How high will it go?
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yea, I was looking at some of his items. I like the 60 Chevy nomad wagon, but I don’t want another resin car. -

Well.... at least I won the 62 Chrysler I was after, for $42. All is not bad. This was another car I really wanted to build. -

My dad taught me how to drive in a big ole 72 Chrysler Newport four door with a 440 and low mileage. I wish I had that car today. -

I like the 65 myself, especially after following Steve’s build with his. But that 66 looked pretty fine. I had a max bid, that I was not willing to increase. And I would have to agree with the others that it will probably pass the $250 mark. Just a bit out of my range right now. If I didn’t just fill my humidor with cigars, maybe I would have went higher. -

Well, Bill I had a bid of $200 on it and I was just outbid. That’s it for me, I can’t afford to go any higher. -

Good advice. It’s terrible to see people parting out those old, original kits. -

I think I’ll probably get out bid. If not... good for Tom! I also have another bid on another JoHan, and I think I’ve got that one in the bag. This one though, not so sure. We will see what happens in a few days.Fingers crossed. -

I put a bid on it. But I will not increase it though. It would stink if I lost it by a buck or two. There are only 42 others interested in it. If by some miracle, I actually do win it, I don’t think the value will depreciate much, if I need to sell it to buy more Ramen. -

Hmmm, decisions, decisions, do I pay the mortgage, or buy a model kit? -

In that case, I’ll take two. -
Thank you everyone. Now I plan on building the 70 Roadrunner , Model Master sublime green, with the 440 six pack set up, rallye wheels, and Good Year tires all from Fireball Modelworks.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F153616833647 I wish I had a few hundred dollars laying around, I really don’t need. I’d buy this. Interested to see how high the price gets. Still a ways to go, and many bidders. Looks like a REALLY NICE kit. Decals and chrome appears to be in fantastic condition.

This is a bit of a rant, and in no way am I bashing any individual company, but these kits today, and the styrene being used in them, is pretty terrible in my opinion. I know a lot of people on this forum know what I am talking about, because many of you have experienced the lesser quality in the plastic, over the last several years. I don’t know what gives, but if anyone knows what they (industry) are doing to cast the kits today, please chime in. I decided to open one of my Revell 68 Hemi Dart kits, as I recently acquired a pro street chassis for it. The kit has beautiful details, and required very minimal cleanup, but this plastic is so soft, and flimsy, I snapped two parts, while being delicate with them. Is it really necessary to skimp on the quality of the plastic, while demanding top dollar for the kits? I now understand, when another member in these boards, stated that he “refuses to build any new kits” because of the plastic used today. I was watching Donn Yosts YouTube channel, and he had some bodies disintegrate while soaking them in Purple Power. And I’m thinking to myself, I hope I never mess up another paint job, and have to strip a car again. Rant over.

Didn’t realize how close this was to being finished. Now to try and move onto the other three on the bench, then maybe the six sitting next to the bench.

Sweet. What red line tires did you use?

Getting a Hobby Lobby!!!!!!
Brutalform replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My Hobby Lobby is about 30 miles away from me. I hardly go there, as my local hardware store, which specializes in RC, trains, and model kits, and also carries a full Tamiya line, is 2 miles away. If he doesn’t have it on the shelf, he can special order it for you. -
That’s one mighty fine looking Mopar! Your attention to detail paid off. Is that sublime paint the lacquer, or the enamel? Also what primer did you use underneath? I want to buy this color for a future 70 Roadrunner build, and after seeing your car, I think I might start it sooner than I planned. Really nice job there!

Worked on the car a bit in the last couple days. Decided the paint looked good enough to skip polishing. Not spending a lot of time on the bench due to summer activity, but i still try to do a little here and there. Here are some pics of the final assembly. I have two other builds I plan on completing soon. Just waiting for some glue to dry on the GTX, then I can finish the under hood, front and rear bumpers, and decals. This car is pretty much out of the box, except for a few things in the engine, and drag radials. Pretty easy kit to build.

Goodyear Tire Decals
Brutalform replied to Straightliner59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I believe Slixx sells a sheet with all the popular tire manufacturers lettering, in their “goodies” section. -
Not to change the subject, but fairly recently on this forum, someone built the molded in black, Monogram 55 Chevy. And to be honest, it was the nicest build I’ve seen. Looks like it was taken right from the box, but WAY nicer. This builder preformed all the necessary fixes, and it showed. I believe any kit can be built into a nice car, if the effort gets put into it.

Superb build. Those wheels look perfect, not too big. That interior really compliments the body color. I’ve never tried any colors over a base color before. Only over various shades of primer. Your paint looks amazing. Was there any imperfections in the plastic that made you just re shoot the color?

Looks like a fantastic build, Michelle. What brand of color did you use? Looks like a Mopar should.
