'Tuesday Afternoon' ( whose whole title is 'The Afternoon : Forever Afternoon ( Tuesday ?) ) by the Moody Blues is one of my all time favourites

GA4 Light Gunmetal (same as Plymouth's Winchester Grey) is going to look dynamite on your build. I've been contemplating that colour for my next build - but with the orange / black interior (the only other factory correct option for the bucket seat interior) . Keep up the nice work !

Better motor for MPC '76 Caprice
1972coronet replied to ranma's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I believe that you're subjectively correct : IIRC, the Turbo Jet 400 (402) and the 454 weren't available with California emissions. The 350 four barrel was the top engine ; maybe the 400 Turbo Fire (SBC). -

Hurst-Campbell finished the job. Cars left Hamtramck as 383 models with assembly instructions (seen at the bottom of the build sheet) which stated "BUILD LESS ENG. TRANS. CARB." So, yes, not a "true" factory build (the fender tags indicated the 383 engine code, but also had 'A12' conversion code, plus 'Y39' special order) , but were factory engineered.

What the heck? Paint issues.

Quite likely - cold, definitely ( 30-40 degrees ) . But, it did polish nicely , regardless. Nice Cobra ! -
Dodge 1972-77 Truck Air Cleaner Question
1972coronet replied to stavanzer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I can't speak to the origins of that air cleaner, other than its presence in every issue of the MPC D-Series pickup from MPC. All that I know is that it's far from being stock ! Perhaps it's representative of an open-element , foam filtre setup ? -

Every time I've used Testors Wet Look Clear, it flashed (dried ?) in a dull - maybe semi-flat - finish. After colour sanding and polishing, it bore a nice gloss. -
TS Paint Stripping

Replying to @stitchdup, et alia : I'd neglected to mention that I had applied the kit-supplied Sizzler stripes to the bonnet, then painted the centre semi-gloss black. It turned out awful ! I've got Ray's Decals 1971-1972 Demon decals coming some day - those include the full Sizzler hood decal set... no mask-and-paint ! In the meantime, I had to get rid of the whole shebang. The Purple Power easily lifted the semi-gloss paint, but left the (super thick) decals intact, and didn't touch the yellow. I bought a quart of 91% IPA today, and put some in a small container. I dropped the hood in and let it soak. thus far, the decals are gone. Now I can simply scuff-and-shoot - and if the IPA loosened the paint, even better. -
Tom Hoover's Hoover's Mover 1969 Barracuda is exhibited as an illustration on the page in the 2nd photo. That car was powered by a worked 360 with W2 heads, LD-340 intake, etc., etc. It started life as a quite rare model : 1969 "M" Code (375hp 440 Super Commando) hardtop (the majority were the fast back).

Songs by early Pink Floyd (Sound) are , IMO, much better than the more-revered works of 1973 & later

1972 was the last model year for that (crummy, stupid, unnecessary) small bolt pattern (5 retainers on a 4" pattern !) , so the Road Wheels (Chrysler's nomenclature) with their 5x4.5" bolt pattern wouldn't fit. That car's a sweet colour combo ! Looks like GB5 with matching interior (however incorrect the pattern is). Perhaps it was originally shod with the blue bench seat in vinyl-with-blue-houndstooth-pattern ? 3-spped manual ? Rubber mats ? I'd hafta see its fender tag to be sure.

TS Paint Stripping
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thank you, one and all. I'll grab some 99% IPA tomorrow. Failing that , I'll grab some Super Clean at work on Tuesday. -
I realise that this subject's been discussed before. Keeping this in mind, I employed the "Search..." feature - and I found some 76,000,000,000 pages to scroll through, each with "Paint" and/or "Tamiya" in the subject. No thanks. So here I am. I need to strip Tamiya TS 16 (gloss yellow) from the bonnet of the latest '71 Demon. This was painted over the bare plastic (after only a good scrubbing with dish soap and a thorough rinse, etc.) ; there's no primer coat. Purple Power didn't touch it one bit. I seem to remember this being a common 'issue'. Recommendations, please. Thanks.

WHATS GOING ON HERE?
1972coronet replied to CaddyDaddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Electronic ignition = MUCH better (G.M.'s H.E.I. is thee best, bar none ). Electronic carburetors - TRASH . Why not put the R&D funds into fuel injection instead of diesel-powered mouse traps ? -
I spray painted my 1972 Swinger using Chrysler Engine Orange ( colloq. , [Street] Hemi Orange ) back in 1998. Car was originally EV2 Hemi Orange to begin with ; the engine paint's the same, sans the metallic used on the body paint. I used 15-20 cans ; 2 on each panel, 3 on the hood-roof-trunk. After a week or two, I colour sanded it, and polished it to a perfect shine - zero "high spots" or "low spots" , zero runs, sags, etc. Rattle can paint jobs can look quite nice when the prep is proper and the application performed correctly.

WHATS GOING ON HERE?

The 1990 454-SS was still carbureted , IIRC. But, those carbs have more electronic garbage on them than the fuel injection setup ! Enough over-complicated junk to baffle Mr. Wizard ! -

Everything is overdone these days - mostly vehicles and housing. Even if someone wanted a base work truck / van, sans all of the techie rubbish , you can't find them on the lot - let alone trying to order one so unembellished . Now, it'd be one thing if one could order a say, C-1500, with rubber mats, tilt wheel, A/C, decent sound system (sans screens) , power - or at least truly adjustable - seating, 5.3, auto (or manual), steel wheels, and whatever gear diff, within reason. Then there's the 8 bedroom houses... with bonus rooms and other fancy nonsense. Translation: "No, you won't be able to afford this house on your Blue Collar income. But, thanks for playing." Apparently, those one-two bedroom, one bathroom, decent yard, houses aren't comfy enough for the single folk, let alone a small family. -
