  1. How about this guy. Race trailer only from the van and trailer combo. $60 http://cgi.ebay.com/Race-Car-Trailer-1-25th-scale-/270732693806?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f08ed112e And moster truck tires for $25 http://cgi.ebay.com/Bigfoot-Monster-Truck-Tires-/270732697678?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f08ed204e ebay is fun...er funny. I can get those trailers for $10-15 at any model show or geez even on EBAY.
  2. I'm 27 and I still have tons of Hotwheels and Legos and still watch Arthur on PBS. That's really neat and very creative. I'm sure it's just temporary but are you planning on adding anymore to it?
  3. That's awesome. Something I would have never thought of to build.
  4. I really like this. Taking model kits and showing them off exactly for what they are plastic models. I was thinking about doing something similar with a junkyard dio.
  5. My stepdad used to build models back in the day and when I get kits he always takes a look at them. He came over today and I showed him the Model King Racers Wedge and Trailer parts pack. He held it for a second and looked at the racers wedge and said: "This is cool, I wish they sold this {the wedge) separately back when I was building instead of having to get that ratty dual axle chevy. It comes with the trailer too? oh man. I built the camper model it had 69 chevy with it, I think. Weren't the two kits made my different companies MPC and AMT right? They were 1/25th scale that's how I remember. When I bought kits I always got the 1/25th scale ones because the a lot of the 1/24th models were to big to fit on the shelf in my room". I was wowed by the fact that he remembered the original kits. Then he told me why every single truck kit I own wouldn't work for the wedge, lol. His and his brothers models are still stored in Oregon in a barn on his parents property and he told me next time he makes a trip up there he will get them for me. I can't wait to see them. I figure a few more trips to my house and he will probably get the urge to build something himself. He has already offered to help me build a display case.
  6. LOL, one of these was still being answered last month. Anyway.... My wanted car as I have answered the same every time is (drum roll please) a 89 325IS BMW. It's the middle of the road between the regular 3 and the M3. Just a detuned version of an M3. I know many companies make E30 3-series BMW's but NOBODY makes the "IS" in any sort of accurate form and none with a detailed engine. outside of that I would like to see... Checker (any) Reliant Robin and many more...
  7. I saw the masking tape window net too. Yoy can also make them out of thin ribbon (which looks very realistic). It's just a weave pattern and a if you use ribbon a little dab of glue or little piece of double sided tape to hold it together where the pieces meet.
  8. I know it isn't from ebay but their is a guy on my local craigslist trying to sell a partial kit 1/12th scale Monogram Camaro for $200. Guess he didn't check Ebay for comparison since you can get the kit NIB for less than half the price. http://stlouis.craigslist.org/clt/2298486107.html
  9. Not the best video but here it is. It's pretty neat to watch and the people have a lot of fun. It's a great way to spend an afternoon if you can find a club in your area. You can go watch and I garantte by the end of the day someone, or several, will try and strap some guns on you and try and get you to do it.
  10. If I had those parts they would be selling for less than 25% of what that guy wants. The sad part is that guy is probably one of those guys that if the item doesn't sell he just throws it away. Then it is lost forever and the people that just wanted a fair price on the item will never see it again.
  11. My mom collects Pez and used to collect Beanie Babies. I know she has caught people doing exactly what you described. I don't know how prevalent it is on Ebay as a whole but I know with many of the collector items on ebay it is prevalent. I think that is partially why ebay started hiding bidder info from other bidders. Ebay doesn't care if someone is artificially driving up prices because if the item sells for more Ebay makes more money.
  12. My favorite model is the Auto Art BMW E30 M3 in 1/18th scale. It's the replica of my first car. I don't own it though because for $125 it should have a detailed engine to go along with the Highly Detailed interior and everything.
  13. I know why many didn't buy the revell engines. They were all chrome. Most model builders don't want an all chrome engine and most builders don't know how to strip chrome. Some of the other parts packs I know are fairly sought after but I think the biggest reason we don't see them is the cost of them. Very few builders outside the hardcore guys would see value in them. Not every builder scratch builds and not every modeler wants to pay 5 - 10 dollars for just an engine or other accessories. Granted I would really like to get my hands on a couple of those.
  14. Nobody will ever know how many model builders are in an area. Clubs are a small very very small minority of model builders. This forum is only a small minority of model builders. Their is not real hobby shop in my area and I thought I was basically the only one building in my entire area of well over 100,000 but after some craigslist posts and a few flea markets. I have met at least 100 active modelers and found out about a hobby shop I didn't even know existed that is only 15 minutes from my house. Seriously guys you can say their are only x small number in your area but I bet if you actually looked hard you will find more than you think. Every time I go to Hobby Lobby I find the model kit isle hard to walk through because there are people buying kits or at least looking. If you are in an area where their is no direct access to models you will find less builders though. The internet doesn't bring in new builders and every time a shop closes that closes off an area to new builders. When I worked at Mark Twain Hobby I would read the insider magazines and they would say for every X number of items sold their were x number of hobbyist that wouldn't buy one. That is the best formula for trying to find a number of hobbyist. Lets just say for an individual model kit Revell makes 50,000 kits to release in the US if 1 in 5 model builders bought one that would mean their are approximately 250,000 modelers. I will be honest though I bet the ratio is more than 1 in 5. I mean can anyone here name a kit that 1 in 5 of us on this forum all bought new from a retail establishment. If Revell could make models that 1 in 5 modelers bought they would be pumping out kits hand over fist. -As for the club thing that has popped up I have a great example of how few people actually join clubs. My stepdad does Cowboy Action Shooting and he has been doing it for over 15 years. He has NEVER been a part of any club but he shoots at 4 different ranges/clubs. One of the clubs he shoots at has only 17 members but gets on an average summer weekend over 150 non member entrants and on some weekends will draw over 250 shooters. Thats a ratio of close to 1 in 10 even in the winter the club will draw 75-100 non member shooters. All of that is in a setting where you have to have others to participate. If the ratio for dressing up like a cowboy and shooting at metal targets with a bunch of other guys dressed up like cowboys and shooting at metal targets is right at 1 in 10 I bet the ratio for a solitary hobby in which you don't need anyone else or even a outside place to do it is somewhere close to 100 times that if not more. Remember building models is a solitary experience and the vast majority of builders keep it that way their entire lives. I had a race shop owner say this to me about dirt track racing and I think it applies here very well "Their are more racers than you think but less than you hope for"
  15. That Bronco is nuts. Great job on all of them.
  16. Eric I think you did great on those early 60's kits. I just got a couple built up versions of that kit (shown a few posts up). Seeing old kits like that in such good condition always makes me wonder the history behind them.
  17. cool. any pictures of the model you entered?
  18. That's awesome. I was actually thinking about how cool it would be to get everyone to sign one. --- Thanks everyone. 6 of 14 named so far.
  19. I opened the kit and it doesn't say anywhere on the instruction sheet or on the box, at least the box and instruction sheet I have.
  20. I just picked up the Dealers Choice racers wedge/camper kit and was wondering who the people on the front of the box are. I would assume they are model dealers/shop owners. 3 - Model Empire 4 - Dennis Krahn, Model Express 8 - Dave Burkett 12 - Dave Evans, Manager, Wheels & Wings, Toronto 13 - Don, Wheels & Wings Hobbies, Toronto 14 - Tom Carter, Spotlight Hobbies
  21. Great find. I can never find anything at the thrift/charity stores near me. --- I picked up the 32 Ford "Vicky" Jalopy race car and the 36 Chevy Modified today. Got them in trade.
  22. Just saw those. they are great. Very good inspiration.
  23. I say talk to her. I don't know your personal life at all but sometimes when you are working on a goal like getting your masters and a house your top priority should be just that. Having hobbies is great but you have to know when to cut back and your model collection isn't going anywhere. I think what you are asking for is funny but at the same time I can understand where she is coming from. I lost my job over two years ago and even though I just got my first full time job since then I am still only making 15% of what I was making then. I had to sacrifice several of my hobbies including racing something I have been doing since I was a kid. I still have a car and trailer sitting at my parents house, but I know starting racing again right now will cost more than my household can afford and while it kills me every Friday night to hear the local track and see my friend post up their finishes on Facebook I know I am doing the right thing, It sucks hardcore but it is the right thing to do. Perhaps maybe you could cut back on one of your two more expensive hobbies (models cars and RC racing) I know both of those can require monetary commitment more often than biking.
  24. What do you consider serious? Their are some serious builders that only build one or two models a year and their are some build for fun guys that build 2-3 a month. Honestly you will never know. Can't really go by how many kits are sold because some guys buy cases upon cases and not every modeler buys one of everything. So you can't count those numbers.
