  1. Amazing how well those wheels set it off. Very astute choice.
  2. Reminds me of the old business axiom: "Fast • Good • Cheap, you can pick two." My guess they picked fast & cheap.
  3. I got the airbrush fired up and had a few evenings this week to eke out some production so my first effort went to the engine. I've been dying to see how this shapes up. Still have to determine if I want to embellish it more. The interior worked out okay but I'm pretty rusty on my detailing. Will need to touch it up a tad. I tested an oil based wash on the foot pad which turned out miserably. It won't be seen but now I know to abandon that technique. Some color on the body, letting it sit before buffing. Roof still needs paint and the dash to be detailed. Here's the drive arm with mesh added and painted. There'll be a little more detailing but not much.
  4. Opened up the paper at lunch and saw your sparkling mug, luckily it wasn't a heavy lunch . I don't know how they latched onto you, but it couldn't have been a nicer article about one of areas best hobby representatives. Congrats, Junior.
  5. I've enjoyed success with detail cutting using the scissor from a Swiss Army Knife.
  6. For as many people who condemn this kit, a lot of them seem to own it. This may be the reason why. It's just good enough for modelers to know it can be built up nicely with a little effort. This is the second one I've seen built well and is the best one I've seen. Love the engine detail. I know you applied yourself there too. Lovely work.
  7. Any auctioneer will tell you that bidding generates interest. I'm one of the guys who sits quiet till the end, then throws in my max bid. If I didn't get it, then it was more than i would have been willing to pay. Other times I get it cheap. But true or not, I feel like I'm keeping my own price down by not generating attention getting action.
  8. Superb Curt. That first shot could've qualified for "Real or Model?"
  9. Gutsy! A bold project but you pulled it off. How can ya not love a concept custom?
  10. Reminds me of the famous "buried Belvedere." Other than rusting it a lot more discriminately, as you've already noted, I'd say your technique is fabulous.
  11. All Time Races run but never had a win 1) JD McDuffie, 653 [never finished a race on the lead lap] 2) Buddy Arrington, 563 [some have 560] 3) Neil Castles, 498 [some have 501] 4) Dave Blaney 466* 5) Jimmy Means, 455 6) Cecil Gordon, 449 7) G.C. 12. I know. Rats. That was neat though.
  13. Skip, Rain, Go. I saw them several years ago and I can be a tad critical as are other Beatles fans who consider their music a bit sacred, but I was not disappointed. I see there's more than one touring cast now but the original was clearly deeply concerned with authenticity.
  14. Don't change it Eric, I love it! Put Halibrands on it and run with it. Make it an awesome, diesel punk, Cannonball retro-future racer.
  15. Can anybody explain Mr. & Mrs. Tom Hanks sitting elbow to elbow with the honorees and getting his face on lots of cutaways? I assumed, maybe he was producing the gala but his name was not on the credits.
  16. I hear ya. Sorry for your loss Nick. My mom's passing last October pretty much put an end to my 2013 entry. No biggie, it'll just get finished up another day. As far as this year's Torino, body work is done and everything's been primed. Some touch up body work needed but nothing worth posting pictures of at this time.
  17. Very well thought out and nicely excecuted. Beautiful phantom.
  18. I think it would be just as appealing kept original Skip. Looks like it would need a lot of detailing to make it sing as a model, but an awesome throwback as is.
  19. Super! This is the money shot. I love the way the light falls across the car and highlights the character lines. This is the color that specifically influenced the color of my motorcycle.
  20. Exactly. Model companies have wised up enough to not trash their molds. If anything made today starts going up in, say 10-years, it will be re-released and tank the collector value.
  21. Less is more.
  22. You're partially right, but I'm not sure it was Buddy Holley's Crickets that John credits. This should sum it up concisely.
  23. Their plane was on the way here to play across the river in Moorhead, MN. The armory was already so full, fire marshals were enforcing the capacity code. So when the word came that the musicians were never going to arrive, promoters quickly grabbed any available local talent that could step up immediately. A local 15-year old and his buddies filled the bill and the show went on under the pall of tragedy. Other music industry folks who were part of the tour had already arrived and saw the kid perform. Based on that night's gig they signed the kid a record contract and he went to record the hits... Take Good Care of My Baby Rubber Ball Night Has A Thousand Eyes Devil or Angel It was Bobby Vee. An early member of his band, making his way across northern MN from his hometown of Hibbing, MN was an unknown Bob Dylan. So the domino effect of impact on the music word transcended beyond the plane crash.
  24. Are you sure you want they guy who drives (and apparently sleeps in) that van to be spotting your daughter in Phy Ed? There's nothing more rewarding than building from memory. You did a nice job and it's good to see it's cueing fond memories from your old friends.
  25. 5-minutes and done. Why dally? (Brutal though, use care).
