Nice and clean ! I'm digging that carpet -- is that embossing powder or flocking or... ? That 6-banger looks right-at-home in that boiler room -- what mods did you make (if any) to facilitate it ? I want so badly to simply build mine OOB , but I also have a Pontiac OHC-6 that's looking for a home .

Looking great ! Nice work on that F.E. / MX engine & trans ( or is that an M.E.L. engine ? I can't remember... ) . Interior is SWEET !

Tæo 'Potatoe' , 28.02.2021 09:00 . Note the patch on his left-side ; when he tucks-in his arm , it becomes a heart-shape ! As a side note ; he's being so bratty this morning ! Conversely , he's very quiet , rarely vocalising (typical Egyptian Mau) . I'm thankful every day for this "Love Bug" ---- a gift from The Lord .

Another icon called-home . With his ace mechanic Gary Dyer , Grand Spaulding produced some 'factory-says-it-can't-be-done' classics --- the first 383-powered 1967 Dart ( 12/1966 ; Feb. 1967 issue of Car Craft ) , and the first 440 Dart ( late 1967 ) . I drew this picture back in 1999 [ see image ] , then colourised it in 2000 and added the vintage 1969 'Peace Hand' decal ; a gift for my friend .

Ace is a handsome boy ! He's a survivor , thanks to you and your kindness . Your other two companions are wonderful , too !

The weathering and rust are outstanding ( resembles a 5 year old California beach car ! ) , but perhaps it's the red/white/blue colour scheme that's most attractive to me ! It's as if the emissions-laden-gas-hog-era didn't happen , and this is a (phantom) 1978 Super Stock Pacer ; a massaged 401 under that massive bonnet .

For this matter , I'd like to see Round2 reissue the c.1994 Dodge 2500 ( 3500 ? ) "promo-style" kits ( regular and dually ) .

Haha ! My compliment is sincere , my Cymræg brother . If you'd like , I can send an image of 'Raw Power' to you via a message here .

Those are GREAT ! Your line work is spot-on , man ! While I truly like the lot of them , it's that 1958 Chrysler 300 against that desert background which really impresses me --- quite like Ralph Steadman's works in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas . I used to draw all of the time , too . The last automobile piece which I created was 10 , 11 years ago : Raw Power , after The Stooges album and song of the same name .

I've perused and then purchased entire kits for this reason alone . Sometimes , random pieces / assemblies are reasonably priced (especially out-of-production items) enough to justify purchasing them on their own . Definitely makes no sense to buy , say , the surfboards for $15.00 , when the entire kit is going for $21.00 ... and shipping is free or reasonable .

Ah ! Got it . I support you 100% on your gracious largesse .

Mid '70s Chevy rescue van Round 2
1972coronet replied to LongRoofNut's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Yes . I'd forgotten about those intrusive ejector pins on the side glass... New or modified tooling / gating could remedy that . That smooth roof is something I didn't really scrutinise until somewhat recently . IIRC , the aforementioned A-TEAM version has the ribs ( but is also 'saddled' with the sunroof and roof light mounting cutouts) ? I haven't had my hands on an original , c.1976-c.1978 version of the van since c.1983 , and I don't recall if that / those issues have the roof ribs . Seeing that the surfboards made their way into the latest E-150 issue ( they were newly-tooled for the reissued 1965 Chevelle Wagon ) , and are on their own runner , their inclusion in this 'armchair proposal' of mine should be a no brainer . The AMT Chevy Van has long been my favourite van kit . Perhaps it's because my aunt and uncle bought a half-ton shorty in 1974 (when I was 4 years ) that the stylling stuck with me . I know that the design of the base models' hub caps have always intrigued me (along with the deluxe wheel covers of the c.1972 C-10 ; the base Dodge hub caps of 1969-1975 , and ; the Ford 'E' and 'F' Series 3/4 ton & one ton hub caps ). -
Missing Link , perhaps ?

Mid '70s Chevy rescue van Round 2
1972coronet replied to LongRoofNut's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
While I agree with your assessment for the most part ( i.e. , the body is still quite good , albeit compromised via ad infinitum issues ) . Conversely , I offer the current state-of-affairs at Round2 : 1963 Nova Wagon and 1964 Oldsmobile F-85 / Cutlass Convertible . As popular as the Chevy Van is from this era , one could postulate about the potential for a new body for this kit , no ? Add the side glass / windows back into the mix ; correct the roof ; dust-off the 'Surf & Drag' (or whatever it's called) parts ; and either correct wheels ( it is a one ton van with 5 lug wheels , no ? ) or correct the emblems . Throw-in those sweet surfboards , a gang of decals , and multiple building options , and it would sell like a mother . -
Mid '70s Chevy rescue van Round 2
1972coronet replied to LongRoofNut's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
There was the literal insert behind / between the front seats , last seen in the A-TEAM version in the 80's . Wasn't the optional engine a Mark IV (396 , ad seq.) ? Would be nice if Round2 added the correct roof , too ; the optional side windows , too... -
1974 Duster 'Rescue & Rehabilitate' Project 14.02.2021
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I don't make it a 'habit' to purchase built-up models for the purpose of rehabilitating them ; this is an exception . I typically buy them for the sum of their good parts ( e.g. , maybe the interior is good , and I could use it , whereas the rest of the build is too far gone ) . I'm making this one into an under-construction street-strip car from c.1977 . Once I stripped the paint from the body , I noticed that its side markers were missing along with the emblems on the tail lamp panel . That was the impetus : It'll never be perfect , so I'll make a 'street-walkin' cheetah' out of it ! One of the best guys around here for restoring and upgrading old annuals and kits is @StevenGuthmiller. -
1974 Duster 'Rescue & Rehabilitate' Project 14.02.2021

That's a beauty ! I especially like the Challenger T/A scoop , and the underchassis headers ; the entire exhaust is cool ! Thanks much for sharing those photos and for itemising your sources for the non-kit parts . I like how these MPC Dart Sport (and Duster) kits' engine compartment offers generous room for just about any engine . Hopefully today I'll have more photos of my recent progress on the chassis / K-member . -
How do you know a model is an annual?
1972coronet replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Some examples which I can think of right-off : - MPC 1971-1975 Dusters ; 1971 Demon ; 1975-1976 Dart Sport . The latter Dart Sport annuals became : 1.) Smokey Chaser , 1977 2.) Dodge Duster , 1983 3.) Duster Hardtop , 2004 4. ) Rebel Rouser , 2013 (reissue of the 1975 annual ) 5.) Dart Board , 2020 ( reissue of the 1976 annual ) There are countless other examples from AMT and MPC . Typically , an annual gets / got reissued as a "modified-reissue" under various nomenclatures and building options (if any) . Take the MPC 1972 Chevy Pickup : Since '72 was the last year for that bodystyle , MPC reused the tooling over and over for various issues from c.1973- present ; sometimes stock , other times as , say , Cooter's Tow Truck . -
Looks GREAT , Mike ! Tamiya's aerosol semi-gloss black has a perfect finish to it for plastic and vinyl ; absolutely worth purchasing . I'd forgotten that the AMT 1970 Challenger has the Rallye Instruments ( not sure if the MPC Challenger annuals do or not ; and the Monogram T/A has the standard instruments ) . Partial-ring horn , too . I love what you've done to facilitate the Hemi engine --- you're one of the best eyeball-engineers around ! Have you ever perused the Lindberg 1972 Rallye Challenger ? Rumour has it that it's a 'knockoff' of the MPC kit .

1974 Duster 'Rescue & Rehabilitate' Project 14.02.2021
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Good question , Tom. I didn't want to get too involved in modifications with this particular 'rehab' . I'm also saving the AMT 1971 Duster kits I have for use with the mint 1973 and 1974 Duster Annuals I've recently scored . The Revell K-member was chosen because I had a standalone copy of it . The wheelbase id off side-to-side on the MPC chassis , and I couldn't let that go . -
1974 Duster 'Rescue & Rehabilitate' Project 14.02.2021
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I believe that it's the slicks which make it appear to have small(er) rear wheel openings . I'm going to slightly-lengthen the rear wheel openings , as I'm going to keep (but detail) the kit's Spyders / slicks combo (maybe the DOT slicks from the Dart Sport... ) -
1974 Duster 'Rescue & Rehabilitate' Project 14.02.2021
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Photos To Follow Tomorrow... I cut-off the misaligned K-member and "wheel nubs" from the 1976 Dart Sport chassis , and marqued mounting-points for the Revell 1968-1969 Dart K-Member / suspension . The K's mounts are just a hair-wider than the rails of the '76 Dart's , so I'm having to improvise : I sanded-smooth the (useless on any MoPar ) traction bars , and glued them to the forward-ends of the Dart Sport's frame rails ; that should provide the requisite additional room for the Revell K-member . Changed my mind regarding the engine / trans combo -- I'll be using the Hemi from the '73 Duster Annual (including its underchassis headers) with the single-four barrel carb . A T-Flite from Harts Parts will be mated-to the kit engine . Only 50 views as of 22:55 HRS. ???? I want honest opinions and critiques ; accolades or jeers --- c'mon , guys and gals ! -
Good call on separating the rear seatback from its seating portion ; definitely more realistic . Those Coronet-specific door panels are works of art in themselves ! Another outta this world restoration !
