1974 Duster 'Rescue & Rehabilitate' Project 14.02.2021
1972coronet posted a topic in WIP: Model Cars
Work-In-(Slow)-Progress MPC 1974 Duster Annual . Purchased from eBay late in 2020 ( $ 30 ) ; undergoing a S-L-O-W rebuild . Honestly , if not for the ugly colours used on the engine and chassis ( gloss brown , gloss baby blue , gloss green , gloss red ! YIKES ! ) , I would've simply restored it as-is (as-was) . However , the combination of the grotesque colour schemes , and the "glue dents" on the roof (too much glue was used to install the 'glass' ) , I simply couldn't leave-it-be . Thus far , I've stripped the gloss grey paint and the accompanying decals , and ; had to wet sand some of the stubborn decal 'ghosting' and leftover white primer . Filled the dents in the roof ( Tamiya White Putty -- best stuff ever ! ) , then primed the body with scratch-fill red oxide primer . Massaged the body to "perfection" ( I had to sand-off the side markers and one of the 'Duster' emblems ) ; added C-pillar mouldings ( a first for me ) ; and scribed the missing separations from fenders-to-cowl , and fenders-to-rocker-panels ( ahead of the front doors ) . I also deepened the existing panel lines . Bonnet came from a glue bomb junker , as the original was festooned with that hideous scoop and the accompanying hole . Paint is Testors Inca Gold ( most of the body ) , Tamiya Silver Leaf ( bonnet and left fender ) , and Tamiya Fine White Primer ( roof ) . I want for it to look like a late 70's street hoodlum ; something one may encounter on The Connecting Highway or Woodward or I-696 , et alia . Engine will be the Revell 'generic' Chrysler B / Rb with Torqueflite . Chassis will be from the newer-release 1976 Dart Sport , but with the K-Member & suspension from a parts box Revell 1968-1969 Dart (not going crazy with the underside --- I just want to align the front wheelbase , as it's off on the MPC chassis ) . As-purchased photos (grey) and W.I.P. ( aforementioned colours ) . CRITIQUES WELCOME & ENCOURAGED (other than jabs at my amateur photos) . -
I'd love to see that car ( if it still exists ) . Was the white top painted or vinyl ? I also wonder if the paint was special ordered , or if it was a Chevrolet colour ? I could see Grotto Blue (or was is Danube Blue ? ) with red interior . * According to the revised 1969 Camaro brochure , the blue shades were : Glacier , Le Mans , or Dusk . The aforementioned were either earlier , or were Nova shades ( same colour , different nomenclature ?) *

I just read that news... A friend of mine is a big fan of Chick's works ; I'm only familiar with his co-op with Miles Davis' "later" ( late 60's , ad seq. ) works , though I have heard many of his pieces . A tremendous talent . The Mad Hatter Rhapsody - YouTube

Looks GREAT ! I'm really digging on the Hugger Orange with red interior --- unique , and likely a real possibility . My favourite 1969 COPO has Daytona Yellow Houndstooth interior :

Kits Which Were Once This, Then Became That

The AMT Econoline is different from the MPC version . The MPC E-150 was last issued in c.1981 . -

Typical 'Annual' updates is all . By c.1979 , MPC showcased the customised version of the fill-in-the-blank annual ( e.g. , the 1979 Ford Econoline Van was called Sunrunner , and the stock parts were included ) : -

What a special heart ! Reminds me of my Navajo neighbour and his table for Beading .

How darling ! Thank you for rescuing those little angels ❤️ Tæo loves to be near me when I open a new kit (or anything in a box) . I leave the boxes around for him to play with ; he loves talking to them ( trilling , grunting , and meowing --- the only time he's vocal ) .

Mea culpa , that was a Freudian slip on my part ( haha ) . And , yes , you are correct about the {{{ wince }}} fighting . I refer to them as 'The Target Icon' (younger folks) or the Little Rascals dog (older folks) ; Spuds works well for Gen-X folks (like me) .

I'm right there with you regarding the uninspired tyres in the Revell '68 Charger ; those decals don't sweeten the deal , either . Fireball's A-12 [ 1969 1/2 440+6 Super Bee and Road Runner for those unfamiliar with the jargon ] 15"x6" wheels and accompanying tyres are beautiful pieces . Even on the 1:1 car , those wheels are special --- and difficult to find . Fireball's carburetors are works of art !

The classic American Bull Terrier ! So sleek and wonderful . My friends have one ; white with the black circle around her left eye . I'm digging on your illustration of the VW , @Phirewriter! So many wonderful canine companions around here . Nothing beats an animal companion --- they love you no matter what .
-
Gorgeous canine companions you've got there ! I love their markings ; absolutely stunning ! Total lovebugs I'll bet ❤️
-
Cool photo ! Tyke tracks too ! I'm glad that they have plenty of real estate for their needs in Wyoming ❤️. The documentary is great , albeit bittersweet . A true and candid look into the activities of The Cat of the Americas , centred on a mum and her three babies .

Any animal will "act-out" if it feels confined or trapped --- Fight or Flight , just like we bipeds --- especially if there's babies around ( or a food source ) . Mountain Lions are my favourite Big Cat ; such graceful creatures ; closest relative to our "domestic" cats ( Mountain Lions purr ; the only Big Cat whose purring is exactly like their little relatives ) . People around here are terrified of Pumas ( the Cleveland Mountains are the closest range to me ; extension of the Santa Monica Mountains ) . I tell them to leave the cat an "out" , and it won't bother you unless there are kittens or food in the area . That's when the 'talk-loudly-and-make-yourself-bigger-while-backing-away-keeping-eye-contact' protocol comes into play . If you're interested , and since you live in Wyoming , you should watch The Secret Life of Mountain Lions . It's a documentary about the Wind River Range and a female puma with her tykes .

Firstly , thank you for rescuing those two companions ❤️ It's uncanny just how much Ollie resembles my companion Tæo ! They both have a black marque on their right wrist , in the same area ( see photo ) ! Toffy is such a gorgeous Tortie ! She looks like a big , solid super girl ❤️

Thank you , @Casey, for posting the actual video --- not sure why my post didn't provide the actual video vs. its link . You're quite welcome , @hpiguy. I enjoy your videos tremendously !

Not to steer away business from Chief Joseph / Fireball ( I support him with my business as much as possible ) , but the Revell 1968 Charger has the correct steel wheels and 1968 hubcaps . I know that Fireball offers the 1969-1975 wheels & hubcaps , but those are incorrect for a 1968 model .

Lovely story ; full of compassion ! Shelter animals are typically on-edge , esp. the adults or mothers with babies . I once saw a beautiful mum with her 5 tykes at the shelter . She was on the defence immediately , growling and hissing at me . I spoke gently to her , "Such a pretty mommas . You have a wonderful family there , super girl ; you're great about defending them ." Her mood changed almost instantly ; she started purring and trilling and rubbing-against the compartment's gate . She even called her kittens over ( I love when a mum talks to her guys ! ) . I wanted to take them all home with me !

Thank you very much ❤️! I have a shrine with their ashes (inside cedar boxes , separate) ; two Maneki Neko 'stand-guard' in the shrine , as does a hand-carved wooden tiger from Korea (and a grip of other keepsake items) .
