
  5. I thought I remembered a 1/32 Cobra also, but I'm not sure.
  6. It is indeed a Saabaru, there is even a website dedicated to them. So far, I really like it. It is so nice having an automatic and not having to shift gears in Austin highway traffic. You never get past second gear before you have to push in the clutch and start over again. Also I've been cleaning it up, fixing some scratches and redoing some faded paint using the same brand of primer and paints that I use on models. I guess those hours painting models is starting to pay off! The seats are supremely nasty, but I've discovered that some Dawn in a spray bottle and a stiff scrub brush are miracle workers! I really want to replace the fender and bumper cover, but it'll have to wait until I get some more money saved up.
  7. If anyone in the Virginia area is reading this, is Denbigh Hobby Center still in Newport News? I spent a lot of money there back in the day. They used to buy up collections so there were a lot of obscure car kits in stock.
  8. When I was in the Navy I frequently drove from Norfolk to Texas and back. One of the things I look d forward to was checking out different hobby shops in the town I stopped in.
  9. I haven't taken any pictures, but here are a couple from the ad. I just got it registered and all that. I found out that only about 7000 were sold so body parts are going to be hard to come by.
  10. I don't mean this as an advertisement so I hope it's okay. It just that it seems like the only time we hear about a hobby shop is when they are closing. How about we start a listing of those old line shops that are still holding out? I'll start it out with two that I know of in Texas. King's Hobby Shop here in Austin and WIld Bill's Hobby is in Dallas (Irving), TX. WIld Bill's has an extensive collection of car models including some offerings that are out of production.
  11. I have an unbuilt MPC 70 Mustang. I wonder if the parts will work on it too?
  12. It might just be attributable to the fact that it was AMT in the 70s and 80s. I seem to remember a lot of their kits from that time had issues like this.
  13. Does the cutter come with a design program? What you are doing is really good!
  14. My contention is that eventually these printers will become as common as regular printers if consumers can see a use for them. You'll probably be able to go to Mega-Lo-Mart and get one for $50. It's the cartridge refills where they'll get you!
  15. I hope to get a couple shots of it tomorrow. I am trying to clean it up. Got it detailed and we had 2 inches of rain fall a couple hours later. PO had toddlers so the seats look like a Pollock painting.I polished out the headlights and will tackle the faded paint when it cools off outside. It is a 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX underneath so parts are easy to come by. The front right fender is dented and those are hard to find, so I may get to practice my body repair skills. Hey it's just a big model kit, right?
  16. Good save on the decal and nice build overall! I would love to have one of these in Austin to show up all the hipsters in their VW vans! LOL
  17. I bought a promo version not too long ago to restore one of these days. It looks the same as the kit but with a plate that simulates the engine from below. Of course it had been played with so it's missing the A pillars and the chrome is scuffed.
  18. It'll go into some collection, be hidden away and surface periodically when it is resold like old Ferrari's do. At least it'll survive.
  19. A sign of a good scratchbuild is when it looks like it was built out of the box that way. Good job. Now if I could only get someone to turn one of these into a Saab 9-2x for me.
  20. Really nice! When I was stationed in Pensacola, Fl, one of the base doctors had one of these in maroon that he drove everyday. It is on my Lottery list should I ever win big..
  21. I work full time and am going to school for my Master's while dealing with two teenage boys. I build models cars as a release. As if I needed a new distraction, I just bought a 2005 Saab 9-2x to fix up and drive. The PO had done $2500 worth of work on it, so I got the car for free, that's the way I look at it. Mechanically, it's a Subaru so it should be fairly dependable. Anyway, I intend to do some bodywork and do the junkyard crawl for a few odd bits and see if this giant gluebomb can't be restored!
  22. Great, I'll get an order together, thanks!
  23. I started this topic so as not to step on Ken Gilkeson's thread on his beautiful Cobra. You should check it out! He used the hardtop that came with the AMT kit which started me wondering if anyone has produced a version of the LeMans top Shelby used on their 1:1 cars. The profiles on the two are so different I don't think it would be an easy conversion.
  24. Maybe Aoshima will backdate their Delorean some day into a stock version. I would love it if some company would get on a 50s kick and do some BOP cars, but I would prefer some MEL cars. Mercury's Edsels and Lincolns are my favorites. Also,I wouldn't say no to some standard 2 door sedans and wagons... Hey a guy can dream, right?
  25. Just got a Saab 92x for a beater daily driver yesterday!
