  1. If I hadn't seen the checked base and the disassembled interior, I'd swear it were a 1:1 show truck. And I'm still not 100% sure! Beyond excellence.
  2. Skip, It's like a Tamiya box. Only sometimes, they have one side hinging the box and lid like a donut box. Either way, with or without the hinge, the darn things are horrible. They always seem to fall apart.
  3. It's good to see a complaint thread where we are all in agreance that something is just odd or wrong.
  4. I found the 68 Revell 68 Firebird (issue just before Foose version) for $2 at a garage (well yard) sale once. The only kit I have ever found at one. Glad you found these. I dunno if I would change them up either.
  5. Oh yeah! Both of these are great!
  6. Smooth! I ain't a Ford guy but, you gave this one a slick treatment.
  7. It's cool man. I'd never heard of them called that until a few months ago. It helps when you are actually looking at that type box when someone says it. If not for the visual aid, I would probably be headscratching myself.
  8. Just wow!
  9. That's basically it right there. Krispy Kream boxes without the cellephane (SP?) window.
  10. This thing deflinitely looks cool in the different tones of black. I saw one of these done in protouring style in the new Fast Six commercial. Hopefully between yours and the movie more people are inspired to drag these out and build them.
  11. Finish one in a normal box, break down the parts tree to size, and throw the contents in the normal box. Then label what it really is. Then come to think of it, most of the "donut box" kits were packaged or repackaged in a regular box at one time or another anyway. (Syclone, and Uptown kits immediately come to mind.) So, they should fit the way they are.
  12. As long as it becomes an optional transportation, not a standard. I am acrophobic so, I will stick with paved roads for now.
  13. Well, update. Yesterday, I was moving my office from one room to another and it was time to pour out the degreaser. When I did, the cab of the truck slid out and across my fingernail. A big chunk of paint came off. I decided to start scrubbing it. Turns out about 95% of the paint and primer ended up coming off. So, aparently, i just hadn't waited long enough for the paint to be penetrated.
  14. In my experience, in cans, flat black paint is not a good primer. However, I have noticed that paint in silver, aluminum, etc. on drivetrain and exhaust parts look a whole lot better with a layer of flat black under it.
  15. For some reason, that conjures images of the old Tootsie Pop commercial where the owl finds out how many licks it takes to get to the center. 1, 2, 3...... Then just like the kid looking all shocked and confused, here we all are on this thread.
  16. I think he meant the part that is missing on both sides.
  17. Sounds like a winner. It keeps down the risk of a mess as well.
  18. Sounds like some good suggestions. Ill mess around and see what I got around in a few days and forward the results. Oh, and by the way. If someone could chime in with the answer to whether I need to remove the lid or not, I'd appreciate it. I've stripped a few without a lid before but, like I said, this is only the second one sealed in a container with a lid.
  19. It was definitely lacquer. I remember it's the first time I smelled lacquer paint going on a model kit.
  20. There was an Actual IROC kit back in the day of an 80s Camaro, just can't remember who made it. I actually remember it cause I almost cut the side of my thumb off with an Xacto building the thing. This was around 92 or so that I had one.
  21. Dang, that's smooth! Is it me or is that body slightly chopped in height?
  22. OK, I have a problem here that is bugging me to death. I have an original Monogram square bodied S10 kit from back in the day, molded in white styrene. I know for a fact that I did Duplicolor primer and paint. I have tried soaking this thing for two weeks a piece in both degreaser and brake fluid. The top layer of paint is just barely starting to bubble. So, here's the deal. I have kept it sealed in a container just small enough for all the parts with the lid sealed. This is the second kit I have done this way. The first one just melted Krylon off with degreaser. Do I need to remove the lid on this Duplicolor painted kit and let it ventilate?
  23. So those are the guys whose installs I had to clean up when I worked for Directv. That explains a lot! Nice job on this one.
