The story (originally printed in an issue of Playboy) was based-upon something that actually happened to Matheson... on 22nd November 1963 ( a familiar , historical date ) . Dennis Weaver's character's mannerisms and reactions were encouraged --- Spielberg liked Weaver's acting in some film ( or , maybe , an episode of The Twilight Zone --- of which Matheson wrote many stories for ) , so he was selected to play that role based on his high-strung , overreacting character . I'm not trying to change your mind by stating these 'facts' ; I just wanted to shed some light on the origins of the article-come-movie (originally released in November 1971 as a T.V. movie) .

This seems to tell a different story regarding the Ventura II's sardined roof :

I should have amended my post to mention the non-stock nature of the Street Machine version --- I recommended it only for its belt & pulleys ; the aftermarket rocker arm covers are nice , too . I bought the engine-only from the 'Street...' version via eBay just for its non-A/C setup and its rocker arm covers . Thank you for the additional information .

Perfect . I'd suggest the AMT 1971 Duster 340 in that instance . It has its shortcomings ( no PVC valve , no Crankcase Breather Cap ) but those can be easily remedied . For the best result : get the Street Machine version for its belt & pulley arrangement , as this iteration provides only for crank-water pump-alternator , whereas the stock version includes the arrangement for air conditioning . The stock version will provide a single 4 barrel carburetor ( Thermo-Quad ) or the Six Barrel ( three 2 barrel Holley 2300 carburetors ) .

Are those outer-amber lenses functional as parking lights or running lights ? I'm familiar with the amber turn signals / hazard lamps being required in many --if not all-- European countries (Australia as well ; not sure about New Zealand) , but I'm surprised by the outer lamps' amber colour . * I wish that the U.S. would require amber turn signals / hazard lamps as well . Red is an improper colour ; red means "stop" ---- are we supposed to stop for someone's lane-change ?

If you're aiming for a stock engine , you'll need a 'Poly' 318 ( colloq. , "big block 318" ) . I'm not aware of any Poly 318 engines in any kit ; only the LA series . If you don't want for 100% accuracy ---- the AMT 1971 Duster 340 is a great start . Those old MPC small block Chrysler engines are woefully undersized ( basically , every MPC kit from c.1970-c.1980 ) .

What happened to all the great magazines?
1972coronet replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
An esoteric reference ; Khazi is "outhouse" in British slang . The line , " sing in the khazi / while you suss out the moon... " is from the Small Faces Lazy Sunday Afternoon (1968) . I was bringing to light @Snake45's comment regarding restrooms and electronic devices . -

Just don't go bringing those devices into the " khazi while you suss out the moon" ! -

I absolutely need to encounter the tactile experience of holding whatever I'm reading (internet forums , et alia , are obvious exceptions) . Easy-access to previously-esoteric information via Wikipedia (for an instance) is one of the (so-called) Electronic Age advantages ; one-amongst-many advantages ( email is great --albeit , impersonal-- for communicating with friends , family , etc. , in an instantaneous manner ) . But , in my (shared) opinion , computers / electronics are NOT a replacement for the written word and accompanying photos or images . I used to look forward to reading Muscle Car Review [ R.I.P ] and Mopar Action (still published... but overrun with 'Resto-Mod' and newer vehicles . No , thanks. ) , but those days are behind us . To quote a line from Who Says? by Richard Hell & The Voidoids : "Once born you're addicted And so you depict it As good, but who kicked it? Users just can't see the horror Tell one if you want to bore her" -
"Go get your shine box !"

That was my first thought : It's got to be durable for that application . Not fragile , like a Fabergé egg or a newborn bird . ( I've never embraced the whole Alclad thing , as it seems do freakin' delicate . I've used Krylon / Duplicolor aerosol chrome for big parts for over 10 years . At least one can handle the parts with no problems after the finish has cured completely ! )

Ken Osmond, aka Eddie Haskell, dead at 76

I'd forgotten that he was an L.A.P.D. Officer ! Haha ! Everybody had a Haskell in their circle of friends . -
The 1974 Dart Sport 360 with the Hang 10 package was the first brand new car I remember seeing . It was on display in the showroom of the local Dodge dealership in the spring of 1974 ; I was 4 years old . I know that it was a 360 model , as its blue engine was topped with a bright orange air cleaner .
-
The thin ones , 2nd row from the top ; and the "spear" type , lower-left . The bold stripes are for the Spirit of '76. Note that both examples shared the same seat upholstery pattern .
-
The Hang 10 was offered in 1974 and 1975 ; all engines were available , but only a console-shift automatic (no 3 nor 4 speeds) . The decal sheet offers the exterior decals only ( a welcomed addition ) , but is "lacking" the interior setup ( Keith Marks sells those ) . The Spirit of '76 decals are great , too ! I could swear that Dart Lite decals were included ( yes , I bought this issue of the kit for its decals primarily ) , but ostensibly that's not the case .
-
Thanks much . I've got to get a copy some day...

That's one beautiful Bel , Jim ! Looks exactly like the kind I'd see cruising Whittier Boulevard back in the 70's ( I grew up two blocks up from the world famous Whittier Blvd. cruising scene ; and about 5 miles from the epicentre Bob's Big Boy ) . Is this the Revell kit or the AMT kit ?
-
I've built quite a few of the (superior-to-the MPC-version) Monogram 1985 Corvette kit , and each one was an absolute joy . Perhaps its finer points (vs. , again , the MPC version) are its glass (not morbidly-dark tinted) and its correct tyres ( Good Year VR-50 Gatorback ) . Kudos to Monogram ! I don't believe that we'll see the likes of the 1985-1987 years of this kit , as it was modified into ZR-1 livery for 1988 or 1989 --- a great kit in its own right . Keep up the great work ! I'm living-vicariously through your work !

Phil May of 'The Pretty Things' , DECEASED
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Not to mention the Small Faces 1968 concept album (also their last studio album) Ogden's Nut Gone Flake whose 2nd side is entitled Happiness Stan . Then there's the Moody Blues albums from 1967 - 1972 ; those albums are all fluid-stories and tales . -
Phil May ( 09.11.1944 - 15.05.2020 ) , lead singer of The Pretty Things , left this world yesterday at age 75 . Some of you may recall their most-recognised songs 'Midnight To Six , Man' and '£sd' ( alleged to stand for Pounds , Shillings , Pence ... haha ) . Their 1968 album SF Sorrow is a psychedellic masterpiece as well .
