  1. I had the 1987 annual when it was new (Spring 1987) . The only complaints I had about it at the time : - Chrome headlamps ( disappointing , but workable ) - Moulded-in tail lamps (really tedious to paint , even for my rock-steady 17 year old hands ) - B.F. Goodrich tyres ( completely incorrect for a then-new Mustang GT !! But , that's what MPC was using at that time *sigh* ) - Moulded-in-red I paid little attention to its other alleged maladies at the time ( upholstery pattern , etc. ) , as I was more interested in the car as a subject ; that 1987 cosmetic redesign was outstanding for its time !
  2. Courtesy of out beloved forum ; details of Landy's customised oil pan : http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/?showtopic=59278
  3. Thanks for the great review , Tim ! Regarding the steering linkage through the oil pan sump ; Dandy Dick Landy had this exact setup on his A/MP 1970 Hemi Charger . I can only imagine that other Hemi-powered B & E Body MoPars had similar --if not exact-- arrangements . Apparently , the lifespan of these custom 10 qt pans wasn't too long , as the welds would fatigue in short order . Good call on the shifter for the Slick-Shift 4-speed ! I *believe* that the Reverse-Lockout was mandated for the 1968 or 1969 season (at least through NHRA's Super Stock class ...) . I was honestly expecting to see a Verti-Gate or Ram Rod shifter ; perhaps those didn't come along until c.1971 ? I , along with many others , welcome this edition of the 1970 Hemi'Cuda ! Kudos to Revell for working within the parametres of the existing tooling's technological-limitations (e.g. , the hood's integral scoop) to bring the huddled masses a much-needed kit ! Here's a gorgeous looking '70 'Cuda in race livery :
  4. Another alternative would be for one of your local paint suppliers to mix a batch of your desired colour . In this case , FM3 is Chrysler's colour code .
  5. The Sno-White export model is , indeed , Stripe Delete . It also does not have a radio , as European frequencies are ostensibly different , thereby making a U.S.-spec receiver useless . If I had the opportunity to order a 1971 'Cuda brand new , I also would've checked the 'Stripe Delete' box .
  6. Testors makes a the correct Panther Pink / Moulon Rouge in aerodol cans .
  7. Ha ! Y'know , Molly has never been admonished . She's never gone where she's not supposed to ! Perhaps a big part of her behaviour is due to her disability ; she's partially blind . Oliver , on the other hand ... he's been a brat since the day I brought him home . Typical of a 'Ship's Cat'
  8. Well , let's see here ... 1971 Hemi'Cuda Production Hardtop (BS23R1B) = 108 Convertible (BS27R1B) = 11 I don't have a breakdown of options , transmission , etc. , nor do I have a breakdown of the shipments of the hardtops ; however , I have the following numbers on convertible shipments : 7= U.S. 2= Canada 2= Export All are amazingly accounted for (!!) . I've seen 1 of the 2 Canadian cars ; an at-the-time , 30,000 miles , 100% original , heavily-optioned model ( EV2 Tor-Red , V2 Tor-Red interior , AM-Cassette-Recorder , etc.) . I've seen both of the Export cars . Both were shipped to France ; one is GA4 Winchester Grey , the other is GW3 Sno-White . One has the highest sequence number , the other has the lowest sequence number ; both respectively alleged to be the 1st and the other the last off the line at Hamtramck . If I remember correctly , the one in question here (the $3.5 million car at Mecum) had only one option : The Super Performance Axle Package ( 4.10 geared Dana 60 ; 7-blade clutch-drive fan ; Maximum Duty Cooling , and ; Power Disc Brakes ) . The Torqueflite was standard with the Hemi (and the 440+6 for that matter) , so that doesn't count as an option . I first read about this very car back in c.1996 , when it sold for a then-record $350,000
  9. I can't wait to see how your '67 Chevelle comes out ! I love the '66-'67 GM A-bodies ; such a classic bodystyle . I've been wanting to add this gem to my 'to-build' stack . I'm thinking that a Baldwin-Motion type version would be in order ( SS-427 ) . Is that blue closer to LeMans Blue or Marina Blue ?
  10. Here's some pics of my two lovers : Molly Anne McCalico , Age 12 years . Rescued from the local shelter in 2002 when she was 6 months . Oliver Nathanel Hawthorne Sabastian , Age 11 years . Rescued from the same shelter as Molly , on 14th Feb 2004 , age 8 months. Both of my lovers together :
  11. The mirrors alone fetch a pretty penny !
  12. As much as I love my 2013 Civic , there is too much "nanny" about it ; chiming noises which command me to put the seat belt on ( QUIT already ! I'm only driving around the apartment complex ! ) ; annoying screen with back-up camera display and other displays ( no , I don't care if some-one sent me a text message while I'm driving ! ) ; and , the latest annoyance (not limited to the Civic) : "T.P.M.S." !! Okay, one of the tyres is low on its recommended pressure ; but which one !?!? You can have your BMW's ( I do really like their older vehicles , and would gladly take a European-spec M6 Alpine ! ) and other fancy "incredible lease opportunity" college boy rides . I'll stick with the K.I.S.S. principal , and will continue to enjoy my 1972 Dodge for what it's worth : no computers , no smog equipment (not much of it to begin with , and what was there has been removed ) , no radio , no heater , no nothing . Just a well-worn 318 V8 which produces real engine sounds ! iDrive . Puh-leeze !
  13. Nice detailling on that Promo ! I remember when this Promo and its companion Kit were released in early 1988 ; I could hardly await their arrival ! Every pickup kit from the 80's was a flippin' 4 wheel drive , and I needed a 2 wheel drive ! I can still see the review by our own Terry Jesse in a late 1987 issue of 'SAE' . He'd received an early production Promo ; he added some Bare Metal Foil to it in order to accent its side mouldings . His words were , "The collectors are probably going to kill me , but I just had to add some detail to [this promo] ..."
  14. 1970 Barracuda (et al.) brochure : http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1970PlymouthDealershipDataBook-01.shtml
  15. The fascia of the Dodge and Plymouth B-Body (mid-sized) platform changed for 1975 ; that was the year of the single headlamp arrangement . A minor cosmetic change to stacked , square headlamps was introduced for 1977 . Plymouth grille = full-width (1975-1978) Dodge grille = split , individual grilles (1975-1978)
  16. If you're planning to replicate a 1977 model , remember that the 77's had ambre turn signals in their tail lamp lenses . Additionally ; if you're planning to replicate a California Highway Patrol unit , it's a little known fact that these --and their civilian counterparts-- did not have the Electronic Lean Burn computer . Instead , the California cars had all of the smog junk ( Catalytic Converter(s) , EGR , A.I.R. Pump , etc. ) . Regarding the steering wheel : While the kit's tiller is *technically* incorrect , its presence isn't out of the realm of possibility . That "Tuff-Grip" wheel certainly could have been ordered on an "A38" ( Police Car Conversion Package ) , as well as a civilian model . The 'Partial Horn Ring' tiller is most common ; that's what the Yodel kits have . My biggest complaints about this kit --since its inception some thirty years ago-- are : - Manual transmission . Only available with the 225 Slant Six . - 1966 & earlier brake master cylinder . - 1968-1969 engine air cleaner . - Those stupid tyres and wheels ( ) . An excellent source for original , factory-issued brochures and other factory info , is Hamtramck Historical : 1970 .
  17. 1969-1974/1975 ; 1975-c.1980 . The Dodge hub caps in the Missing Link lineup are the 1969-1974/1975 models . A similar version was used on pickups and B-vans ; those were non-anodised and unpainted , c.1974-c.1976 .
  18. That's some new info for yours truly ! I have only seen the gold coloured engines ( and silver in Mexico-built , Mexican market V8 engines ) . The 'light blue' is the same as the "1972 Blue" engine colour as the U.S. market engines ? I also recognise the 1969 & earlier radiator . Makes me wonder ; was the stamping / tooling sold to the Brasil assembly plant ?
  19. In spite of this kit's (unrecognisable to me) shortcomings , it's still a fun kit to build . Yours looks quite nice ! I like these Stooges as well ------>
  20. The exact reason why I didn't go for the 'Pre-Sale' offerings on eBay ; not enough evidence of the kit's arrival , just speculation .
  21. I emailed Round2 in regard to this kit's release date . Their reply was , "There is no official release date as of yet." (to paraphrase) . Perhaps the alleged "factory-bash" between the MPC body and the AMT chassis (etc.) didn't work so well ?
  22. - 1967 GT / GT+S Dart ( 273 and 383 engines ; 4-speed and 904-LA transmissions ) - 1970 Swinger 340 (automatic and 4-speed) - 1970 Duster / Duster 340 ( base models' dash and 340's rallye dash ) - 1974 Monaco - 1977 / 1978 Monaco - 1971 / 1972 El Camino / GMC Sprint (especially an SP-1 version !) - 1995 / 1996 Caprice 9C1
  23. Do not hesitate ! Missing Link produces the absolute best resin parts !
